This is a honest review for my experience with king's garage and 'rich' the owner. I needed work done on both my front and rear brakes on my 2007 cbr 600rr from not riding for for 2 years. The breaks became very spongy and I tried to bleed it out and do it myself, but it was a severe problem from the bike sitting for so long. One of my friend been to kings garage and recommended me there, he said the owner was a super cool guy. I gave it shot and called rich, told him about my bike and he said it'll prob be around $250-$300 to fix. I said cool man I trust you, my friend recommended me here so I trust you. I asked when it'll be done, rich said if you bring it in today it'll be done in a week. It turned out to be almost 2 months my bike was at the shop. Which is fine because rich said there was a problem with my fuel injection and fuel doesn't work well when it was been sitting. Which is still fine no problem. I told rich, sure we can do that. I was able to take my bike back after almost 2 months at the shop, which I'm still fine about. The bill went from around $300 to almost $900. I was shocked but I was cool with it and paid the man. But when I rode the bike off, I turned around because I felt the brakes were still soft, I told rich, the breaks were still soft and he did a quick maintenance on the them and I still felt like it was not firm, but I hate complaining so I left. 2 months later my rear breaks didn't work at all, so I came back paid another $90 bucks, 2 months after both my breaks are super soft, almost no pressure at all. I ended up paying almost $1000, for the fuel injection and the breaks, as far as I'm concern the fuel is working but the breaks barely work. I don't mind paying for services but I don't like trusting somebody and feel like I just got taken advantage of. I felt like I was respectful with the 2 months of my bike being there, not complaining about how long it toke, not complaining with the overcharged prices that wasn't discussed, but I felt like i trusted someone and they used that to take advantage of me. Even though rich seems like a nice person, I spent a lot of money and I didn't get the provided service that I needed, and having something as important as working breaks can save or kill you on the road. read more

Left my pristine 1973 Honda CB-750 with Rich on January 22, 2020 for continually blowing the main fuse and did not get it back till first week in May...close to 4 months later. He wrote a rather detailed report on my invoice of what he did and charged me 700 dollars. It was fine for a few days but then suffered a serious electrical failure with no starter or lights whatsoever after three rides. It was quite frustrating after not having my bike for all those months and then electrical failure days later. Considering the almost four months Rich had it and that it failed electrically again so soon, I have decided to go to another local shop. 700 of my precious dollars up in smoke. And days later now no starter and no lights? He's a very nice guy but I do not feel at all comfortable going through the agonizing process again at King's. It's time for a change of venue. This is how a motorcycle shop should be!   If you ever had doubts or worries about whether the jobs are done right on your bike, you NEED to come see Rich.  After all, your life literally depends on your bike.  Rich, and his protege Nate, understand and share this sentiment.  They are riders who take care of fellow riders.  They and their shop are completely open books, no secrets, no behind the door "my insurance policy says this" BS.  You get to see everything that happens to your bike up close and personal.   Anyways, thanks to fellow Yelpers I found Rich.  After talking to him on the phone, my instinct tells me this is the guy I can trust (that, and he told me I can probably get cheaper tires by ordering online than going through him).  After my tires arrived three weeks later (a drawback with ordering parts online), I called again to arrange dropping off my tires and bringing in my bike the next day.   On my drop-off visit, I was expecting to see a car shop with a few bikes (after all, the Yelp page does say they work on cars and Rich is an ASE certified tech).  To my pleasant surprise, that was not what I observed.  King's garage was full of bikes - always a good sign.   On the next day I rode my bike into the shop, Rich and Nate were expecting me.  A minor setback - Rich did not have a stand for a single-sided swingarm bike.  I can't blame him too hard because his website says he specializes in Japanese bikes, and there's almost no Japanese bike with a single-sided swingarm - except my Honda CB1000R, which was made in Italy.   Undaunted, Rich had his protege Nate (also a fellow rider/racer, awesome R1 BTW) to proceed with the oil change, while he went to local gear shops to find a stand for me.  After talking with Nate, I can see why Rich hand-picked him - he's both talented (mechanically from what I can observe) and honest.  Also - you have to respect a racer who builds and works on his own bike.  If he's willing to trust his life with his work, I'm willing to do the same.   Oil change went well after overcoming a small obstacle (oil filter cover and K&N filter's extra nut).  