The staff were friendly, despite losing our order in the system and needing to have it parroted back to them so we could pay. Avoid.

Arrived at around 6 on Friday night, the drive up went ok although I'm sure the satnav screwed us as per usual. Annoyingly the onsite parking at the hotel was full, both front and back, after circling the place like parking space eating vultures we gave up and parked at a free car park along the road behind the Co-op. It didn't look all that secure but we had no problems, other than a wee walk to the hotel, which probably was similar in length to the walk to the back car park. The hotel is quite big and has lots of rooms on different levels even on the same floor. Potential difficulty for older people with heavy bags I suppose. The hotel was nice, not dated, but not new, the room was nice and clean if a little small, though it did have a fairly large T.V. The spa part lied and said it had a steam room, which it didn't but it did have a sauna. Some of the signs were misleading, like the one to the pool which we couldn't actually access, instead you had to go through the bar and then the ballroom. We breakfasted here twice and had dinner once. The food was good but the service was a little slow on two out the three occasions. All this moaning, then why a 4 star review I hear you ask? Simple, the staff, they were absolutely great really accommodating, helpful, friendly and cheerful, they really helped to make this a good experience. We also booked hot stone massages at late notice which and they were as accommodating as they could be in this respect. If I was up this way I would be happy to come here again, however, had the staff not been so great then it was probably more of a 3 star kinda place.

Stay Away. This has been an unfortunate experience. We came to Kiriemuir to sing and celebrate a…read morefriends birthday. We checked into our room and immediately turned on the radiator. The radiator was broken I proceeded down to the very nice women at the desk she said "she would send someone up". We waited a good hour still no response. We went to the shower and opened the bathroom door and the room was so cold the steam set off the fire alarm. The porter came up and accused us of tampering with the fire alarm. My wife told him "the fire alarm is the least of the worries that we could hang beef as our room was like a meat locker. He looked at the radiator and said he didn't see a problem. The man left and a girl brought us an extra blanket. We finished getting dressed and went to our near by event. When returning to our room at 12:30am the room was colder than ever we could see our breath. My wife and I tried to find the evening porter but there was no one around nor a contact number. We ended up sleeping in a friends room I slept on the floor and my wife slept with our friend. In the morning my wife went down to tell the manager who informed my wife that there had never been a previous complaint and that she would talk to the owners. When checking out she told us that the porter told her we had the windows open. That she wasn't able to speak to the owners as they don't take calls on the weekend. She then stated it was my propagative to sleep on the floor. She said she really didn't care and if we wanted we could fill out a complaint form and she would forward it to the owners but there was nothing that could be done as there were no previous complaint. The girl that brought us the blanket told us she never new we were cold or brought us a blanket. The manager then stated she "really didn't care". To say their was an unfortunate experience is the least. I felt as though I was in the Twilight zone or in the movie the Wickerman. If you are ever in Kiriemuir stay away.

Heads down we marched on until the Airline Arms came in to view. Inside the welcome was warm.. The two female bar staff were friendly & helpful. Fresh decor, with clean lines. We opted for two coffee's with a well known Irish cream based alcoholic drink, all freshly made & served in tall glass mugs. Food is served at reasonable prices, whilst we didn't eat on this occasion, a quick look at the menu was delicious & affordable. I look forward our next visit. 10-10!
