But when the pain in my molars got unbearable I had to book an appointment. I thought I'd try out this one because it's so close to home. It's a clean, professional practice. I couldn't help but notice how attractive the female staff were, who all seemed incredibly glamourous. I was seen by Dr Johal. He seemed to be more engaged in banter with his assistant than paying much attention to the patient in the chair - me! I went in complaining about pain in one tooth, I was told I need a filling in four teeth in all four corners of my mouth! It was ever so pricey so I settled for just the one filling, which he offered immediately. The pain reduced significantly but still shocks me from time to time.

I used to be a huge fan of this Dental Center when I lived in the UK and had a lot of work done as a private patient, meaning cash out my pocket as was not an NHS patient. Staff were always friendly, dentists and hygienist were great! Had to have a root canal. However, I have now gone to my American dentist who has said that the root canal never went the full length of the root which is now causing problems and needs redoing. In addition the amalgam used to fill was left jagged in between the teeth which is causing problems. It will now cost me just a little under 6k to have these amateur mistakes fixed. On top of it when I request to have my x-Rays and records forwarded on to my home dentist they want to charge me. Just really appalled and disappointed at the whole thing. Will be making a formal complaint, contacting the regulating body and ombudsman and possibly getting my solicitor involved. I feel they should entirely reimburse me for the mistakes!

The decor is light and airy, as you walk in you are warmly greeted by one of the reception staff. There is a tv and a small play area for toddlers. Once in the consulting room Dr Gabriel really puts you at ease, she is wonderful with the kids too. There is limited patient car parking place outside the building but plenty of off road spaces locally. The 997 and 28 buses stop just opposite.

My own Bhandal practice was open but had no dentist in, (What use is that) so I contacted 111 who got a dental nurse to call me back to carry out an assessment and make an emergency referral. Within 10 minutes, this practice called me back with an appointment 45 minutes later. I'd been in agony with a back molar that needed to come out. I don't know anyone who likes going to the dentist but I must say this was a pleasant experience from start to finish. Receptionist and other staff in reception area were all so lovely. The lady dentist and dental nurse were absolutely fantastic. Talked to me through the procedure and made me very at ease. I've had a lot of pain in the past when I've had the injections to numb my teeth but not today. I didn't even feel her extract the tooth. I was given expert advice following the extraction, especially on how to prevent a dry socket which I've had previously and never ever want to have that pain again. I would highly recommend this dental practice and if I could change and have these as my regular dentist I would. Thank you ladies. You were all amazing

Sarah the head receptionist is always lovely and totally understands my fear of the dentist. After having serious problems as a child I'm always going to be a regular yet my fear won't get any better. I find all of the staff here sympathetic to me and though I'm usually nervous we are always able to fit in a joke. They have recently laid down a full back garden for patients to appreciate when waiting for results to be called through or other family members to finish appointments, it's also a great area for children as this surgery holds a lot of families.

When we got there the building was super modern and clean, I've worked in several labs and I've never seen ones this nice before. There were also car parking spaces available for quite a few cars, which is handy. The technician talked us through each stage of how the implant was to be made and answered all of our questions. He really made my friend feel comfortable and confident about the whole procedure. The end product was awesome. You can't even tell that her front two teeth are fake! We would definitely recommend them, the staff were lovely they really helped to reassure my friend during a difficult time.

Every time I experienced pain he stopped work and allowed for a break. The nurse was also on hand to keep me calm and help the dentist with my mouth. After the experience I was given a few minutes to adjust my clean mouth and to sit up and let the air run to my head. I was not rushed in the slightest. I've eventually come to the conclusion that the perfect one really doesn't exist, it's me who has the problem. Having said all this, in a bid to show my children that going to the dentist is absolutely fine, I gave James Hull a go. The dentist I saw was kind, allowed me to bring my baby son in with me and didn't spend ages telling me all the expensive treatments I could have on my teeth. The hygienist was good too and even allowed me to have my son on my lap during treatment as he was screaming the house down in the dental nurse's arms. The only thing that has put me off is that I was due to go back for another clean with the hygienist and they cancelled on me a few days before. Now, I don't need any excuse not to go and so I haven't bothered making a new appointment as their cancellation came by letter. If they'd phoned me, I probably would have re-booked, but a letter gave me the perfect excuse not to bother. I'll probably move on to yet another practice soon.

From the Receptionists to the Dentists working at Pentwyn, they always make me feel welcomed and are very friendly. Dr. David Gingell is a Dental Practitioner at Pentwyn. Having been a qualified Dental Surgeon since 1981 it has always been obvious to me that he knows what he is doing. The fact that he supports West Bromwich Albion means I have been able to have plenty of football banter with him since I am also a Baggie. Every time I have been to Pentwyn Dental Surgery, I have rarely been disappointed. The only minor criticism I would have is the wait. You could be waiting for at least five to ten minutes for your appointment with the Dentist Surgeon. So if you do have an appointment, get there early.

They are full of advice; in fact I realised that the reason I've had fillings in recent years, when I really don't eat an awful lot of sweets (except for cinema treats) is because I'm not brushing correctly. It turns out, just brushing thoroughly for 2 whole minutes twice daily and flossing does the trick. It's the first check I remember when I had not treatment, not even a little tiny filling. Mr Rooprai, who I see always remembers conversations (a bit like a hairdresser) does and we talk about me travels during the 2 minutes I have before he starts checking my teeth. He's also full of humour and they always have the radio on which relaxes me just a bit. Highly recommended if you can get in as a NHS patient.

It's a nicely decorated and rather soothing place and the staff seem friendly. I've popped in a few times with my Mom - she needed a bit of moral support following an unfortunate incident with a boiled sweet (she had to have root canal treatment...which is as horrible as it sounds) but really, I wasn't needed as the procedure was pretty straight forward and the Dentist who treated her just the right mix of professional and soothing. There's also a good selection of reading material - Hello, Okay and other glossies that I only ever read in waiting rooms and are a bit of a guilty pleasure!

Having decided not to bother going back to James Hull after they cancelled my hygienist appointment (see review), I thought I'd give these guys a try. I kept passing it on my way to visit a friend. My husband and daughter really like it. The dentist was very kind to my daughter and she got a sticker at the end of her visit, which is what it's all about, quite frankly when you're little. My husband isn't terrified of the dentist like I am and really rates the service. He's had to go a few times and really likes the dentist he sees. It's quite old fashioned I guess and is obviously a converted house or bungalow, but it reminds me of the dentist I used as a cihild (which is a good thing!) For me, the jury's still out, but then I'm a really hard customer to please. I will go back though, eventually, so I guess that's as good a sign as any for me. Also, they accept NHS.
