So we found ourselves with a kid free week, and UP Michigan was on our list to revisit…read more We lucked out booking this - we missed the storms, there was a little rain, and Faith O. Kayaked backwards the entire trip, keeping the group moving and calling out the geology and history (and she got jokes). You get on a boat, and they take you out - and you get in the kayak on the rack on the boat and they guide you out. Super easy. PFDs and sea skirts are provided and required! We stayed dry. Also - tandem kayaks! Less nimble than recreational kayaks, but also more stable. Assuming your partner doesn't lean over the edge. It's a nice trip! (When the wildfires aren't obstructing the views/air)

Best and most convenient/organized kayak tour, ever! We were impressed with the knowledge,…read moreprofessionalism and friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness, comfort and the cool design of the boat. Another cool thing was how seamless they launched us from the boat into our kayaks. None of us got the slightest bit wet at any part of the tour. We had fun learning about the history of Lake Superior and the geology of the pictured rocks (I promise, it was fascinating!). AJ, our kayak guide, his name was AJ. AJ had a great sense of humor and kept us laughing. Note: I believe AJ was in a competition with the other guides (who were not nearly as awesome as AJ) I hope he gets extra credit for the number of times AJ appears in one review of AJ. We booked the Ultimate Kayak tour, it was about an hour boat ride out to the rocks, about a 3 hour kayak experience and another hour back. Make sure you bring your sunscreen, even if the temp is cool. There is a restroom onboard the boat, guides are able to radio the boat (as it follows the kayak groups) if someone needs to use the bathroom or needs to return to the boat for any reason. Also, it was so nice to see so much of the rocks and for the length of the kayaking it was one way, we never had to turn around and paddle back upstream. So smart! We highly recommend this tour!

Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disorganized and unprofessional from the moment I arrived. The building was locked, no guide or management staff were present, there was no organized check-in process, and there was absolutely no communication regarding what was happening. Multiple guests were left outside confused and attempting to determine whether the tour was even operating. Company-associated staff eventually arrived but provided no meaningful information until directly prompted. At that point, they stated they were only shuttle drivers and that they had to "figure out what was going on" after the scheduled rendezvous time had already passed. At no point within the first 20 minutes of our rendezvous was there was any clear communication, leadership, organization, or professionalism demonstrated by the company. Considering they're responsible for guiding customers onto Lake Superior, I no longer felt comfortable or safe participating in the excursion and chose not to proceed with 10 minutes remaining until the a scheduled launch time. I attempted to resolve this directly via email since management wasn't present during working hours and present staff couldn't provide a direct way to contact management; however, they refused to issue a refund. The owner instead responded publicly to a review in a defensive manner while claiming an emergency situation had occurred. He even blamed my inability to adapt over his employees vague and unprofessional verbal responses and despite three shuttle drivers being present and not shuttling us to our launch. The issue is the complete lack of communication, organization, professionalism, and reasonable resolution afterward.

They gave us very clear instructions of where to go and where not to go. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They brought a wagon up to our car to load with our stuff and brought the wagon back upon our arrival. They made the process very easy! This was such an amazing experience for us to explore Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks.

My family rented from this company a few years ago and had a great experience--friendly staff,…read morebeautiful lake, smooth process. That's why we came back. But this time? The owner (Bryan) ruined everything. Right when we got there, our group (we're all Asian) was greeted with: "Can you guys speak English?" Yeah. That was the first thing out of his mouth. It was rude, racist, and unnecessary. We were stunned but tried to brush it off to enjoy the day. Fast forward, while trying to close the boat door using my foot (kicking not even forcefully--I just didn't know how the mechanism worked), he immediately snapped and shouted: "Kick my boat again and I'll kick your ass." Mind you, I'm 16. That's an adult man threatening a minor--over a door. No explanation, no patience. Just straight-up aggression. Like I'm sorry I that I ever kicked the door but there is still no justification in yelling at a MINOR that doesn't go on daily pontoon rides and suddenly know how everything works. After that, he told us to "take a picture of your props." We were all confused--props? Like stage props? Personal belongings? The property? Even my dad, who's a trained seaman (of the Philippines so of course their training had to be different), had no idea what he meant. Turns out he meant the propeller--but instead of explaining, he started yelling "PROPELLER!" like we were supposed to automatically understand his vague boat lingo. We're not boat people. We came to enjoy the lake, not operate a ship. The way he barked at us made everything stressful and awkward. And then--after everything he said and did--he had the nerve to ask if we had any leftover food. Sir... you just threatened me, disrespected my group, and yelled at us like we were idiots... and now you want a snack? Absolutely not. Hell no. Plus, who asks strangers for leftovers? Since you took our money, you definitely have enough for happy meal at Mcdonald's. Absolutely bull-... behavior. At that point, all I could do was laugh. Not because it was funny, but because it felt like a bad comedy sketch. The whole thing was ridiculous. The boat ride was beautiful. The other staff were professional and kind. But the owner's behavior was racist, threatening, condescending, and completely unprofessional. We won't return while he's in charge. If you care about basic human respect--go anywhere else. P.S. we were lucky enough to not get served by Ellen, which judging by the reviews, also has a bad attitude. Beware.

I reserved my experience on their website and received a personal confirmation from Raya via text message in less than 15 minutes. Raya answered all my questions in advance of the event quickly and with great detail. Yooper Yachts was the only company I found that allowed for single kayaks, as I was booking alone and didn't want to be paired with a stranger. My tour was run by Rick and Bob (father/son team) were super friendly and helpful. My group was 7 total kayakers (two tandem kayaks and three singles). We all met at the meet point, and after a short drive and set of instructions, we were in the water. The tour was fantastic. Rick provided a personal touch...learning everyone's names and getting to know them and providing interesting stories about the rock formations and area insights. Rick and Bob could not be nicer and more genuine. They gave us the freedom to roam and explore a bit on our own but were always close by if we needed them. They provided all of the required equipment, which was in great shape. They also had Dramamine available if we needed it. Honestly this is the best experience I could have hoped for in a tour of Pictured Rocks. You can really count on Yooper Yachts, they are very dependable and are a fun outfit!
