The pub area still retains the old feel but the dining room has been updated with more modern decore. There is a bit of seating out front and a nice garden in the back. On draft they had a small selection of quality ales from Cornwall along with the usual Guinness, Carlings, etc. The real standout for me was Young's Bitter which isn't common around Cheltenham. Their lunch menu isnt't huge, but it was extensive enough to cover everyone's tastes. My only gripe was that their sandwich selection was fairly small and was all on ciabatta bread, which isn't my favorite. Still, the steak sandwich was excellent and the addition of capers was a nice touch. My wife's mother had the shepherd's pie and my wife had the fish cakes, both of which were also very good. If you happen to be out for a hike near Chedworth or are heading to the Roman Villa I highly recommend at stop at the Seven Tuns. If nothing else it's a convenient place to grab a pint.

Without a doubt my favorite pub in the Cotswolds/ Cheltenham area…read more I always think of the Appletree as what the average foreign person would think of when describing an old English countryside pub. In a building that seems as if it has stood for hundreds of years, the Appletree is full of character and leaves you with a genuine warm and happy feeling. Experiencing it at different times of the year, you'll also get a different perspective and memory each time you come in. The last I came to England and visited was around October/November and I remember sitting enjoying a drink by the warm fireplace; this time around it was smack in the middle of July during a heat wave. Windows and doors open, the outside garden area was most certainly the place to be with a slight breeze to cool you down in the sweltering heat. Some excellent classic pub food also awaits you here; whitebait, fried mushrooms, Pate and a Beef and Ale pie were all ordered and absolutely delicious. The Appletree has a very local feel, a picturesque setting, deep in the Bishops Cleeve countryside, and is just something to experience and savior, especially for those visiting.
