Holiday Inn Express Hotel London-Newbury Park

Admittedly I'm no connoisseur of hotels in the London area, but I have little to complain about…read morethis place. We were a large group of over 130 and stayed 4 non-consecutive nights in double rooms. We got what we needed -- flexible checkin time, clean rooms with clean showers, hot breakfast in the early morning, lounge space for hanging out in groups. A little far from central London, sure (those zone 4 tickets are pricey...!), but at least the tube station was only a couple minutes' walk. My 2 complaints: (1) slow and unreliable wifi; (2) one liquid for shampoo and body. Note: I don't actually know how much a night's cost was because we paid a lump sum for the group to make reservations. My review is based on the assumption that it was relatively inexpensive. Note 2: some of my companions had complaints I didn't -- saggy sofa bed, broken shower head.
Why they have a Holiday Inn in Newbury Park, I don't really know. It's one of the great mysteries…read moreof life, although actually slightly less fascinating than how penguins find their way across the antarctic in the winter. Newbury Park is famed for its... um, McDonalds, and it also has a decent sized B&Q - but apart from that, there's not much to offer. The only reason to stay in Newbury Park would be when visiting for Christmas, but even then it would surely be preferable to stay at your Aunt Sheila's. See, the problem I have with the Holiday Inn is that it's just as expensive as the hotels nearer to Central London. Why?. There is no logic to it. Well, there is some logic, especially if you're a businessman in the hotel industry. But for the rest of us, it doesn't seem right. The hotel is nice enough though; sickeningly modern and perfect. Every room identical, every cup of tea identical, every hotel staff member identical. It's kind of nice and pleasant though; if you're on a road trip and fancy stopping by Newbury Park, you may as well stay here. On the plus side it has great access to the aforementioned Mcdonalds. A modern, clean and quite lovely - if soulless and typical hotel.

Plus, they have an all night snack bar if you need some food when you get in late like I did. Its also in walking distance from the subway and the ride to downtown London is only about 30 minutes (like 10 stops) and an all day subway ticket only costs 12.5 GBP! My room was nice, clean, and the bed was soft. The bathroom is a little small, but it is clean and nice! The front desk people were VERY nice! The girl who worked the desk in the early afternoon was so patient and answered all my questions about driving in London, using the subway, local toll roads, etc, gave me a nice map to get to the subway, recommendations, and was just overall, very helpful. I think her name was Alice :D Minor cons: The temperature regulator in the room doesn't go very cold, so I did have to open the window to get it cool enough for my taste to sleep and that made it a little noisy cuz its by the motorway. Also, they do charge for parking 3 pounds per night, but it is also gated for extra security for you and your car. Breakfast is not included. It's like 8 pounds. I didn't try it, I just went to the grocery store and got fruit and cookies :) I would definitely recommend Ibis and I would stay there when I travel to other places/countries as well!

They indicated that I had to arrange this myself. After insisting, they agreed and said they'd arrange this. I ended up paying £ 60. The final costs turned out to be £ 15. After indicating this, they stopped responding. They put the remaining 45 pounds in their pockets. Facilities: no hot water in the morning. There is a heating element in the shower itself. One day there was no water at all, so I could not shower. Toilet kept going and couldn't flush. Every morning I asked them to fix it. Same problem every day. Room: 7 m2 in size. As big as my toilet at home. As a hotel, I would be deeply ashamed.
