My 25 year old cedar fence was damaged in a recent storm and had to be replaced. After doing quite a bit of research to find the right contractor I settled on Kimberly Fence to replace my old fence based on their reputation, quality of materials they use and their competitive pricing. Relative to their reputation, this company was rated very well in Google (4.5 avg rating based on 212 reviews), Houzz (top ten best fence contractors metro Detroit) and Expertise.com (top 5 best fence contractors in metro Detroit). The quote process was quite good where their sales manager came to my house and did a thorough site inspection and listened to my desires for the new fence offering up various alternatives at different cost points/materials which I truly appreciated. During this phase, the salesman was very friendly and professional and not pushy in the least and vary patient with the many questions I had. The electronic detailed quote that followed had dimensioned diagrams for the installation (so you know exactly what is being quoted) and stepped up options so the customer can tailor the work to meet his/her own desires. After settling on Kimberly and the work I wanted done a final detailed contract was sent to me via their website for electronic signature with the ability to keep this file on my computer for future reference/use which I truly like over the old paper copy approach which invariably leads to misplacing the signed contract over time. Once the project started, The works was done over two days by their crew (Scott and John) where day 1 they tore out and hauled away the old fence and installed the new fence posts and day 2 they installed the new fence. The process they use was quite efficient where the panels. where possible, are custom preassembled at their shop before arrival allowing quicker installation and where necessary, they custom build on site the portions that are tailored to the terrain (in my case going over an irregular burm). Materials are top shelf which in my case was kiln dried 3/4" cedar Fence planks, 2X4 cedar framing boards, and most importantly galvanized steel posts by Postmaster (No more rotted posts over time - yay!!!). Just as importantly, the crew, Scott and John, were super friendly and professional answering all my questions and ensuring I was happy with the project as it progressed. I could not have been happier with the project, the crew, and the end result. From beginning to end it was a delight working with these guys where the end product exceeded my expectations. If you have a fence project in metro Detroit than this is definately a company you should consider for the project as I have no issues whatsoever in endorsing them based on the work they did for me. That sure looks like a drawing from xxxx we'd need to see the yard, which we'll do if you want to meet and we only do cedar, no treated, xxxx will do treated, we are going to be more than him, as we have a building and give a 5 year labor warranty, as opposed to a guy in a pickup truck....do you want an estimator to reach out to schedule a visit? Kimberly Fence is an old-fashioned kind of company, and I mean that in a good way. Awesome customer service. I grew up in a small-town, and it felt like that; someone I knew and could talk to whenever I needed to. I was in touch with someone the entire time -- from quote, to scheduling, to day-to-day with the install. Their website is clear and the quote (from in-person visit) nearly matched the website quote. That's really important to me. The install didn't go off without a hitch -- but I'm still giving a 5 star review anyway. The on-site team: Joe, Sean (sorry if I'm misspelling it!), and Keith were really great. Professional, courtesy, even when I pointed out miscommunications. At first, they put in the wrong fence height for one side (to be fair, the drawing was a little confusing, always double check with ANY contractor!) and rectified it with just kindness and understanding. They were also very thoughtful and considerate, going above and beyond, like helping my older neighbor cut down a small 3 ft shrub that was in the way and hauling it out for her. Their PM was in touch every day with updates (they installed the same week as a HUGE storm) and overall, I'd highlight recommend them. The fence also looks so so so good. $2500 for a gate over our driveway in 2017. They installed the fence backwards, and left a 5-6 inch gap between another fence. They eventually reinstalled the gate, leaving holes in the driveway that we needed to get refilled, and screw holes in the fence itself that needed capping. Metal shavings all over the driveway. The service tech, Evan, was very nice. The owner that I dealt with via email, was argumentative and rude. I have receipts. Here I am, 5 years later, with a gate that doesn't shut correctly- and I would rather call someone else AND PAY for someone to fix it. Don't use this company. read more

I'm very happy with these guys. We got a quote as soon as they were available near the end of April during COVID season. The guy was masked up and very helpful in answering all my questions. The quote came in about 20% higher than what I got at Home Depot but I was sold by their steel posts. They don't use wooden post, they use steel which is great in Royal Oak where we have an extremely high water table. Our old fence rotted away but I think this one will last for decades. The steel is covered by cedar so it still looks really nice. It took about 8 weeks for the install to begin since they were backed up and slammed after taking time off for covid. The first day they tore out my old fence and hauled everything away. They also installed the steel posts. It all took about 6 hours. They put up a temporary fence and left the yard nice and clean. Two days later they installed the cedar panels and covered the steel post. Took about six hours again. We will recommend Kimberly Fence to anyone who asks! read more

