Has two 18 hole courses - East and West spread over four sections of land. For tournaments only one main section is used - making up the Composite Course. The West Course is definitely superior, has most of the holes of the composite layout and the front nine of the West has a stretch of five or six holes that are world class. Noted for its large bunkers and fast greens it is a masterwork of noted course design legend Dr Alistair McKenzie. Interstate or overseas players may be able to get a round with a letter of introduction from their club - sent well ahead of time. The course is well-treed but maintains something of a links feel as it is built on ancient sand-dunes that are now well inland. I was a caddy at Royal Melbourne for four years but actually rate Kingston Heath and Barnbougle Dunes as better course designs overall (and The Dunes at Rye remains my favourite all time course).

Very pleasant mid-week to have nine holes and then go to one of the cafes nearby to talk about the triumphs of the round. The course has changed somewhat over the years, originally starting its life as a converted waste tip, it is now a par 69 course, with fairly forgiving fairways. The greens have been a little slower of late, but without too much roll, making most greens a 2 putt. This is a good course if you're clubs have been in the shed and you need to dust them off. You can still be a hack and shoot a respectable score.

Well, okay, I thought the kiosk was a little tacky, but once you get outside, well, it certainly ramps up its impressiveness. You can either play mini-golf, or go on the driving range, and since I have no interest in seeing how far I can hit a ball, we went to the mini-golf. I must admit, that it is hard, but it is also pretty fun as well. In fact, there are two options you can take as well, the one in the shade, and the not so shady one, which means that if you finish one, well, you can then go and do the other one. Faces south so think about where the sun will be before you go or go with good sunglasses. Has a large staff of teachers and is a teaching base for one of the golf associations. Has a small synthetic putting green that is super quick and a larger grass green that is very rough and slow at the moment (March 2012). The balls are yellow and a bit harder than you might like. It is useful prior to play at the nearby Sandringham or Cheltenham public courses. I like it mainly for the ability to hit off the grass.

Higher still sits the clubhouse, which is converged on by football teams and their families and coaches come weekends. There is a football oval on the right and it is common to see kids down here practicing. Next to the carpark and furthest from the footy oval is a decent sized playground. It too was being utilized by a group of children - perhaps because of school holidays, I'm not too sure. Either way the playground looked good enough to warrant decent popularity. There are a few different ways to enter the park on foot and there are walking tracks provided for convenience. I really liked that there was a row of pine trees lining the edge of the park and separating it from the road. It made the park look a lot nicer and contributed to its more upper class feel - well as upper class as a park can feel when there are kids everywhere. It is a nice place for a walk, and great if your personal trainer has told you to find some hills to run up - yep, that was the reason I was there. Warning - there are some real calf-killing hills so I wouldn't let your personal trainer find out about it or you'll be there faster than you can blink!

Morack Public Golf Course is a great place for a hit on the weekend (or weekday, if you're lucky…read moreenough to be able to do it), and it's really good to be able to get outside and pretend that I know what I'm doing every time I pick up a golf club. It's an 18 hole course, well kept (especially considering the drought-like conditions of the previous few years) and easy to get to, being just near the Bunnings on Burwood Hwy. There is a driving range near the clubhouse and shop (which is handy, as the old one was on the site that is now the aforementioned giant hardware monstrosity) and there is plenty of parking. Green fees are between $12 and $24, depending on when you play, how many holes you're playing and whether or not you're a junior. All in all, I find it a great way to give my friends an opportunity to mock my terrible golfing performance, and let's face it, if you need to get out of the house, Morack Public Golf Course is a great excuse for some exercise and a catch up with your mates.
