My GF and I (shopping for the GF) have been coming to this particular Heroines boutique for several…read moreyears and it never disappoints. The designer is local and so are the fabrics. We were told that all the clothing is made in France and England. I have no reason to suspect otherwise. Assuming this is true then Heroines is a bargain! Perhaps it is my Bronx skepticism kicking-in. The manager/salesperson was outstanding but I can't remember her name. I don't want to say how much we spent, but let's just say we greatly surpassed the US incoming custom's exemption. I guess we'll just need to donate the excess prior to re-entering the homeland...

Dresses, shoes and coats inspired by 1950's vintage style with a modern edge, gorgeous construction and design. Nina helped choose some things that were wonderfully complementary to my body shape stating "it's not about size, but shape". As I'm a few sizes larger in France then the US, this was very helpful to hear. She was a great sales person, spoke beautiful English and was a lot of fun. I adore the jacket I bought and am actually looking forward to colder weather so I can wear it and let the complements roll in.

I was ready to spend much more than the original price of the jeans, but after the aggressive service, I left with an exact exchange and a bad taste in my mouth. Not sure I'll be going back.

I love convertible bags. I found a perfect one here that easily transforms from a shoulder to a cross-body bag and could also be used as a clutch. Since buying it as a birthday gift to myself earlier this year I've used it regularly both at home in London, on the road elsewhere in Europe and it's one of the few things going with me on my upcoming beach holiday. If you're in the market for a new tote of any type, Matières à Reflexion in Le Marais should be on your shortlist of spots to shop.

Everything is really beautiful and stylish -- the necklaces in particular really caught my eye. They're delicate and refined yet still modern and cool in that very Parisienne way. The repurposed leather bags and canvas totes are super cool and unique -- take one home with you and you'll love it forever. This particular stip of the Marais has the best shopping in Paris, as far as I'm concerned. Young, thoughtful and smart designs fill these boutiques with lovely, one-of-a-kind finds that are beautiful and well-made all while remaining incredibly stylish and current. Matières à réflexion rises to the top of this group and I wish there was a way for me to get there more often!

Fast forward a week later, I'm in Paris and I stumble upon the COS store in the Marais. There are two COS stores in Paris but the Marais store carries the full collection. What I like about COS is that they carry many basic colors that you can mix and match. We're talking black, white, and gray. They have casual, business and special occasion attire too. Something for everyone and for every occasion. The styles are v-e-r-y cool with unusual mixed fabrics used together, asymmetric cuts to the skirts, unexpected shapes to the neckline or styling on the clothing. I haven't been this excited about discovering a clothing brand EVER. Needless to say, I tried on many dresses, tops and accessories and came away with a cart full of clothes. Whoopeee! Now I can no longer say I have nothing in my closet to wear. COS has solved my dilemma and given my wardrobe some excitement and fun. As a division of the H&M group (from Sweden), I'm excited to have discovered COS and I hope that I'll find their clothes sometime soon in the USA.

This year, I was poised to find another special purchase. The service here is rather typical boutique French, where you often have to ask to see items, and the dressing room is tightly controlled, meaning the best mirror is outside of the dressing room. I would say that I had a lot more fun shopping last year, when I had a sweet salesgirl helping me, and we bonded over the no-makeup look, and our love for a certain fur jacket that was out of everyone's price range. I shopped during the Soldes, which are the twice yearly national sales periods. So, I was able to get an amazing discount on a bomb-tastic faux fur jacket and a gorgeous scarf, for a "can't leave it behind" price. If you are in the mood, they have an amazing selection of jewelry and accessories.
