This was a great hotel - part of which was actually part of a reconstructed old castle. The main reception area and dining rooms were in the oldest part of the old castle. The bulk of the rooms were in a newer section of the hotel that had been constructed to complement the old castle. Despite being a newer addition, it looked like it was part of the old castle. Beautiful grounds and walking paths.
The rooms were clean and comfortable but it was hard to get the room dark. There were too many light sources (green LED above door, defunct mini bar, alarm clock on desk). The was also a defunct mini bar / refrigerator that was still illuminated.
For Americans touring Ireland, it's important to mention that most hotels don't have air conditioning and that you need to open the windows in order to moderate the temperature. At this hotel, in a nice quiet suburban location, that wasn't a problem. But for Americans traveling in Scotland or Ireland, please be forewarned about the lack of air conditioning.
The hotel had a great bar off of the main lobby and beautiful dining rooms with views of the grounds.
We stayed at this hotel as part of a 15-day tour of Ireland and Scotland with CIE Tours. This hotel was selected by CIE and was one of 9 hotels we stayed in during our 2-week tour. We had 31 people in our group and typically occupied 16 rooms at each hotel we visited. Each hotel provided a full buffet breakfast every morning and typically we had dinner at least once at each hotel. We were at this hotel for 2 nights.
We had 1 dinner and 2 breakfasts at the hotel. The breakfast buffet was a traditional Irish breakfast (eggs, ham, sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms and a nice assortment of pastries and cereal). read more
