She is the first one who I feel really listens to me and trusts my knowledge of my own body. She asks extremely helpful questions, and explains exactly what she is thinking and why. She is friendly, kind, approachable, observant, and very intelligent. She also seems interested in complimentary approaches and not necessarily just shoving pills down your throat, though she's perfectly willing to prescribe medicine if necessary. I went in last night and she spent 30-45 minutes talking with me and examining me. No kidding. In most offices you're lucky to get 5 minutes with the actual doctor! My husband and I have both been extremely impressed with her level of service and commitment to her patients. We have found our family doctor, for as long as she stays in practice! Also, for those worried about the distance to Point Richmond, we're in Oakland, and it only takes 15 minutes to get there. Very convenient!

When I first met her years ago, I had just survived being a medical experiment in Guatemala (now there's a story!) and was fully fed up with western medicine and its egotistical butchers, and had little faith or patience with its practitioners. On a whim I tried the naturopathic approach and she turned me around 180 degrees with the anti-inflammation dietary approach. Naturopaths know far more about healing systems and dietary effects than traditional doctors. They have "evolved" beyond western medicine. They are also not shy about using other modalities, they go for what really works. Dr. Karen as a practitioner is gentle and wise, patient and incredibly attentive and clear. Kindness just flows from her. She is the first doctor I have ever looked forward to going to see, by far. She has that special je ne sais quoi... I had a new patient appointment with Dr. Wallace at this clinic. San Pablo Rd (the main road…read moreleading to this clinic) was closed in one direction for over 10 min. so I was stuck. I called the Sutter number listed for this location from my car to let them know what was happening and they told me they'll let the office know and no problem. Sutter has a 15-min late policy which allows them to cancel your appointment if you're late. I walked in 14 minutes into my appointment time. After checking in and waiting to see the doctor, I was told that Dr.Wallace decided to cancel my appointment. I was shocked! I asked to speak to Dr. Wallace, but I was told she needed to leave early that day and was filling out paperwork. I waited to speak to the clinic manager and complained that my appointment should not be cancelled because a doctor wants to leave early on a Friday afternoon and that I was not technically late. She explained that I was late, because the checking in process took about 2-3 minutes. I had a time sensitive medical reason why I needed to see a PCP and waited weeks for that appointment. I was crying uncontrollably in the lobby and requested again to just speak to the doctor briefly, but she refused and did not care. It is a terrible feeling to deal with a medical problem and feel that no one is willing to help you. I cannot imagine that a doctor who treats any of her patients in this careless way can be an effective or empathetic caretaker. Obviously this clinic is pretty bad also from all the 1-star reviews.

We were charged over $500 for simple tests we didn't ask for and didn't need. In another case, we brought in routine camp health forms for my daughter. The front desk wouldn't accept them without an appointment. During the visit, the doctor confirmed the appointment wasn't actually needed for the forms, yet we were still charged based on minor concerns that came up in conversation. The doctor was kind, but unfortunately, the costs were never clearly explained. Both situations felt like "gotcha" billing... Originally this was a two star review, but I just discovered the bill was sent to collections - we've been waiting for Sutter to respond to my letter appealing the charges.

They charged me the $247 because the doctor wrote a prescription for a minor problem I mentioned that took less than 5 minutes. In fact my whole visit including the preventative care portion took less than 20 minutes. After much arguing, Sutter finally reversed this fraudulent bill. My wife and my children have all had similar situations where Sutter significantly overcharged us. Dr. Ram herself is okay, but Sutter Health is a fraudulent organization out to overcharge you. Stay away!
