Come to Kimos. This is an order. It's good for students (pocket friendly prices), and somewhere nice to bring your parents or a date. It's cheap and the food is pretty decent. It's great value for money; the pizzas and sandwiches are filling and tasty and the mains are huge with lots of spices and flavour. I love the Moroccan atmosphere, they have a rustic feel to the place with one corner filled with bright fabrics and cushions so you can eat in comfort next to a fire, or a more formal side to the restaurant which is slightly more modern in tone.

Doner kebabs are somewhat of an enigma to me. When I'm drunk they seem like the greatest idea ever, but even the smell of one when sober is enough to make me retch. That is except for the doner kebabs that are served in Kimos restaurant (/café, depending on how you look at it). Kimos is popular with both students and locals as it offers tasty Mediterranean food at affordable prices, from sandwiches and burgers to pizzas and speciality lamb and chicken dishes. As I say, one of my personal favourites is their doner kebab which, unlike usual kebab shop kebabs, is filled with good quality meat that doesn't taste like cardboard, leaving you dreading every mouthful before you've even swallowed as well as more than adequately filling accompaniments. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is quick and cheery, resulting in you leaving Kimos with a smile on your face as well as a full and satisfied stomach.

The Kimos branch in Mount Pleasant is an excellent middle-eastern themed restaurant. It is rustic in style, popular with students and has a fine menu that offers great food at reasonable prices. The environment is simple yet effective in design, as the use of dark colours and plain decor gives it a cozy feel. Whether or not you're a fan of middle-eastern cuisine, I command you try some out at no other place than Kimos! The service is warm and welcoming. I've never had any problems with the food and I usually enjoy a kebab or two with all the garnishings. Kimos makes a fabulous dining experience whether alone, with friends and/or family.

As a vegetarian, kebab shops obviously tend to push me to the edges of their menu. But I had decided that I was going to tough it out whatever, even if that meant a meal of fresh naan and salad. With no falafel on the menu, no real cold mezze, and the advertised hummus unavailable, things were not looking good. However, surprisingly, I ended up enjoying my best meal out in a while for the sum of....£2.50! Here is what can happen in place like this - due to kebabs being the main attraction, salad (albeit basic) is complimentary and stewed vegetable 'sauces' to moisten the meat are also priced very cheaply. So my meal was two naan, a lush vegetable stew of mainly aubergine and tomato plus the complimentary salad. The naan was just OK, but still a fresh bread. But the vegetable stew with just a hint of heat - I can hardly think of anything more soothing to digest! A man definitely needs some meals like this to stay in balance. I will definitely be back - I will probably have the same thing on rice next time. Or perhaps there are other vegetarian options ready to serve from the small bain marie, we shall see. The Turkish (or whatever) guys running this place are fairly friendly, and there is a nice balance between a majority Middle Eastern male clientele, but the construction workers, a townie couple, some Chinese guys and myself blended in OK. Food is mainly kebabs, biryanis and I'm not sure what additional takeaway sundries. One final observation - this part of London Road boast six or so businesses that seem strongly Middle Eastern - this place, the adjacent 'Roman' restaurant, Marmaris grocery store across the road, a barber, a dessert café. Watch out for my upcoming reviews of these places.

But Lebanese cuisine is exactly what Alamir on Eastbank Street specialises in, offering its customers a menu full of various exotic Middle Eastern dishes for them to try and hopefully enjoy. The menu there is full of variety as well as good options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike and their prices are generally pretty reasonable. It includes smaller dishes which you can get a few of as well as more substantial main dishes, such as samak billbatata (cod cooked with potatoes in a tomato sauce, very delicious) or various cous cous dishes that are very interesting sounding. The restaurant itself is quite tiny inside but they make good use of the space in there, meaning the atmosphere is cosy rather than cramped, and the staff there are friendly and attentive, ensuring your experience at Alamir is always a pleasant one. A good place to go if you're looking for something a bit different for dinner.

The food is delicious and cheap, with large rich ingredients and it also serves speciality coffee. I have tastes a few dishes there unlike anything Ive tasted before and I eat out A LOT !! An added bonus is that they do corkage so we were able to bring wine and champagne that had been bought for me. The interior is a mix between intimate and modern with an exotic influence and also boasts a Shisha bar upstairs with a balcony. They also do takeaways , so if you ever need high quality food and not a greasy pizza, I recommend ordering. I will eat there again and again.

We arrived at the restaurant at just about noon when it opens. They saw us waiting outside though and let us in and gave us some karak tea! So warm and perfect. We thought that the only tables in the restaurant were downstairs at the entrance but it turns out there is a huge upstairs with carpeted rooms! There is a huge main room which seems to be for the men and then there are several smaller rooms in the family section. We decided to sit in one of the family rooms which is about the size for 2 people and maybe up to 4 if you squeeze in. As usual we started off the meal with some maraq lamb broth soup and salad. The salad dressing and sahawiq are in bottles which is so clever! It works really well to squirt the sahawiq over everything and it wasn't spicy here at all and tasted great with everything. I had also ordered some yogurt salad just in case to mediate any spiciness. For main dishes, we got lamb kebsa and chicken fahsa. I had originally ordered chicken ogda but the Yemeni guy said they couldn't make it in the black pots I think because there are too many bones. I don't like bones in the chicken ogda anyway and so he offered to make chicken fahsa which would fit in the black pot. It was my first time trying chicken fahsa and it was really good. They made it with a tomato base so it actually tasted like the chicken ogda that I like! So perfect. They also make malawah bread here which was awesome and made the meal complete. Another nice surprise is that they make fresh juice! We had fresh lime juice with the meal and it was really good. For dessert, we had some fatta masoob. It's very heavy and we were so full by the time we started to eat it but it was yummy. Hadramout is many times better than Queen of Sheba Restaurant in London and also 1/3 the price! We paid £22 for 2 people for this amazing and perfect lunch at Hadramout. For more information about Yemeni food, please visit here: http://yemenfood.blogspot.com/p/food.html

Hidden away on one of the side streets off wilmslow road, this understated, simple decor eatery was a gem of a find. Arabic food has always registered on my radar perhaps once a month, but this discovery may change all that. The menu is quite expansive and the pricing is extremely economically viable given the huge portions of food on offer. The roast lamb and chicken comes slow cooked with the rice and is nothing short of divine. One portion is easily big enough for two people and no one is gonna complain about food for the next few days it is THAT filling. There's also a host of sides that one can try, the lamb soup has a sharp taste that once engulfed by the palate has a delayed endorphin fuelled chemical reaction (in other words: its mint!) I have therefore declared thursdays as Hadramout day. It's a long menu and I intend to get through it next year! Canny wait.
