But during my first visit to Mike's Models, I remembered exactly why hobby shops are so crucial to the craft of model aviation. I recently purchased two beautiful .90 size models, from the family of a Shawnee area veteran, now deceased nearly 15 years. While my past modeling experience has been primarily related to small electric park flyers, I was terribly excited to get these two 1/4 scale planes back into the air. After some online searching, I purchased some parts and radio equipment to bring these planes up to date. However, time after time I would receive an order of parts, only to find that I still needed an extra nickel or dime sized component to advance my rehab. When I finally made the drive out to Mike's Models, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did I enjoy shop talk with three experienced modelers, but Mike had everything I needed to get my project back on track toward completion! Following some light conversation about the equipment I had recently acquired, Mike handed me the parts I needed out of his current stock. No waiting for online orders, and prices were perfectly on par. After purchasing the parts, he was also kind enough to show me some interesting airplane build projects that he had in process. While I probably wouldn't consider this the typical customer experience, I can say that Mike is tremendously welcoming and genuinely excited about his hobby & craft. So you've always wanted to get into model aviation, but don't know where to start. You've read some blogs, bought a few inexpensive models from overseas, but haven't found success. It's time to confer with the local professional. Consider supporting your local model aviation expert and head down to Mike's Models. He has years of experience, plenty of stock on hand, and would love to share his passion for model aviation with you. Do it for the sake of the hobby, and do it for the sake of our community. But it is worth it cause some of the things you find there are amazing and would not find something like it almost anywhere else, I mean you can find them in maybe other places but all of that in one store all in prices you'll love the amount of vintage stuff that was there was unbelievable overall the store was amazing and so was the people working there and the prices, it's just an amazing place to shop. 10/10 experience.
