If you are not familiar with the Evangelical Free Church, it is a normal, mainstream evangelical church. No weird doctrines or anything. :-) Trinity International University located in Deerfield is actually a Evangelical Free school. The church has a lot of good programs and support groups for the community, too. The congregation, I feel, is a pretty good mix - it's not all rich, white North Shore folks. :)

The meals for the retreats are very good- great selection with a big salad bar, fruit, soup and then hot choices too. They have basic retreat rooms- very simple but I think they each have their own bathroom and the rooms were very clean. The meeting rooms are also good. Overall I highly recommend Techny Towers for a retreat!

Our family has been attending Willow Creek North Shore since 2008…read more The North Shore campus of Willow Creek was the first church that we visited after leaving a very small church in Evanston and, because of Willow's size, we came with a lot of preconceived ideas, all of which turned out to be wrong. We were worried that we wouldn't be able to find a true community, we were worried that we wouldn't experience genuine faith and growth and we were worried that the transition would be difficult for our kids....boy were we wrong! Our years at Willow Creek have been formative for our family, for our children and for each of us individually. Although North Shore is a big church, about 2500 people attend every weekend, we found that, with some effort on our part, a church with that many attendees can actually have an intimate feel. Through our participation in community table groups (groups that meet monthly to have dinner, hang out and build relationships), small groups, church wide events and service projects we have built deep meaningful relationships with people in the community. During the normal ups and downs of life these are the people that have shown up for us and become like family. The church has also proven to be truly invested in people having a genuine, deep, transformational faith. The weekly teaching, which is often shown on a big screen and takes some getting used to, is pertinent on both global and personal levels. Rarely do I walk away feeling unaffected or unchanged by what I've heard and experienced. Classes are frequently offered to help us grow in areas ranging from marriage and family to faith and finances. The church also encourages serving locally and globally. At any given time there are serving opportunities as close as Evanston and as far as South Africa. This church and it's members are accepting of all people whether you consider yourself a Christian or not and it is really refreshing. Our families love to visit with us and even if they don't share the same faith that we do they always walk away feeling loved and accepted. One of the most vibrant parts of Willow Creek North Shore is it's student ministries. Our Kindergartener LOVES coming to church every week and she wouldn't miss it for the world. The really amazing thing is that our teenager feels EXACTLY the same way. The strong sense of community, acceptance and belonging that the kids have at Willow has proven to be a great source of strength and growth for them as they navigate all that comes with growing up. If you are looking for a church with deep community, excellent teaching and programs and an A+ children and student's program, give Willow Creek North Shore a try.

It was wonderful , the people were great and God is there. I love the lord even more for showing us a glimpse of how heaven will be. We have food , i don't know what that meat was but it tasted like spaghetti and BBQ chicken and sugar meat. We really enjoyed ourselves and will be returning.

The church is filled with people who truly care about creating a supportive community. Of course, there is Lucas - the pastor. He is amazing. St. Gregory's Preschool (located in and affiliated with St. Gregory's Episcopal Church) is a…read moretotally awesome preschool in Deerfield. I can't say enough good things about it. And besides being an awesome program, their tuition can't be beat (it's quite a bit less than most other preschools in the area). My 2 daughters attend - they love it. It is a smaller school with very personalized attention. The teachers/director are so nice, caring, and nuturing (and super smart!). I believe they all have their masters. The program is a great balance of play time, hands on learning, small and large motor development, etc. They incorporate lots of science and math besides the usual reading and writing. The teachers/director have good control of the classroom and are consistent and fair, teaching the kids good social skills. The program is Christian-based, but they keep things Judeo-Christian from what I can tell. They celebrate the Christian holidays, but they are cognizant that not all the students are from a Christian background and are respectful of that. The preschool program is a morning program and they are open 5 days a week. You get to decide how many days (and which days) your child will attend. Potty training is not required, though they can't change diapers (they are currently DCFS certified). They also have Kindergarten enrichment in the morning and afternoon. In the morning, the kids of all ages are together; they split into skill level for letter-writing, etc. That really seems to help with the building of social skills. My girls love it that way.
