I got the garlic mushrooms starter and the moussaka as my main, which was exactly what I needed. The mushroom starter was excellent as it was a super augmented mushroom soup. Steaming hot full pieces of mushrooms bobbing in cream, a great way to warm up quickly. The moussaka was filling and flavorful, with eggplant, minced lamb, potatoes and cheese sauce. They even served the main with a side of perfectly made fries in case you needed more food.

This particular Greek offering is located outside the hustle and bustle of the city centre and thus is more intimate an experience. Forget waht your inhibitions are about the "kebab" and give their Souvlakia Kebabs a whirl. Trust me you won't regret it. I also tried the sea food platter which was delicious and consisted of smoked salmon, mackerel, taramosalata, cocktail prawns, pickled octopus, crab and caviar garnished with lettuce and parsley. Is that delightful or is that delightful. There are just so many mouth watering options this place will have you coming back for more. Even if you are a vegan they can cater for you. I had some of my friend's Mosaka and normally I'm not too pleased with the vegetarian dishes but this one I did fancy. The Mosaka comprises of layered potatoes aubergines and courgettes topped with cheese sauce cooked in individual ceramic dish which gives it a unique and tasty flavor. To add to all this the prices are very reasonable and normally it will set you back less than £20 per person which is fantastic given the generous portions of food you receive. This is one Taverna I will be paying a visit again in the near future, why don't you have a gander good people!!

It's also very family oriented, unsurprising given its origins, and children are given a very warm welcome too. It's definitely authentically Greek, remarkably cheap too and the portions are generous with plentiful choices. It's quite rustic and rough n' ready which adds heaps to its charm too. If our inexplicably dull, humid and surprisingly early summer is getting you down this is certainly a place that'll inject a little Mediterranean sunshine into your life. There's banquets to share and a good range of dishes, all of which look good enough on the menu to take a hopeful punt on. In fairness, they ARE all worth taking a punt on! The bar is as well stocked as any restaurant bar and the wine list is... well... I'm not a wine expert so I wouldn't know. From the look of it, it seems good enough unless you're Oz Clark. The staff are all pleasant and clued up and, on certain nights, they have traditional Greek music and, well, let me just say that, if you're after a quiet romantic night in, avoid this one (ring ahead to find out when it is as I can't remember) as it can get a bit loud. Name issues aside though, The Greek Taverna is a lovely restaurant to dine in and represents a refreshing change from the usual swarm of Indian and Italian restaurants that litter the local area (talk about overkill). The dishes available there are both varied and delicious, with the lamb keftedes being a particularly favourite of mine, as well as the kalamari. The Greek Taverna also does several special offers which are well worth checking out, such as the Early Evening Menu (2 courses for £12.95) and a Sunday menu, both of which represent excellent value for money considering the rich and flavoursome food on offer. The staff there are friendly and attentive also, ensuring that your dining experience at The Greek Taverna is one you will savour, just like their food.

A family run establishment since the 1970s this is one of the best places to eat in the city. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The owner of the restaurant is very much front of house and makes you feel welcome immediately. The food is all fresh cooked to order and served authentic Greek cuisine. The lamb kleftico is to die for. And if you have a sweet too the then I'd recommend the homemade baklava with pistachio ice cream. All the food is prepared on site in the little open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant. You can see the chefs busy cooking away which is great to see. I really like this restaurant because of its authentic Greek cuisine and hospitality. The food is stunning, the service is superb and the location is perfect. I'd happily recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the area and wants authentic Greek cuisine at a reasonable cost

This consists of a choice of 15 courses which include hot and cold starters and char grilled meat dishes, as well as plenty of vegetarian options. Every dish I tried was delicious. It was expertly cooked by the chef and it surpassed my expectations a great deal. The wine list at Romios consists of Greek and Cypriot wines as well as those from the more well known wine growing countries. There are also Greek beers available, but if you're not feeling adventurous you can have a bottle of normal beer such as Budweiser. The service at Romios is excellent. The staff are friendly and happy to explain any dish on the menu if you are not too sure what to order. The meals arrive quickly but you do not feel pressured to finish your course to move on to the next one. The restaurant surroundings have a definite Greek feel and replicate those of the traditional Greek tavernas I have visited on holiday. Next time you are on Lark Lane give Romios a try as it is a unique place with wonderful staff who make you feel like part of the family.

Nothing complicated - in the end, I ordered a Greek salad and a plate of Serrano ham rather than the pricier mains on the blackboards. I'm not sure how two really basic things could be so disappointing. I think it's because on the surface, this looks like a place that prides itself on sourcing and attention to detail. On the specials during my visit were such items as hand foraged local samphire, Cumbrian lamb and Pink's award winning sausages. So why was the Greek salad about 50% raw onion? Why did it feature those mealy crunchy supermarket basics tomatoes, cold from the fridge? Even the black olives mentioned on the menu were green. And they clearly did have black olives in the kitchen, because my four slices of Serrano ham (almost £6) came topped with a single olive. They boasted it was "20 month aged" - most of it had clearly been in their fridge, as it featured a faint tang of refrigerator and managed to be unpleasantly rubbery. Not sure how Serrano ham can even go rubbery but there you go. If you've boasting of excellent ingredients then it's unacceptable for the basics to fail so badly. I wouldn't bother returning.
