I visit the Tav every-single-week, but upon inquiring about hiring out your beer garden for a private function on a Thursday night, you say you wanna charge me a minimum 15 grand because the beer garden currently quote unquote makes "a lot of coin" and that by the time I want to hire it you reckon it will be making a lot more coin than it currently makes? I gotta tell ya you're dreaming. Not only that but I wouldn't be allowed to play my own tunes? Piffle. Yep you dont have pokies, but you dont have live music neither. You've mixed up our food order more than once, and well those tacos are starting to get soggy my friend. I am dissapoint. I guess profit really does come before locals.. I asked for the basic, but the bartender quickly tried to get me to try the jalapeno margarita. I was quick to decline since I'm not into jalapeno or spicy drinks. The drink was mixed and strained into a martini glass... didn't seem to be as full as it should have been, but I wasn't upset. Drink tasted great, not too strong, too sweet, or too tart. I noticed lots of people getting the freshly pressed apple drinks, so I decided to try one. When in Rome, er, Newtown.... Asked for the Sailor Jerry and apple, but once again, the bartender was quick to recommend something different. He wanted me to try JD Tennessee Fire and apple. I know it's like Fireball, which I hate, but he was very persistent with his glowing recommendation, so I obliged. I'm glad I did, because it was delicious. You could only taste a hint of the whiskey, but mixed in with the fresh apple juice - which had a nice frothy foam on top - it was like cinnamon spiced apple sauce. Yum! If you don't listen to the bartender's advice, listen to mine! Prices? Eh, it's Sydney, not cheap. It is what it is. In the end, very pleased with my visit. Kind of annoying that both times I asked for a drink, they tried to convince me to make me something else (must have been competing on a promo or something), but hey, their advice was sound and if I didn't listen, I would't have had my delicious applesauce drink!

The pub has this really nice charm about it, and has a lovely beer garden out the back (with only a small section for the smokers). The rear section is a restaurant while the bar at the front is basically a craft beer bar (though it isn't anywhere near as great as some of the true craft beer bars). I have to say that I really did enjoy this little pub, though I was pretty quiet when I came here, though that probably has a lot to do with it being in the afternoon on a week day. Still, it is a great little place to relax with a craft beer.

The bar is clustered, yet colorful, and the blackboard on the wall is scribbled to the brim with food and drink items. They offer a multitude of retro and inventive cocktails, and the hipster bar staff appeared capable in executing these drinks to perfection. There's a large balcony that offers views of Taylor Square, allowing you to spy on the sloppy messes trying to navigate Oxford Street. I felt lucky to be up here. From what I remember, the music was primarily 90s and RnB, all coming from a pretty decent speaker system. I kinda shrugged of confusion when I heard 'errybody in the club getting tipsy,' reminded briefly of when that song was played at my high school dances of yesteryear. So I just busted out my high school moves. Up the stairs from the main bar, there's a whole other room with a large dance floor and high ceilings, decor in the same vein as below. But it did well, and the young owner was told that an evening wine bar would also do well, so now it does that as well. And it does both well. It's a small space, with a street-facing counter for a quick coffee, a few tables, and a semi-private booth in front; a long corridor past the kitchen and storerooms; and then a small funky courtyard in back. I've been for breakfast and found it fun and tasty. My salsa eggs, with spicy diced tomato-y bits and salty halloumi, were a fine breakfast. I've been for drinks and found it very relaxed, and with a big and interesting list of wines (by glass and bottle), beers (imported bottles), and cocktails (2 for 1 Hendricks gin sours? sure!). Shared with some warm spiced olives, and you've got yourself a very happy hour. We had one incident where coffees were forgotten during a breakfast order, but other than that service has been exemplary: very friendly, and not in a fake way. Super neighbourhood cafe/bar.
