One of the things I love about London is that it's full of green space and this part of town is no exception. Clissold Park is my local park and I take full advantage of its location. The park is great for running, bike riding and walking. It has ponds with various types of birds, for the bird watching set and a cafe for the watch the world go by set. The large green spaces are ideal for a picnics or letting your dog run around and chase things. FYI, because dogs are allowed in the park and not everyone cleans up after their pets make sure you look where you are stepping. In addition to the open green spaces the park is an excellent outing for kids. There are animals in an enclosed area and a play area filled with swings, slides and a juggle-gym. One of the best things about Clissold Park is that it's never so crowded that I cannot enjoy it. In the morning if I'm running in the park, there are other runners but not so many that I have to worry about running over someone or being run over in return. In the summer the park hosts a Circus and various community events. The warm weather brings out picnickers and families, the environment is warm and friendly and you don't have to worry about finding a place to sit or competing with groups wanting to play a game of rugby or football. Clissold is an excellent community park. It has all the amenities a park should offer, including a football pitch and tennis courts. I use the park when it's warm and when it's cold and I'm not alone in that regard.

Very child-friendly - its always filled with kids running around on the weekends. There's a lake in the middle of the park. Works included the re-establishment of the original vistas from the Manor House, the introduction of a walled flower garden, the restoration of the lake and installation of a fountain. In addition the original ice-house has been restored and is open to the public on request. Other new features include a popular cafeteria, multi-sports ball court and tennis courts as well as a children's playground. It's truly lovely - great playground, a wonderful cafe that also sells handmade wooden toys, a farmer's market every first Sunday of the month and a lovely duckpond. Perfect for riding bikes and scooters. The cafe is situated right next to the playground so the grown ups can sip cappucino while watching the little uns on the swings, slides and climbing frames. Also recommend the crepes - yummy! I can't believe it's took me so long to find it. A real gem.

Denying Nonsuch Park a glittering 5 star review would be like denying my childhood. I am hugely…read morebiased when it comes to Nonsuch as my whole life has been so intrinsically linked with it and played out within its parameters. I don't want to sound soppy or cheesy but some of my earliest memories were in this very park: learning to ride my bike and walking our family dogs. I went to secondary school right here in the park (Nonsuch High School) and had our ball (or 'prom' as the new kids call it these days having stolen it from Glee and other American programmes) in the Nonsuch mansion house. Don't tell anyone but it's also where I had my first kiss! In the 16th century Henry VIII, the old rogue, built Nonsuch Palace here, which is where the park gets its name. It stayed in royal hands until Charles II gave it to Barbara Villiers sometime in 1670 and she demolished the palace and sold off the parks to pay off her gambling debts - hmmm, perhaps not the kind of person you should be handing palaces out to, eh Charlie-boy? Only remnants of the palace are left today. This is a HUGE and beautiful park with big open spaces great for dogs, a few dog-free cordoned-off picnic areas, a big mansion house where you can get ice-cream in the summer months or a cup of tea when it's chillier and even a big pond (if you can find it) where as kids my sister and I would come to look at the frog spawn (I have no idea why we found it so fascinating). Round the back of the mansion house there are some beautiful landscape gardens making it a popular spot for weddings. I've also attended a classical music evening in these gardens where you take your own picnic along and it was lovely! Well worth a visit if you're in the area and should be a regular feature if you're a local. I'm telling you, there's 'none-such' like it!

The food…read morehas improved and they now serve plenty of great food but, because you are a captive audience, the prices are slightly higher than the food deserves. Of course, they have to cover their costs for running throughout the year not just the summer months and so I pay the extra - but if the prices went up much more, I would start bringing food and having more picnics in the house grounds.

(Queue the manic photo uploads...) Nestled right up against Hackney City Farm, what immediately caught my attention was the perfectly green, perfectly groomed, perfectly flat grass field. For a former soccer player, (yes, I played the sport in America, so it's soccer - thank you) there's not anything quite as beautiful as a pristine empty pitch. Ask anyone... it's like heaven. Rounding a corner I found rose gardens, a ping pong table, some sort of monkey bar/crazy wooden workout contraption, a basketball court, tennis courts, turf fields, a kiddie play thing, even a BMX track. The whole time I had to keep reminding myself that I'm smack dab in the middle of Hackey... a council known more for their estates rather than their pristine green spaces. Well I'm all for it - 5-stars galore for Haggerston Park. Trust that you will find me here often from this point forward.

It is extremely popular with young families, but it is also well visited during summer days by a wide range of people. At one end is a small meeting room, with a small kiosk adjacent, serving snacks and drinks. Although the park is under the care of Merton Borough Council, who maintain the lawns, the planting is maintained by a group called Friends of South Park Gardens, organised as a charity. During the year, there are normally a number of specific activities including a summer picnic and fireworks in November. These are very popular and by ticket only. A lovely spot to visit during the summer lunchtime!

There are always pretty flowers and the grass is kept litter-free and well mowed, so it's comfy to sit on. We didn't eat there, but the food looked really good and they had lots of tempting-looking dessert items. Also, the people working behind the counter seemed very friendly. The park is quite popular with people living nearby; there were huge numbers of dog walkers, people walking with their young children, and some bike riders. Of course, it was a Saturday - but still....another nice thing is that the park is beautifully-maintained.
