For someone seeking mental health support, two weeks is not a minor inconvenience. It can feel like an eternity. What troubles me most is the question this raises: if a facility cannot follow well-established federal disability law, one of the most basic legal protections afforded to people with disabilities, what confidence can patients have that other standards of care are being upheld? A mental health facility should be a place of safety, dignity, and compassion. What I experienced was the opposite. Although Redpoint presents itself as treating both mental health and substance use, my experience was that much of the curriculum and treatment approach felt heavily centered around substance use. As someone dealing with mental health concerns rather than substance use, I often felt that the programming was not well aligned with what I actually needed. What was particularly disappointing was reaching a point where I needed additional support and being told that residential treatment was the appropriate level of care, despite being unable to pursue residential at this time. Rather than feeling supported in finding an alternative level of care that addressed my mental health needs, I felt abandoned by a program and community I had trusted. Mental health treatment needs to recognize that not every person struggling is struggling with substance use. The distinction matters, and treatment should feel individualized rather than built primarily around one population. Based on my experience, I would encourage someone seeking treatment solely for mental health to carefully consider whether Redpoint's approach and curriculum are actually suited to their needs before enrolling.
