We enjoyed our afternoon at the Kingwood Center. The staff and docents we spoke with were friendly and knowledgeable. We especially appreciated Julie, the receptionist, rounding up some sandwiches for us (They're transitioning to a new food vendor, and the grab-and-go case was nearly empty when we arrived.). We brought our sandwiches out to the gardens, where there are many seating areas with nice views. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated, a window into how this wealthy industrialist lived in the last century. Pam, the docent at the front desk, was full of interesting stories about the family and the house. We were surprised to learn from her that the curtains at the front of the house were the originals from the 1920s. With high ceilings and huge windows, every room has a beautiful view, even the servants' areas. I found the kitchen especially interesting. If you plan to visit Kingwood with small children, I recommend saving the mansion for another day. The beautiful staircase (faux painted with a feather!) has a low railing and wide spaces between the balustrades. It would be easy for a child to slip through and fall to the terrazzo ground floor. read more

Beautiful gardens, house, and visitors center with special events throughout the year for Halloween, Christmas, special art installations, etc. Free admission for NARM members and members of conservatories outside of Ohio. The current (summer 2026) art installation is particularly nice - the perfect scale for this very manageable place. The gift shop also has an excellent selection of both annual and perennial plants for sale, including many varieties featured in the gardens. read more

Pleasant surprise! I took my 3 kids to check out the Lego sculptures and was surprised by how kid friendly and enjoyable the experience would be. You start off in the entrance/gift shop. There is a small room that has a timeline mr. king and his life/home. You walk out the door and into the gardens. The gardens are all well maintained and beautiful to look at. The kids enjoyed the sculpture surprises along the way. As well as the strolling peacocks around the gardens. We took a tour of the house and the kids enjoyed checking out all 3 levels. I enjoyed reading about the rooms and the history of the house. They have a great indoor and outdoor kids area that the children enjoyed. The greenhouses were unique in the one was very old and the other more modern. A nice selection of plants and a few surprises with the carnivore plants display as a favorite. You end up by the duck pond. Even with the rain we all had a great time. I recommend about two to three hours to enjoy. You can easily take longer and they had a great little cafe at the entrance with indoor and outdoor seating. read more

The wife and I have been wanting to come here for years but just never got around to it until this week. I'm truly sorry that we didn't make it here sooner. The site is the former home of Mr. King who was the head of Ohio Brass. He donated the site to the City of Mansfield upon his death. A key part of the site is Kingwood Hall, his former home (mansion), which is absolutely beautiful and overlooks the gardens. The house is open for self-guided tours and we were told that there are guided tours at various times. There are signs in each room identifying the room's use (ballroom, Mr. King's bedroom, dining room, etc.) and whether the furniture is original to the house or authentic to the period. The house is a MUST-SEE part of a visit. We were here in EARLY SPRING and there were a lot of early spring flowers like daffodils and such. We were here in mid-April which was about 2 weeks too early for the tulips. There were literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of tulips ready to bloom. There are a number of gardens on the self-guided tour and you can also visit the greenhouse which has some really beautiful displays. Again, I would include the greenhouse as a MUST-SEE part of your visit. Now that we've finally made it to Kingwood Gardens, we're already looking forward to another visit at a different time of year. read more

Mansfield has more than the famous prison from Shaw Shank Redemption. If you like botanical gardens, this place is a must. This garden or botanical garden is spectacular. I live over 2 1/2 hours away, so dont get here often. If i lived within an hour, I'd buy a seasons pass and come regularly to watch the changes a few weeks can make. The staff here do a great job keeping everything groomed and lovely. Right now they are featuring large lego sculpture thoughout the garden, which is popular with kids of all ages. The kids are particularly excited to run around trying to find them all. There are tons of flowers, plants and various gardens, some fountains and water features and statues. Appreciate lots of seating and places to relax or read enjoying nature. There are building with more plants. Couple places with bathrooms and they are in great condition and smelled lovely. I enjoy playing with my camera ... spotted butterflies, peacocks, ducks, hummingbirds, woodpecker. Lots of bees and of coursetons of plants. Bees didnt both me, but if you are allergic or have a phobia ... this may not be your thing. I am attempting to get pics similar to 9 hummingbirds... they were everywhere and posed perfectly with various flowers. At the end of the day i learned my sd card was dead, so I'm not sure i will be able to salvage any of it. I spent the end of the day yesterday and came back today trying to get similar pics. No hummingbirds yet and its been 4 hours. I am sitting on a bench by the area they hung out all day yesterday. Maybe all the nectar in those flowers are gone. But i see new things every visit. There is a small fee unless you're a member .. i think 8 dollars for single visit. . I think it was 5 when we came 2015, so very reasonable. Id recommend a hat or sunvisor. Sunscreen. Bug repellent. They have water fountains and water bottle refill stations. They do have small cafe and a machine with drinks and snacks. In warm weather, neck fans ... they are a life saver. Of course your camera and definitely comfortable shoes. Great places to take pics. I think they even rent areas for events. Great visit. Highly recommend. read more

