Two and a half months later I received a bill for an additional $928. The procedure initially went well, however while waiting for the initial treatment to complete I heard an audible pop from the treated tooth and experienced significant pain. Dr Ankrum was unsure what had happened, and his only solution was to delay completing the procedure another two weeks and to prescribe another course of antibiotics. Now several weeks after the procedure is complete I am still having intermittent pain in the tooth. I am going to have to find another endodontist to review the work, and hopefully one that will bill a reasonable amount and stick to the agreed upon fee.

It all started with the young lady Emily that booked my surgery. My schedule is not flexible due to traveling for work. According to my subsequent medical evaluations, critical parts of my skull base were removed, and muscles and tendons were disrupted from my palate and skull base--outcomes I did not understand to be part of the procedure I consented to. Since that surgery, I have experienced severe difficulty holding my head upright and breathing normally. Afterward, I struggled to obtain clear and consistent answers about what had been done during the procedure. While the School was investigating my concerns, Dr. Perez left the institution and relocated to Virginia. I was left trying to understand what had happened while navigating devastating physical consequences and searching for doctors who could help me. I continue to endure unimaginable physical suffering while searching for answers and treatment. Every medical appointment has become an enormous physical challenge, and I am deeply frightened for my future. Patients place an extraordinary amount of trust in their doctors. I am sharing my experience so that others understand why I believe it is so important to ask questions, understand exactly what a procedure involves, and seek additional opinions when necessary. I will continue asking Dr. Perez the question : Why was this done? Until I receive an honest account. Moving away does not erase the questions or the impact a patient continues to live with.

I had a consultation about 3 years ago. I paid what was due at that time. I ended up not going…read morethrough with the surgery. They never made any effort to collect any remaining payment from me. No calls. No email. No mail. No reason for me to think I owed them money. 3 years later, I need emergency oral surgery, for which I had to wait a week for a consultation. A day before the consultation the receptionist called me and cancelled the appointment due to small unpaid debt. She was fairly rude about it in a "bless your heart" kind of way. I asked if I get it squared up with their lawyer could we keep the appointment. She said no, and that they would have to get verification that the payment was made and after that it would be the surgeons decision whether or not to accept me as a patient. I immediately called the lawyer and paid the amount. They said that they were notified and tried to reach me at an old address. They never attempted to call. They never attempted email. They said they would let Roanoke Oral Surgery know the amount was paid same day. I might be a weird edge case, but at this point, I feel like Roanoke Oral Surgery mishandled the situation and I question their administrative competence. I am going with another provider, even if I have to wait longer. 0/10 - Do not recommend.
