While the young man proceeded to cut my hair, I learned through his own sharing that he was not licensed, still in hair cutting school and it was his first day on the job. All things that would've made me say NO when asked if I wanted another barber. I then proceeded to hear about his hip hop career and how he also works as a waiter. He may some day become a decent barber, but today wasn't that day. I showed him a very clear picture of what I wanted. He did not execute. He was timid with the shears and didn't go any where near as high as asked. Scissor cut a lot of hair I never get cut by scissors. Mostly on upper sides. The buzz lines were uneven on either side of my head. The length on top varies significantly from side to side and front to back. I still have hair on back of neck and at lower part of hairline that should never be there. I also learned that the owners, think they said Juan and Mike, don't come in. When I attempted to speak to Randy, who was the most senior person there, he was confrontational and argumentative. He took offense to the fact I was upset he dished me to an unlicensed trainee on their first day without sharing that info. He made no effort to quell the situation other than to "explain to me" why I was wrong for being upset and disrespected as a returning customer. When l asked another patron who was also upset what time his appointment was, he said 3:30. It was 4:45 and his son was still in the chair. He indicated, he needed Randy to finish because they were late. At that point I left. This establishment is being run by an immature barber who is not ready to manage. He even said at one point, "I'm not the boss here bro". They have 2 unlicensed, still in training barbers on staff and no one else. Avoid at all costs!!

I ultimately went in but everyone was so busy. Eventually, a lady came up to me. The place is conveniently located near the Cranford train station and across the street from a macaron place. There are benches outside for those waiting as well as one inside by the small cash register. They do appointments BUT she said they might have an opening for me in about 20 minutes. I accepted, was added to the list, and my son ended up getting his hair cut within 10 minutes. Not bad! I'm sure it was just luck though. I'm not sure what the barber's name was but he was pretty good! I don't know much about hair cuts when he started asking me about numbers and such for how short, but I ultimately told him shorter on the sides and half as short on top. The place is a bit small and with every chair full, not much room to stand, so I waited on a bench but I caught glimpses. I don't think anyone in the family has had such a thorough job done on their hair. The cut took just about THIRTY minutes for my 4 year old. He took his time and was meticulous, putting in the fine touches and applying what looked like 20 (maybe closer to 5) hair products. When he was released, my son looked quite sharp and smelled so nice! And his longer hairs were coiffed up in a way I have no clue how to even replicate it. I don't mind spending money if needed, but I admit I've never quite spent that much money on my own hair before. You pay at the cash register ($35 for a kids' cut) and I sent my kid with cash tip to his barber. I thought my husband was going to have some choice words about it, but he was also impressed with the cut and the fact that nothing was rushed. This place is legit and the two people I spoke with were nice! Our barber wasn't the chattiest only asking what was necessary, but I didn't get an off vibe from him. He humored my daughter who did stay inside by "giving" her hair clippings when he noticed she was trying to collect them. Overall, an excellent experience. Now I still have to find a hair place for my daughter and myself and it's turn for our cuts, but at least we discovered this one!

On my last visits, Fidel has been the person to get a good haircut from. It appears he is no longer there and his chair is now manned by Edward Scissorhands with a bandanna. I went into that place with a head full of hair in need of a trim and left there with a serious hack job. The haircut was so bad and uneven, that I had to come home and give myself a total buzz cut. Stupid me chose not to argue with Edward, I just wanted to leave! I am so angry and will never go back. I've been to this shop once years ago during the pandemic and always remembered it as a chill spot where I got a great haircut once. Dec 23 rd I went in and chopped off all my hair. I left with an amazing haircut and a new barber. Louis was skilled and he himself is an amazing person who I will visit again. Wife and Mother-in-law both loved the new haircut. I highly recommend this shop and will be a regular now that I've recently moved to the area from The Bronx.