If you live in Ohio and love flowers, this is a must do for your bucket list. The grounds are truly stunning. Parking is free and adult admission is $8. Onsite there is a cafe, Kingwood Hall museum, gift shop and all kinds of gardens on the property. You may even encounter a few peacocks. Make sure to see the terrace garden, perennial garden and rose gardens. The duck pond is currently under construction. The cafe has surprisingly good food and a beautiful patio (with umbrellas for shade). They also host a number of seasonal special events. I would love to see the property decorated at Christmas time. read more

This is a great place to visit. It is about an hour from Columbus, so not too bad. Love that it was only $8 per person, making it an affordable day trip without breaking the bank. I thought the grounds were really nice. My son loved walking around the whole place. The green house has some very beautiful flower, plant, and cactus varieties. I observed some unique plants throughout the gardens. I will definitely go back here. A beautiful place for photography as well! read more

This has to be one of my favorite outdoor spaces to explore in Mansfield. Kingwood Center Gardens is the former estate of industrial magnate Charles Kelley King, and it is a garden-lover's paradise. Visitors can stroll along walkways that meander through seasonal flower displays, past bubbling fountains and ponds full of ducks (which you can feed!), and around giant trees and lush landscape. The wide trail is specially designed to be ADA compliant, so it's great for people who use wheelchairs or strollers. There are different paths to explore, and different gardens to see, each with their own theme and plants. As you walk along, look for the Storybook Trail, which is a path of picture book pages along a trail leads you on a literary adventure. Don't miss checking out the greenhouse, which houses the garden's tropical and desert plants. You'll see lots of cactus, succulents, ferns, and many heat-loving plants and flowers. Tours are also available of the Carriage House, the mansion that sits on the garden property. You can request a guided tour, which will get you into some places in the house that most people don't see, or just do a self-guided tour. Either way, be prepared to see some amazing architecture, furniture and appliances from ages past. You can grab a bite to eat at the Gateway Cafe, which is located inside the garden's visitor's center. The cafe has lots of kid-approved goodies, including dirt and worms pudding cups -- how appropriate! Honestly, the food at this cafe is way better than it needs to be, and it's relatively inexpensive, too. My kids loved the strawberry milk, which is from a local dairy and comes in bottles. (They also sell orange milk, too! I've never in my life seen orange milk.) In the visitor's center is where you'll see the gift shop, where you can buy plants to take home, among other things for the garden. One really neat thing is that we saw some peacocks exploring the area as we walked around. They were just chillin', and one even came to visit the cafe's outdoor seating area while we were there eating lunch. It was awesome to see such beautiful birds up close. Kingwood Center Gardens is $5 for adults, and kids 12 and younger are free. They often have events here, like a pumpkin glow walk and events during Christmas. read more

$8 to get in. Large garden areas and an impressive house to explore. Lots of statues, hedges, and more of that manicured garden experience. Peacocks may join you in the gardens or on the cafe's patio! The house is certainly worth spending 10-15 minutes on a self-guided tour. And it's so nice and cool in there. Minus one star because their cafe was closed, so we arrived famished to leave famished and arrive again famished in 15-20 minutes with takeout we'd picked up. read more

The Kingwood Center features 47 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits. The full time professional gardening staff keeps the grounds in bloom April to October. The greenhouse always has plants to view. There is a large mansion which was build by an industrialist in the 1920's. They have recently completed a new event center that can handle several hundred guest with a large kitchen for meetings, parties, weddings. They garden crew created an area specific for weddings. Whether you are coming to view the flowers for plan an event this is a top choice for your consideration. read more

