This was a on many lists of places to eat and things to do in the downtown Billings area, but I was honestly afraid it would be like a studio movie grill or something to that nature where it was just overpriced food during a movie, that was far from it. This is an arthouse cinema, and the food isn't overpriced, and it's actually way better in terms of taste, quality, and service than the other "chain" movie & dinner cinemas. I also appreciated that you don't have to watch a movie to enjoy a meal there. There is a dining area in the lobby that is clean, sophisticated, and fun. The interior is really neat. It feels like a lobby of a movie theater with the black, gold, white classic colors with an art deco vibe. Some art houses are a little rundown, but this one is quaint and still trendy. There's a bar area, a typical concessions window, and an order counter. There's server will come to your table and take/bring your order if you're dining in. The bar has wine and local beers, and the concessions has popcorn, candy, etc Some of the foods are named and loosely based of movie foods, but some are just fun and delicious. They have an ice cream bar that was incredible. Also, they have season treats like a pumpkin spice ice cream bar The staff were incredible. Everyone was so helpful, friendly, efficient, and I could actually "talk shop" about film, and that was incredibly stimulating for me There are only a couple of theaters, so, there aren't very many daily showings, but they play less of the blockbusters and more of the films movie aficionados appreciate Some tips: Tip! The tips actually go towards the theater, maintenance, and restoration of the cinema. The back wall is painted like credits with the names being those who made major charitable contributions to the theater. But that doesn't stop the camaraderie, the everyone-knows-your-business, but not in bad way, joking about it all. There are daily deals for drinks. The food menu is as basic as comes: burgers, fries, onion rings, hot dogs, pizza, and quesadillas. The grill is there, off to the side of the bar. Pool tables, machines for the gamblers, and the music -- sometimes even live music. Pop's is a classic.

When you walk through, you can somewhat imagine what it must have looked like then, without asphalt streets and driveways- staff were also really sweet and shared more stories during the walk through as well. I've only been there over the holidays, so I might be getting a skewed reading on the place. I think they are calling this area south of the railroad tracks "Old Town" now, and in a decade or so this place could be interesting, though all the growth in Billings seems to be further west end sprawl. The usual video poker and keno machines line the wall, and there is a pool table in the back room. The requisite dead animal heads are above the bar also. Live animials seem welcome here too, with at least four friendly dogs spotted on the Friday night I was there. This included "Little Joe", a well mannered black pomeranian named after the Bonanza character. They had some Montana beers in the bottle, though the usual macro brews on tap. Stiff cocktails seemed the norm. The kind a place I hope can stay open until better times come to the neighborhood (like what has happened a few blocks over on Montana Avenue).