They use the same parts that they use on their race bikes (Mobil 1 full synthetic and K&N filter).  Nate was starting on the front tire change when Rich returned... empty handed.  Apparently no local gear shop had any single-sided swingarm stand in stock.  Rich found one that's quite far away.  He said he will go out and get it, but want to get me home so I am not stuck there.  I agreed and Nate drove me home.  Later that afternoon (sooner than I anticipated), Rich and Nate delivered my bike to my home.  Rich explained he had checked everything and all is in good condition.  He advised to take it easy and break in the tires for the first 100 miles.   I can't wait to be riding again, this time knowing Rich and Nate have my back if I ever need anything... hopefully only for maintenance in 3000 miles. read more

Got a nasty nail on my rear tire, called the dealer where I just bought the bike less than a month ago and sure enough they said they would replace the tire but could not /will not patch or plug the tire. But for $190 they can replace it with a new one. I wasn't about to pay that much when the tire barely had 1200 miles on it being a new bike and all. The tire was still holding in air so I rode to Kings Garage and was immediately greeted and helped out by Rich. I let him know the issue and he was more than happy to take care of me and my Beastie. It was quick and painless and Rich saved me a ton of money. He was also very informative and straight to the point. We chit chatted about racing on the track and safety on the streets. My Honda CBR 1000 broke down and I change my battery. Still did not work brought it to this place took along time for the repair and the end result multiple back jobs he replaced the stator and other parts that are defective charge me for a lump sum amount and had to tow the. Ike 3x to repair the same problem. I would not recommend the sloppy job to my biker friends . Terrible service! First of all I had my bike in his shop for 8months! I'd get it out for less than a week and the same problem kept occurring from day one. My stater was supposedly not working. He replaced it 3 separate times along with the rectifier and it continued to fail. Bill after bill I paid and he got no where but failure. I finally decided this isn't the mechanic for me pulled it out of the shop and put it into another shop. My new mechanic told me what the problem was over the time phone and had it fixed in 3 days after bringing it in. He had switched the oem parts with Chinese parts to save a few pennies which causes the rectifier to fail. Time passes and the bikes running fine and I decide to change a damaged stater cover (side case) after opening it up I find that he had at some point stripped out a bolt to the stater and instead of replacing it he cut the head off the bolt and left it in the side case. This is extremely unprofessional and I would never ever recommend him to anyone! I have a 73 Honda cb500 that wouldn't turn over with a kick start, so I brought it to Rich's shop around July of 2016 after specifically asking him if he could fix that kind of bike (because it's such an older model). He said yes, so I brought it to his shop and he explained that the repair cost might exceed what I paid for the bike. I told him I didn't mind that, I bought it knowing it would need a major overhaul. I liked the bike and planned to keep it for a long time. I went ahead and gave him the green light for repairs and his initial time frame was about 3 months. After about a year, I moved out of state to start grad school and he still hadn't finished working on my bike. We made an agreement that his buddy who ships bikes would bring the bike to me in Washington when Rich was done working on it. Ten months after I moved, I finally get the call that he was ready to ship the bike to me, which was nearly two years after I brought it in. Unfortunately, I was going to Georgia to work on my thesis for my degree so I couldn't accept or store the bike. Rich went ahead and stored the bike for me for "free". Fast forward to December of 2018 when I come back to Washington, I start leaving Rich voicemails and Facebook messages about arranging for my bike to get shipped to me. I send him a message and phone call about once a month for five months, without a reply. Finally, in May of 2019, he gets back to me saying that his friend cannot ship the bike before I move from Washington. Rich had agreed to split the shipping cost with me while using his friend's business, but did not contribute a single penny when I had to arrange a shipper myself. So I finally get the bike back two weeks ago, noticing an uncomfortably loose front brake and shifting cable practically touching the front tire, a super sun-bleached seat, and new rust that wasn't on the bike when I dropped it off three years ago. I try to get the thing going annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it doesn't start. I try everything. Kick start, electric start, play with the choke. Nothing. The battery drains from all the starting I try to do. I put the battery on a trickler over night, and wait to try again the next day. The following