It's a really lovely space. I didn't know what to expect, but my expectations were blown away. The house was open for a self guided tour. There are some signs that explain the various rooms you are looking in. There is also a volunteer in the lobby if you have questions. You can wander around the 1st and 2nd floor on your own. I will return on Friday or Sunday at 11 or 1 to see the 3rd floor on a guided tour of the house. Reservation required ($). The house is small, but was an enjoyable visit. The gardens surrounding the house are beautiful. They are also on the smaller side when compared to other arboretums or botanical gardens, but they are all very well done! I went in late June and everything was fully in bloom. The greenhouse was open as well. There are various water features throughout the garden and should you have more time on your hands there are various shaded benches throughout the garden for you to relax. The paths are all easy walking for all levels and are a mix of brick, asphalt, grass or dirt. For just $5 admission this place is a steal and a hidden gem. read more

During a recent trip to Mansfield we visited the Kingwood Center Gardens. This is a beautiful garden in the middle of the city. We heard from friends that this was a great place to visit and they were correct. The grounds are beautiful with so many different types of plants and flowers. The house on the grounds was open for self-guided tours which we really enjoyed. We also saw the peacocks that roam the grounds which was very exciting. At the end of our visit we stopped at the gift shop where we purchased a plant to take home and had lunch at the café which was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend stopping by if you are in the area. read more

A ride down 71 brings you to this gem of a garden in Mansfield. Well manicured and easy for walking, Kingswood is a nice getaway for flower and fauna fans of all ages. OMG this is a hidden Ohio gem. Gorgeous Art Deco period mansion built by Ohio Brass Co. Mogul. Almost the entire house is open to tour. We were told that at Christmas, every room has a tree on display. Have, have, have to go back then. The entire interior is in great shape, lovingly preserved. Marble inlays on the grand staircase, original appliances in the kitchen and most of the actual furniture remains intact. Move to the gardens, which are the real highlight of the place. Don't rush through! Follow every little path, no matter how unimportant it may seem because it will lead you to some magical little grotto or a romantic nook built for a rendezvous. Simply incredible. The plant variety is crazy. So many different varieties, fountains, gazebos, ponds with ducks, statuary and sculpture. It's like a private botanical garden. Greenhouse with shop where you can buy plants You can hold events here. The original carriage house has been renovated as an event center. They do lots of weddings and have full catering facilities on site. Many special events throughout the year. Big Pumpkinpalpoza coming up for Halloween I recommend checking it out. read more

Absolutely beautiful! A wonderful place to take little ones. We took our 16-month-old. There's a duck pond; bring quarters to feed the ducks. My son loved it!! The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful! So many gorgeous flowers and plants to see, you could easily spend a couple hours here. The greenhouse is really cool too - beautiful cacti, plants, & flowers, plus some for sale! $5/per car entry. Your paid entry allows you $5 off a $25 purchase in the greenhouse. We live out of town, but if we lived local I'd go back every season! Can't wait to take my son back here! read more

The other review is way more detailed than mine. Just make sure if you go, save it for a nice day, and I'd DEFINITELY go later in the season. When I went a few days ago (middle of May) everything was being fixed. People were painting the doors, planting tulips and other flowers, and there was a lot of fences up for construction. I can tell how nice the place WILL be once it warms up and all of the right flowers are planted and everything is blooming. It's really cheap for 5 bucks a car, which is not bad at all. I'll have to come back later in the summer when more plants are blooming so I can give a better review. Your receipt to get in for parking also gives you five bucks off $25 at the gift shop. They sell a lot of flowers and stuff, but it's kind of small. read more

The lakes and fountains are pretty as well. 10-2 weekdays you can walk through the home on the property too. Check out the green house! Excellent gardens at only a pittance for admission. These types of curated gardens have the benefit of a lot of resources being put into them. Lots of variety and lots of flowers here when I went in Spring. You can easily spend several hours walking around the entire place. I understand you can go inside and tour the mansion, but it was closed when I went. Don't forget to look for the peacocks in the south western area! read more
