Stopped here for lunch during the week. It was busy, but we were seated right away and all of the pans on the buffet were full. The food was hot and there are some unique offerings (like red pepper chicken) that I haven't seen on other Chinese menus. Love this place! I would eat here everyday. I never am disappointed, it always wonderful, the food is so good. Especially the coconut shrimp, they only have it after 4pm, that's a bummer, but I have waited til the clock struck 4 to get some. You have to go here when your in Yankton, you will definitely be happy you went!! Today I stopped by the King Buffet And Mongolian Grill in Yankton South Dakota today on March 26, 2019 at 11:30am. I lived in the Philippines from 2003 until 2018 and have enjoyed many good Chinese restaurants there. The Philippines has a heavy Chinese influence. My visit to the King Buffet And Mongolian Grill was fantastic. There are a total of four buffet counters, one counter near the entrance displays many different types of deserts. The other three buffet counters all display many types of authentic Chinese food. As an example there were three different types of rice, black pepper chicken, stuffed mushrooms, crab with mushrooms, sweet and sour pork, broccoli and beef, buttered potatoes and so many other dishes. The Mongolian grill is setup at the back of restaurant, all fresh meats ready to be grilled per your request. The cost was $7.99 per person, I thought the price was very reasonable compared to other all you can eat restaurants in the area. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. 10/10 would NOT recommend this place. The service is not good - workers do not converse with customers. Over half of the food was empty and we came at 6 PM. Decided to try it because of the raving reviews. Don't make the same mistake we did! I could have made better "Mongolian" food than these people. Will not be coming back. I eat here often, only decent asian buffet restaurant in town. They have Mongolian grill where you pick a selection of noodles and vegetables and meats then they'll cook while you watch. I don't usually watched, I instead just get other food on the buffet line and start eating. They have plenty of selection and always nice and hot. They sometime even have crab legs, frog legs (which i love). They have fruits, sushi rolls (not the best but edible), plenty of desserts selections as well. Price is reasonable. I do recommend this place, it's my go to place when i don't feel like cooking. read more

I eat here quite a bit, and for good reason, it's the best Chinese in a 100 mile radius. I travel for work so I frequently visit other Chinese restaurants as well and none compare to the quality and quantity of items for the price. The staff is always prompt and polite. The only bad thing (which isn't bad at all) is that it's located less than a mile from my work...If you like Chinese food, and you're looking for a decent priced lunch, stop here. read more

If this place doesn't put the other 2 Chinese restaurants in Yankton out of business, I'll be suprised. Not only is the food excellent, but the price is suprisingly cheap. 2 of us dine for less than $20 (not including tip) both lunch and dinner, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't had Chinese buffet food this tasty ANYWHERE outside of a much larger city!! This is on par with some of my favorite Chinese places in Orlando & Tampa FL, where I'm originally from. So I was delighted when I saw this place going up in the Wal-Mart shopping center. One of the other Chinese buffets in town (one I've reviewed as well) has declined in quality to the point where we stopped bothering to eat there. The last 4-5 times we went, it was so consistently bad that we'd given up on Chinese food in this town. There is another, smaller buffet that isn't as bad but we never really bothered with it either....since the selection is so small & the dining room is so close and cramped that it doesn't make for a pleasant experience. When I saw the King Buffet setting up shop in Yankton my hopes for good Chinese food were renewed!!! I was there the day after "grand opening" and I was NOT disappointed. There is a MUCH larger selection than I'd expect from a small-town Chinese buffet. 4 buffet stations. All your standard Chinese buffet fare, your usual chicken dishes.....plus a few items that are less common but highly tasty! There's a pork dish with scallions that is yummy, and several seafood dishes; one with shrimp that always tastes nice and fresh. The salmon is always done to perfection, and the dinner buffet includes crab legs. And there are also these little egg-custard thingies that I've *never* seen anywhere else but they are yummy and addicting :). And of course the Mongolian grill is excellent.....you can choose beef, pork, chicken or shrimp with your choice of veggies & noodles. 3 or 4 sauces to choose from....its basically like any other Mongolian grill I've been to, but that's a GOOD thing when it's the ONLY Mongolian grill within 70 miles, LOL. Only thing that doesn't exactly meet with MY expectations is the sushi. Now, don't get me wrong....it's the ONLY edible sushi I have seen anywhere NEAR Yankton and it's not awful by any means. But that's not saying much, since the only other places I've ever seen anything remotely resembling sushi has been the HyVee grocery store (if sushi could defecate, HyVee's sushi is what it would taste like) and the China Town buffet where the sushi contains *pickles* and is hidden behind the Jell-O like somebody's half-forgotten dirty secret. Basically, I'd like to see a little more "sushi variety" (Philly rolls, anyone?) and an attempt to keep the sushi a bit fresher.....BUT for somebody who was used to getting GOOD sushi just 10 minutes away from home in Florida, ANY sushi in SD that is edible is enough to make me happy. I'll take what I can get....and the quality of the REST of the food makes up for the mediocre sushi. I'll drive to Sioux Falls/City for sushi.....I'm just happy I can finally find good Chinese food right here in Yankton. read more

