I would have liked to have given this a 4 star review, however they were severely understaffed which meant one side of the room was one course ahead of the other side of the room. Considering this was prebooked, with extra staff requested when booking, it meant that the hosts weren't able to relax and chat as they should of, as they spent the majority of the time helping the poor girls who were rushed off their feet trying to serve 60 people as fast as they could. As first impressions go, it could have been better. Given the circumstances, having all the friends and family come together from near and far, I would have liked to see the hosts be able to relax and enjoy themselves more.

A lovely place Be…read moreaware: Marker on map is way off (at the time I wrote this at least - Park is at the Balloch Castle in Balloch) We walked around Balloch for a while until we started walking along the Loch. It's a nice, pretty short trail leading along the Loch or through the woods. Shortly after you'll find yourself on a huge lawn in front of the Balloch Castle. There are several trails around this area to choose from. The big lawn is really a paradise for humans and pets as well. Even though it was a lovely summer day it never felt crowded and everybody had enough space to do whatever they liked. A good place to let your doggy run free. It offers lots of nice picnic spots with nice views. The Castle itself was partly under construction at the time. The lakeside right at Balloch feels more crowded, be sure to walk just a wee bit further to this park for more space and more views.

The Aberfoyle/Dukes Pass/Loch Katrine loop we tackled was a beautiful, scenic route and any difficult climbs paid off in the abundance of awe-inducing views as we came soaring back down. Loch Katrine was a definite highlight for me. She's a beauty and well-worth the visit whether you're planning on biking, walking or taking a trip on the flagship Sir Walter Scott steamship which we were lucky enough to catch sight of. Cyclists, this whole area in general is just great and this route has been my favourite so far. The hills are tough but coming down them is genuinely breath-taking. I definitely want to return to Aberfoyle again and do all kinds of lovely touristy things. Visiting Loch Katrine will definitely be one of them.

This is considered to be an easy long-distance route. But…read morethat's all going to depend on your resources and the weather. Walking with everything on your back is tough to manage but exhilarating. And the landscape is beautiful. The Great Glen Way is a route that goes along The Caledonian Canal from Fort William to Inverness. It's long and people do it in 5 days but I'd say that would be pretty tough going. With all the clobber if you are camping, it's tough going. I'd say you need to be able to be flexible because the weather is temperamental. You need enough money to stay in hostels or B and Bs whether you want to or not. Lots of lovely things to see along the way. If you donate £6 to British Waterways, you can camp at the locks along the way. There are a few of them and the loos and showers come in very handy indeed when it's raining all day long. Dry rooms with driers that cost £3 for 30 mins and work very efficiently. I'm now wiser by doing this walk. And I am considering doing another long distance walk already.

First-Hand Experience: I've only seen Stirling play once, at their new home stadium, and I really wasn't too impressed. It was a boring 0-0 draw, and the place wasn't full. The fans I met were really nice though, so I'm not going to give them lower than a 3. Still, my first hand experience of this club didn't leave me feeling moved. Just a typical small Scottish club and I wish them all the best. I do like their kits. They were founded as recently as 1945 in the rubble of King's Park FC. Their Forthbank Stadium replaced the Annfield Stadium which was abandoned in 1993. Their manager Stuart McLaren is Steve's sexier brother. They beat Rangers in 2012, but have never really won anything, and if it wasn't for their cute badge and their nice white-with-red-trim kits, I might have only given them a 2.

I had some McCoys and felt sorry for the one poor staff member trying to serve everyone. There were mars bars, teas and Bovrils as well as burgers and juices available. Ample parking for home and away fans, a large number of the home stand is reserved for season ticket holders. Reasonably sheltered main home and away stands (all seated) with some classic standing only areas at both goal ends. A pretty standard Scottish football ground with no clear standout features.

So I have been to or driven through Crieff countless times and had no idea that Drummond Castle…read moreGardens was close by. My wife and friends and I were part of a group visit and there couldn't have been a nicer place. The approach to the castle is a really long canopied drive with views of a loch and Perthshire countryside. By the time you arrive to the castle, you already feel like you've stepped back in time. As stated in the name, you have access only to the Gardens and not to the actual castle itself. This of no consequence as you can easily get lost in the size and intricacies of the gardens for at least a couple of hours. There are statues, sculptured hedges (is that an accurate term?), plenty of flowers (obviously), a small loch, and even some peacocks wandering around... what more could you ask for? I would highly recommend the gardens as part of a day trip to Crieff. And as it is only a couple of miles from the town centre, there are plenty of cafes and shops nearby.

Most of these gardens are now downsized or just grass, but Drummond's is still there and is fantastic. It's beautiful, the colours. All year. It is only open April to October though. The only downside is that there is not a cafe there from which to enjoy the view. Entrance is about 4 quid. The castle is not open to the public except on one weekend a year.

Perhaps the Piers is by no means special. You most probably won't go out of your way to see it. Of…read morecourse, if you do happen to stumble across this area, a pleasant walk by the river shalln't go a miss. But for me, I hold some precious memories of the Piers, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. We often found some interesting things here and one visit even lead to an inspired song-writing session with my band. Now, we always sing of The Piers! The Piers resides by Corton Vale prison and alongside the River Forth. If you follow the trails, you encounter some great views and brilliant photo opportunities. It's usually very quiet and perfect for some off-road cycling or some writing or some reflecting outdoors. At the start of the Piers trail, there's a nesting place for those who frequent the area for fishing. We enjoyed watching this transform over time, and now it's a fully-fledged den with a tin rooftop. Kudos to whoever built that thing! There also used to be a little hut at the top of some stairs near the fishing area, but this was burnt down. Thus, sending our imaginations into overdrive! In fact, every time we visit the Piers, there's something to see, even if it's just the water and its ever-varying levels. It's a beautiful place to walk and discover. So, in short, of course, it's a river and some land. But for me, it was mystery; a place to go full of gin at midnight, with a guitar and accompanying voices; a place to have morning tea, cups in hands; a place to be. If all you have is a walk, then I'm sure it'll be a good one.

This is a very easy, very rewarding wee hike right outside Stirling. It's real simple. Just drive…read moreinto the town centre (of sorts) of Menstrie, right on the A91. Across from the Spar there's a big open green, at the back of which you'll see a Scouts Hall. Park somewhere near there. Follow the path to the left of the Hall. You'll see a sign that helpfully says "Path," pointing to a cement staircase curving up to the right. The first part of the climb is a bit blah, but once you get past the teensy dirt path and the weird abandoned hobo pit (don't be scared...it's all ancient rusty cans) and over the crest of the hill, you'll be rewarded with magnificent views. There are approximately 72,004 sheep to terrify you with their horns, who will promptly skitter away if you come within ten feet of them. The last little stretch to the top is somewhat steep, but definitely do-able. We were all in sneakers (or trainers, if you will) and during our one hour hike to the ascent we were lapped by a man who jogged to the top and back in under 30 minutes. If a guy can do it every day on his lunch break, then so can you. It's a mostly beautiful amble with spectacular views of the William Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle once you reach the top. Well worth a visit and definitely earns a trip to the pub afterwards.
