The cashier will bring your food and drink when it's ready. The service was acceptable. Not warm and friendly but at least it was courteous and efficient. The atmosphere is fast food restaurant meets school cafeteria. It seemed clean and fairly well maintained. It certainly didn't feel trendy or even modern. But really, of foid, service, value and ambiance, really I care least about ambiance. I'd go to lunch with friends from work but I wouldn't bring a dinner date. This the best Chinese food in Sioux City. Good sized portions that won't break the bank. Each meal comes with choice of fried rice, lo mein or white rice and either crab rangoon or an egg roll. My family has eaten here a couple times a month since we found this place. I love the firecracker chicken. Always order some of the best hot and sour soup I have ever had. The service is always great, the owners are very friendly and attentive. Portions are appropriate, if a little larger, and the price always reasonable. They are very accommodating to make sure you leave satisfied. The food is very western in approach to Asian food, but made very well. Food has always had the proper cook with great flavor. High hopes. What we got was a nearly empty dining room and service that never caught up to a two-top. When we walked in, one couple was finishing and soon left. After that we were the only people in a room that could easily hold 30. It took a while for a man (we assumed the owner) to bring menus, then several more minutes for water. Eventually a woman with very limited English came to the table. We worked through questions as best we could and ordered the fried tofu appetizer plus two vegetable entrees: drunken noodles and Pad Khing. Rice on the vegetable plate was $3 extra -- odd when you expect rice with a veggie meal. The tofu arrived with a generic sweet-and-sour sauce. No peanut flavor at all. My wife had to go to the counter to ask about the advertised peanut sauce. The response was a handful of crushed peanuts to sprinkle on the sweet-and-sour. That is not a "secret sweet peanut sauce." That is a workaround after the fact. The entrees were edible, nothing more. The drunken noodles had a few vegetables tossed in like an afterthought. The Pad Khing was fine once you paid extra for rice. Nobody checked on the table the whole meal. The man stayed in a back room with a young child. The woman who was serving us ate her own dinner behind the counter. When we finished, no check came. I walked up while she was scraping her plate into the trash, paid with Apple Pay, left a modest tip we didn't feel was earned, and walked out. Food: okay. Service: absent. The peanut-sauce bait-and-switch was the real disappointment. We left wondering how a place this empty, with this kind of attention, sits at 4+ stars. I'd hate to see what happens if ten people walked in at once. We won't be back.