This place doesn't suck, but coming from Los Angeles the Mongolian BBQ is lacking. The buffet food isn't bad but considering your alternatives in town this is the best place for all around Asian food. There are a few other places in town each with their own strengths and weaknesses. This place however seems to be pretty consistent with its buffet items. Each time we go we leave satisfied . As the other reviewer mentioned, the sushi is not exactly fresh or delicious....but then again fresh caught fish prepared to order doesn't really exist here. We're probably spoiled having moved from LA but this is your best bet for Yankton, SD Asian food. read more

My father has been raving about the Mongolian Grill for years but somehow I've never had a chance to eat there until my recent Midwest trip and I was definitely satisfied! Since I currently live in Las Vegas, there are almost endless buffet options and somehow I just didn't expect that a buffet in Yankton would be all that great. I also thought the options would be somewhat limited. Thankfully I was wrong on both assumptions. For the person who likes Asian takeout, they will be able to find almost anything that they would normally order at say, Panda Express. There is even sushi! Granted, this is more the California roll type sushi and if you expect high end sashimi, this admittedly isn't your place. They even have dessert selections. The Mongolian grill has a good selection, fair prices and the flavors are a-ok! The only negative I would have would be that some of the food was closer to warm than hot but really, this is a value buffet and even with that small negative, I'll gladly come back next time I'm in town! read more

Huge selection of food items for a town the size of Yankton. The food is constantly coming out of the kitchen and was all hot. Great taste and a very friendly and helpful staff. One of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to. Good selection and everything was kept fresh and hot. Boyfriend devoured the garlic shrimp and crab legs. Sushi selection was mediocre but was glad that they offered it. I recently moved back to Yankton after several years away and have been looking for good Chinese food since I returned. I found the other 2 Chinese restaurants in town to be mediocre at best, but this one is excellent! With a buffet the 2 biggest concerns for me are 1)freshness and 2)variety. The King Buffet was excellent on both counts. We tried small portions of many different items and found them all to be fresh and VERY tasty! My dad is a very old-fashioned mid-western meat and potatoes kind of guy who doesn't like Chinese food. He gave this one a try and is now raving about it and promised to go back soon. There truly is something for everybody here. Last but not least the service was absolutely top notch. The drinks arrived quickly. Our used dishes were quickly taken out of the way. And there were many smiles and 'thank you's throughout. I highly recommend it and look forward to going back soon myself. read more

This is the WORST place to eat sushi if you can even call it that. Rolling spiced ginger into a roll with lettuce and rice is not sushi! It might make it appear to be salmon but nah don't cut it. The same deceptive crap with several other rolls. I think there was one that had shrimp in it for a small ounce of credit.... but I would never go here again for it. Never thought there could be BAD sushi but this place takes the prize! read more
