I have been visiting Kim Wang supermarket on and off for about 10 years now, so I've been there at least 50 times and have always been impressed. The supermarket is divided into distinct sections that once you get to know the layout it is a great place for Asian groceries.
At the front of the store, just as you enter is the fresh veg section; with Bok choy, choy sum, Chinese broccoli, garlic, spring onions and the list goes on. Asian veg and fresh herbs and mushrooms.
There is a butcher section where you can get really well cut pork ribs, mince and fillet or shoulder depending on what you want to make. They also have eggs by packs of 3 dozen or so.
There are freezers for dumplings, fish and all sorts of steamed buns and shallot cakes. Fridges have soy milk, tofu, fresh Hokkien and rice noodles, fish cakes, kimchi, soy beans and more.
There is a huge selection of Thai, Indian, Malaysian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and probably much that I don't know about. Pastes, noodles, seaweeds, powders, herbs and spices and everything for an Asian feast.
The last isle has knives, woks, cleaning products, serving bowls and more kitchen utensils. There is a tea isle and a sweets section and my favorite - the ramen section where you'll find top brands of packet noodles. Check the website www.ramenrater.com and get tips on what the best of the year are.
Kim Wang stock a great brand of instant laksa noodles in there or if you're feeling up to it, get hogans laksa paste and some maggi coconut milk powder, noodles, tofu etc and make it yourself. Feeling more ambitious? They have the ingredients to make your laksa and curry pastes from scratch.
Whatever your skill level with Asian cooking, Kim Wang has you covered. read more
