I had my first experience of the Conti as a gig venue on Saturday night. Not being a local, I had…read morenever heard of the place before (having only visited Preston itself a few times and those being gigs at the Mad Ferrit and the Student Union). My first impression is that parking is a wee bit of a nightmare and it's a little out of town. That being said, having seen a sample of the other options in Preston - it seems to be worth a bit of a walk. 1) It was Busy! In this day and age (with pubs being on the decline), it was fantastic to see a place so vibey and buzzing. The bar area was busy, the restaurant was nearly full and people were sitting outside under the heaters. 2) Very reasonably priced! We stuck to the Conti Home-brew (at a very passable £2.60 a pint), but a vodka and coke was around £2.70 and it hosts and enviable selection of beers, wines and spirits. The Import lagers are more pricey, but that is to be expected as they're a specialist drink. 3) The crowd was lovely! There was a mix of people in the bar due to the gig, but nearly everyone was chatting to each other and having a joke. I didn't feel like an outsider at all and had a wonderful experience shooting the breeze with many of the locals. The pub itself was clean and well presented and the gig space was perfect for a crowd of around 200 people (with mixed seating and standing). The sound was dead good for the bands and the space really lent itself to hosting small to medium sized events. I didn't have any food, but it looked and smelled very nice indeed. If I had a local like this, I think it would be a bit of a staple venue. Good job Conti!

It seems that…read morethey focus largely on being a music venue but when we visited during the day for food and a few drinks we felt well looked after. The menu is all American "dude food" (as my dad calls it) which is a bit boring and overdone but I can't really blame them for this as everyone else is and people keep buying it. I was happy to see they had a few vegetarian options as even though I'm not veggie, I didn't really fancy a huge meat feast when I visited. All the food was perfectly tasty but just too huge and sloppy to be fully enjoyable. I had a halloumi burger with mushrooms and some sweet potato fries on the side. This was a really hefty chunk of halloumi which I struggled to get through. This could partly be attributed to the fact that I ate a sandwich on the train over from Manchester, but my parents and sister also struggled with their food (chicken wrap; burger; hot dog with chilli). If you want to eat here then come hungry! The food was really reasonably priced as well, coming in at under £30 for 4 meals and 3 sides. The draught beer selection was good as was the bottles. I chose a Buxton New World Saison and a Rhub IPA which were both really nice. The barman had misplaced all bottle openers somehow so I had to open them myself with a bottle opener I keep on my keys. In another place this would have been pretty scandalous but in a self-styled dive/student bar it was just quite funny. Graffiti in the toilets was plentiful and amusing, with both my mum and my sister sourcing numerous numbers to phone for sex should they feel so inclined, and me finding out that one patron loves Bill Murray. If I was a student in Preston I can imagine spending many happy hours in here, and if you're in town then it's only a 10 minute walk from the station and a good option for beers and burgers.

Deepdale, home to Preston North End FC is one of the oldest football stadiums in the world, opened…read morein 1878 it is often regarded as the longest continually used stadium in the world. - signs of its age can show such as the construction of the stadium being rather strange which includes a built-in walk-in/doctors surgery as well as an old-fashioned, strange enterance to executive areas which at times look like houses. The stadium also remains pretty difficult to navigate - it also didn't help that a steward sent me the wrong way meaning I had to pass thousands of Preston fans, before getting into the game where I'd watch my Manchester City defeat Preston 3-0 at an almost full capacity ground (the stadium holds just over 24,000) Away disabled supporters are located at pitchside in a ditch area, which is lower than the pitch making it rather difficult to see action at the other side of the pitch - I even struggled to see if the ball had or hadn't gone in for some attempts, supported by only one scoreboard/screen which was above the away end meaning no away fans could see the scoreboard or watch replays which I didn't like - once again this shows the age of the stadium. I also couldn't believe my eyes when the match was playing that staff members kept walking past slowly, blocking the view (mainly of disabled supporters) including a program seller who wouldn't leave until he sold one - I mean come on, we're here to watch the game so what are you doing mate? The one good thing about the pitchside location is the fact the players can come over to greet you after the game, which Benjamin Mendy did - a fantastic player and person. The match tickets were pretty reasonably priced but it was a Carabao Cup fixture which is generally cheap anyway as it is a competition often used for big teams to give their youth players and B-team a chance, The stadium is pretty easy to get to with bus stops nearby although after the match the traffic is horrendous, often resulting in a two-mile walk back to the city centre and train station - I do feel the bus companies are missing a trick by forcing anyone heading from the train station to the stadium to change buses (an extra ticket) because many away fans would be reliant on public transport and most stadiums I've been to do have a direct route from the nearby train station including Liverpool, my Manchester City and of course Wembley, the national stadium - even teams around Preston's level such as Stoke City and Wigan Athletic do, so it's not just a divisional thing. Certainly not the best stadium in the country, and it is one of the oldest - I'd say the overall match experience for away fans is made pretty poor due to the difficulty and lack of signage getting into the stadium and then facilities such as lacking a view of the screen etc. 2* - Historic ground but pretty dismal for away fans other than being able to get closer to your players than most other stadiums.

I don't like that when you buy this team's kit, the numbers and name on the back are Preston instead of Sewnon. But it's ok. PNE stands for only one thing in my world. And that's' Post-Natal Ecstasy. Oh wait. Back to the football. First-Hand Experience: Absolutely adore PNE. Have seen them play at home, and also away against their hated rivals Blackpool. I don't know why they hate each other when they are both amazing teams. I support both of them fully. Well done to Preston for being promoted, absolutely delighted about that. I want to see them as a Prem team one day. I love going to Deepdale to watch them and will be going again in 2016. One of the biggest and best teams outside the Prem and an easy 5 star rating. Preston North End is one of the most historic and grand teams outside the Premier League. Based on size alone they should be back in it. They have a beautiful loud intense 25k seat stadium, but they just have been mismanaged for a long time. They have some glory days though. They were champions of England twice, in 1889 and 1890. They were runners up many times, including twice in the 1950s. They won the FA Cup twice, in 1889 and 1938 right before WWII. Wolves, Burnley and Preston are the only teams who have been champions of all four divisions at some time or another. They have also lost in the cup final 5 times. Definitely one of the classic teams of England, but all these reviews dedicated to the stadium should be moved to the new stadium listing which I created! :)

Very good for entertainment, I have used this building on many occasions mainly for stand up…read morecomedians and the World Snooker. The arena is very spacious, the seats can be very uncomfortable if you are sat in them too long, but the atmosphere in the arena has been electric during the snooker particularly in the final and if a player is scoring a very high break on the table. The bar area is nice and clean, the staff are dressed smart and well presented but the beer is very expensive and not of a great quality either. There are plenty of seating spaces within the area. I only tend to have a drink in there during intervals.

Now that normally gives a great atmosphere to a place, especially in the sunshine, but in this place it makes it a bit uncomfortable. There are a couple of tables on the bottom floor but you have to go up a narrow staircase to reach the bar and the wait for drinks was a good 15/20mins. The bar staff were great though and they couldn't go any quicker, it just seemed they weren't set up for large numbers. Still though, a nice place in Rammy for a drink!
