So I decided to suprise her, I arrived at hers in the Friday, she lives just outside Aberdeen. On the Saturday I suprised her again and told her to pack an overnight bag as we were going somewhere. Her husband drove us and her mum to the malmasion where I had booked her in for a girls night in. When we arrived she was like "no way malmasion this will cost a fortune" well for £84 each we got our room, mal munchies brought to our room, a cocktail and a cooked breakfast. Our room was lovely and had a great view of the city. The bathroom was so big that it actually echoed.. What was great about doing this was that we didn't have to wander about Aberdeen in the cold rain and wind to different bars or worry about how we were gong to get home. We brought along champagne for the room and relaxed in the room having a good catch up. Then our mal munchies arrived. We didn't know what to expect but it was lovely. Lots of small taster dishes which included, scallops, prawns, giant pumpkin ravioli, chips, potatoes, chicken, pineapple and chilli, crab and a creame Brulae to finish. After this wee got ready and headed down to the brasserie bar. The bar had lots of little areas so you can get some privacy if you want. It was cosy and very Scottish feeling with the decor, including sporan tie backs for the curtains. We enjoyed lots of different cocktails and when we were fine we headed back to our room. In the morning we didn't have to check out till 12pm. And breakfast was on till 11am so we got ready at our own pace and headed for breakfast. We'd had the full breakfast and you could help yourself to anything from the continental breakfast to. We then checked out. We all really enjoyed our stay here and all the staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful. They also have a spa but we didn't use this.

The hotel itself is stunning, the architecture is an undeniable selling point and really makes the most of the granite the area is famed for. Situated a mere 10 minutes from the city centre it's surprisingly tranquil and you can easily forget the hustle and bustle here. Our room was a great size, with ample wardrobe space (although not many hangers), a decent bathroom, handy coffee machine and an insanely comfortable bed. It would have been nice to have had a bath - there was certainly room for it - however we made the most of the spa facilities instead. On the Monday afternoon we ate lunch in the front bar and it was rather disappointing. With only one member of staff responsible for serving four separate rooms it took a long time for our order to arrive and it ended up arriving at different times. The quality was a little bit disappointing considering the price however the sweet potato fries are delicious! Due to a mix up with the order (twice) we somehow ended up with five portions of chips which seemed a tad excessive. For dinner we ate in the restaurant which was a much more positive experience. The food was really brilliant and the staff were much more attentive. The only downside to our dinner was when our order arrived it was not as requested - which had already happened twice at lunch - so it would appear that there is a communication issue between the staff and the kitchen. Normally we wouldn't mind however on this occasion it was due to dietary requirements and was getting a tad tedious having to repeatedly ask for things to be remade. My boyfriend and I both had massages at the spa which we both thoroughly enjoyed. The spa therapists were attentive, pleasant and clearly knew what they were doing. Whilst we were enjoying the pool there was a four hour long children's swimming class which was less than relaxing but difficult to avoid. Overall we did enjoy the experience but felt that the service didn't quite live up to the luxury atmosphere the hotel aims to provide. They did seem to be slightly short on staff so this may be the root of the issue! Would probably return again if I found a good deal.

Two had a terrace and one was on the upper floor. The rooms were very spacious, well decorated, and cozy. I appreciated the bottles of water, warm towels, and excellent food. Hotel staff were attentive and cheerful. The location on the River Dee was great, with excellent views. I saw several fish jump, and the fly fishermen were out each day. Upscale yet not pretentious. I would absolutely return. My only recommendation would be to add mini refrigerators to the rooms.

Excellent food all around from breakfast to room service, to the dining in the evening. Couldn't recommend the restaurant enough or the multiple dining area options. And most importantly; the staff and people that run Banchory are second to none. The service was amazing at every level! So very attentive, respectful, incredibly friendly, helpful, personable, and knowledgable. We had our wedding reception at Banchory and Scott and his team accommodated every request throughout the week and always went above and beyond. I couldn't recommend staying here highly enough or having your event/party/celebration with the team at Banchory. You won't be disappointed!

The Cove Bay offered comfortable rooms with great service, in a quiet part of town. The ocean is just a quick jaunt from the front door, and the surrounding area is mostly quiet neighborhoods. Downtown is only a 15 minute drive along the coast. Downstairs, is a restaurant and pub. The food was always great (place was always busy at dinner service), and the staff were friendly and attentive. After long days, sitting in the pub knocking back pints and playing darts was something we looked forward to. Really felt like home. I'll miss it. Highly recommended.

The only real gripe I can come up with for the room was it was hard to find electrical outlets. There's not one in the bathroom, there's a couple in the hall that are a tight fit because of the shelf, and the rest are along the floor. To get to the one under the desk I had to crawl under the desk. A power outlet or two on the desk would be nice. There's not any room service, but there's a restaurant on site with limited hours. Even during these hours it seemed sometimes hard to find someone in the restaurant. There's so many great restaurants in the area. Check out Nargile and Paldino. Next time I'm in Aberdeen, I'll gladly stat here again.

Alright, so I might've lied about the simple tastes. Regardless, Hilton Garden Inn at Aberdeen City Centre was an excellent place to stay for my trip to the Granite City. Clean, nice staff, comfy bed. My room had a rain shower which was awesome and a HUGE bathtub which came in handy when escaping the mid-50 degree weather of July (who knew those words would ever leave my mouth, err, fingers...). The restaurant on site has a buffet breakfast every morning which is very fresh and tasty. The location is also close to the hustle of Union Street and not too terribly far from Union Square, which seems to be the transpo hub for northeast Scotland. For the money, there is not a better place to stay in Aberdeen City Centre.
