They have had everyone from Kylie to Prince to the very recent Brandon Flowers perform here. Tickets prices are quite reasonably priced depending who you're going to see, its nice to see that they have a great selection of draft beers to choose from and not that badly priced. So keep an eye out to see if you're favourite artist is going to perform at this great little venue.

Kept us all going all night and very good value for money. The venue upstairs is beautiful. Great sized room. Private toilet. Good size bar. The space is used so you can stand and chat dance. Do full on routines if you want (which i never did contrary to popular rumours lol) The staff are lovely and I got a really good deal on fizz that was delicious and flowing all night. I think if you want a good size room for no more than about a 100 people in a good safe and easy to get to location. With friendly staff. Great value for money and an amazing venue. This is the place. I would highly recommend this. My hangover the next day however was well worth it although my body didn't grew at the time.

Zombie shack opened its doors last Wednesday and I went along to see how the venue (formerly known as the Attic) had been transformed into its new incarnation. Located above the Thirsty scholar on Oxford road, this particular Tiki bar provides a great alternative spot for a few cocktails. The Northern Quarter has become THE main hub for thirsty cocktailovers and this venue placed on the other side of town, perhaps provides a perfect place to start the night. The entrance to Zombie shack is quite hard to miss, the wall directly under the Oxford Road train station bridge adorns a colorful splash of graffiti bearing the Zombie Shack coat of arms. The adjacent rather steep spirally staircases then funnel you into an intimate little dimly lit bar. Walking in, you'd find the bar to the right, a hive of activity. The dance floor in front of you takes center stage and as you perform your first 360, you'll find the walls are worn by more brilliant graffiti creating a mini cocktail eco-system. The seating is rather limited as is space in general, but that actually works in the bar's favor creating a vibrant atmosphere. The cocktail menu will be familiar to most cocktail connoisseurs, with naturally "The Zombie" being the centre piece. A few of these bad boys (each including five different rums) and you're guaranteed to forget all your worries and everything else, reducing you to a stumbling, mumbling, haitian corpse. I love this place, but a word of warning for the fairer sex, wearing high heels is not advised. Walking down the steep spirally stairs on a wet Manchester evening after a few could prove more dangerous than a stroll down the streets of Baghdad red zone.

Let's just say, there's been a lot and I enjoyed most of them. The shows I didn't were usually down to something out of the band's control like getting all their equipment stolen the day before and having to play with borrowed equipment and no soundcheck! The smallest of Manchester Academy's venues, the Hop & Grape is also the most intimate and atmospheric. There's a tiny bar at the back selling beer, cider and spirits and raised windows sills down both sides - which you can jump up and sit on if you get there early enough. Otherwise, it's a case of standing or if you're near the front and it's a rock gig, moshing with the kids! In the summertime, the lack of air conditioning means sold out gigs can get unbearably stuffy / humid. When I saw Antony and The Johnsons here a few years back, he even made a quip about sweat dripping off the ceiling and onto his piano!