Hired Kimberly to remove an old wooden privacy fence and replace with chain link. They subcontracted out the work to an unknown company named Jolly Fence that doesn't even show up on Google and they didn't tell me they were going to subcontract out the work. The guy gave his business card to my neighbor. It said David "Jolly" Rodger on it with the name of the business as Jolly Fence. So, instead of removing the old fence posts from the ground, they simply cut the posts level to the ground with a reciprocating saw, then left the saw blades in my lawn, threw garbage in my yard waste bin (clearly labeled as yard waste only), didn't even install my double gate and tried to collect final payment on the invoice. I called Kimberly and the guy was like "oh, we didn't know he didn't install your gate." hmmmm wonder how that happens, but he swears he didn't subcontract out the work. Then they left a 2" gap in one of the corners, probably because they didn't dig up the old fence posts and therefore didn't have room to put the new one where the old one was, and when I called them to fix it, their solution was to just weld another fence post in between two the existing fence posts where the gap was. That middle fence is not even in the ground, it looks like someone just glued an extra post to it. When I told them how terrible it looks, they just said they couldn't do anything else. Wish I had read the one-star reviews on Google first before hiring this company and seen how unprofessional their replies are to the bad reviews. The people at this company act like teenagers. I tried to leave a review on Google and it got censored from public view, even though it was a calm, honest review. Apparently the company still saw it though, and Paul sent me a message through their online portal where they give quotes simply saying "Nice garbage can" because I put up a picture of where they threw garbage in my yard waste bin. He said we're not interested in doing your fence, and that was the end of the call. As the female owner of a small family owned fence company I try to support small business, so today I send my guys to #kimberlyfence to purchase some fence supply's only to be given less then quality product( it's not uncommon for me to dig thru panels to find the nicer pickets) when I brought to the Owners attention his response you should go to Home Depot or Lowe's? The collection of the store is very small, but what is unacceptable is their POOR service. Just as some the other reviews stated it is a very rude environment while simple questions were asked about pricing and options, no answers were given and we felt insulted. We were in the store for 5 minutes, asked one or two questions, the guy we talked to was in grey shirt no facial hair(I didn't bother to get his name), he started to get impatient, rude, didn't provide any information about fence - nor anything useful, he rolled his eyes in front of us. Just walked in to inquire about 500+ linear feet of a custom fence. I was trying to provide info to the questions I was asking and once I did he (paul) became frustrated with me because I asked for availability and pricing. I literally was inside the building all of 4 minutes in total. Paul then proceeded act like his panties were in bunch and threw his arms up like a little B**ch and walked away. I don't understand how people sitting behind a desk providing the simplest of services can be act this way. I hate to assume this,but it's has to be the owners fault for allowing his employees to act like this towards customer. Kimberly Fence is clearly not a customer service based company. They do not work with adjoining homeowners nor make sure that they are complying with city ordinances. Our neighbors had them cut down part of our gate that was grandfathered in per our city. They did not check with us or city code prior to destroying it. I would think that as a fencing company before they did work they would make sure both neighbors had authorized anything that crossed property lines and make sure it was okay with city inspectors. We decided to stop in earlier this afternoon as we have been in the market for a new aluminum fence/gate. When we walked in, the 'salesperson' behind the desk didn't even acknowledge us. After finally getting their attention, not only was he hostile, but probably the rudest salesperson I have ever met. Even though we had plot lines drawn and length estimates, he refused to even talk about getting an estimate or getting a consultation scheduled. Instead, he said to just give him our number and he would 'have someone call us.' I haven't ever seen a more B.S. attempt to rush business out the door. They will not be earning our business. Horrible.... Kimberly fence came to take down my old fencing and install a privacy fence, I had them extended the fence to my side door and they promised they could put a gate in. They messed up and did not take in to consideration the objects by the house that would hinder them from putting in the gate. they told me i would have to get the gate installed in the back of the house. What a waste of money.... spent extra to have the fence extended then i can't even put up a GATE!!! What shitty planning on this companies part. The salesperson was rude and will not get our money. The written quote was confusing and when we went in to pay a deposit and sign the contract, the salesperson was rude regarding the explanation. He sat at a desk behind the counter while talking to us, never getting up to even greet us. When we clarified what we wanted and our interpretation of the contract, he stated we were wrong and that he did not care if he got the job- that our $850 job was charity and they do not usually consider jobs under $1200. I would never spend my money at a company who does not know how to treat people. I would also give negative stars if I could. AWFUL customer service and experience. This AWFUL, rude, mean, nasty guy came out to our house and told us we "were lucky that he even came out this far for an estimate." We had fencing done by this company in 2011. We only had half the fence done (we live on a corner lot) and we have advertised this company for YEARS - allowing their sign to be hung on our fence. We called this company again to come out to fence the other half of our yard and to fix a rotted wooden post - that was IMPROPERLY installed due to the cement not being all the way around the wooden post in the ground - causing the wood post to COMPLETELY rot. It's the only post like this - all the other ones are in pristine condition. He basically told us that he takes offense to us saying the post was improperly installed and since the wind storms have been so bad this year, that is the cause. (Except ALL the other properly cemented wooden posts in the ground are perfect). And he said we would have to get in line behind at least 50 other jobs in order to get the one rotted post replaced and to fence the other half of our yard. And they would most likely only replace the rotted post IF their company got the whole job. He then proceeded to quote us more than DOUBLE the amount we were quoted in 2011 for the SAME length/area to be fenced (in 2011 we had three separate quotes - one for the area we currently have fenced, one for the area we don't have fenced yet and then a third one with the prices combined). The guy was such a cocky jerk - he needs some lessons in customer service. Bc he doesn't have any. Condescending, rude, offensive, and nasty. I never want any person like this stepping on my property, let alone doing work on my house. BYE, FELECIA!!! Get a new salesman/person to do quotes.