day I play with the idle screw. The engine comes to life, but sounds like an asthmatic chain smoker with mini back fires every 10 seconds. I give the bike a two minute ride during which the engine kicks into one million rpms with the slightest twist of the throttle. The ride lasts all of two minutes before it sputters out, likely because of flooding. I walk my bike back to my garage and start really looking at the bike. First thing I see is a missing nut from one of my throttle cables, but seeing that it returns to the right positions it didn't seem like that was causing the problem. I contact Rich telling him I'm pretty dissatisfied with the fact that I waited all that time and spent all that money for a bike that doesn't work and that I'd like some money back. He effectively said "I don't know what's wrong, it started when it left and I don't think it's justified to return any money." I paid the man upfront and in full over 5 thousand dollars in December of 2017 during a visit from school, in good faith and in the hopes that it would give him the proper motivation to finish my bike. You already know how that went. So I get my buddy to come look at the bike, and we do a vacuum test of the engine using propane to see if the engine kicks into higher rpms with some propane being released near the gasket seals. It absolutely did. When we looked at the breather cover over the cylinders we notice a flange bolt missing from one of the corners. I ordered a replacement online and will have it sometime next week, and am hoping it will solve the vacuum problem. Rich followed up by admitting that he calibrated the carburetors to an altitude of 89ft above sea level, when my location in central Washington is actually 1400 ft above sea level, which partly explains why I had to adjust the idle screw in order to get the engine to turn over. Now we're caught up to the present, Rich has stopped responding to my perfectly professional though clearly annoyed messages, and has made no offer to partially reimburse me for the sloppy work he has done. To be fair, Rich is a very friendly guy, with a seemingly good knowledge base of motorcycles. He did a complete rebuild of the bike, which I understand was a lot of time and effort. But, my overall impression is that he takes on more jobs than he can complete in a timely manner, and that he did not have a deep enough familiarity with my bike specifically to repair it in a reasonable amount of time. That alone is not a fault, but his unwillingness to say as much is. He wasted my time, he wasted my money, and his communication and transparency could use a lot of improvement. read more

The reviews are well deserved! I came by King's Garage today in hope to gets an estimate on how much all of the little nit-knacks would cost for my bike that I recently purchased. Rich made my experience enjoyable and learned so much when I was talking to him. I had asked him straight out if i should be spending additional money on fixing up the bike. He took a quick look at the bike and was already telling me of all the issues I had was going to be more than what the bike is actually worth! He was telling me despite the bike being in running condition, there were many parts of the bike that were either loose or missing that could be potentially life threatening, you can't pay for that kind of honesty. We're a fan, Sal and I. His Yamaha Vstar wouldn't stay started and I didn't want him to go to his usual place because we were just there 2 months prior. His usual place never calls him about updates or problems until he calls them. What kind of service is that? It's frustrating. So I looked on Yelp and a number of moto shops popped up. The best and highly rated one on that list is King's Garage. There aren't that many moto repair shops around, much less one that is actually owned by someone who rides. I love that Rich is a moto guy. He has built his own motorcycles and repaired them himself. That gives him credibility. He's a sponsor and a mentor, a teacher and a guide, who has a wealth of information and is willing to give it away. Ask him and more than likely, he'll have an intellectual answer to share. You could always go online and research what he said and you'll find that it's all true. Throw in his own personal experience and you'll get a better lesson than by just reading the facts. Rich couldn't find anything wrong with the Vstar but he cleaned EVERYTHING. He went through all the parts, test drove it over and over again, and still -- for taking apart everything, cleaning it up, then reassembling it - at a fraction of cost & a major fraction of servicing time --- he could not find a single thing. Well, I am leaving a review (came in November 14) as Sal's Vstar is performing very well. Rich's diagnostic may not have come with any concrete answers but whatever he did, he helped improve the mileage, overall sound, performance, and starting up. Sal's mileage is typically for a 3 gallon tank and usually, he would fill up at the 100 mark. Now, he fills up between the 120-140 mark. We'll be back if we have to be, but I don't expect so -- unless we're putting it back to stock for sale or some unforeseen problem comes up. read more
