We were wine tasting at Kismet, and decided to try their restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is date-worthy. Sit inside or outside with views of the vineyards. As we were seated, the hostess said, "Our menu is focused on quality, not quantity. " I thought she meant small portions. No. She meant a somewhat limited number of items on the menu. The portions were rather generous. We had samosas, and I'm not a big fan of these because they're often so heavy and doughy. These were light, delicious, and came with tamarind and mint chutney. I would have them again. We had the sablefish. It was a large portion, cooked perfectly, in a delicious sauce, and beautifully presented. It came with a bowl of rice. We also had garlic naan that we used to sop up every last bit of sauce. I had a tasty beer. We also had chai tea, and it was very good. We ended the meal with a gulab jamon trifle. I would probably have the regular gulab jamon next time. Passing through Oliver? This is a great place to stop. Local or visitor looking for a nice evening out? This is a good choice. By far our family and friends favorite winery consistently! The wine is so good and has a good variety on type as well as price points. We are primarily red drinkers so our notable favorites are karma and mocha. They also have two great roses and a beautiful bubbly. You really can't go wrong with any of them. We have done many wine tastings over the years and every time the staff is so friendly, educated and helpful. They have a very high staff retention which is a great sign and always nice to see familiar staff. It's fun the winery hosts a Diwali party in November and Holi in the summer. We went to the Diwali festival this last year and it was so much fun. We love the community aspect of the winery! The property is beautiful and their wine shop and restaurant are very nice. Luckily they are dog friendly in the wine shop and on the grass section of the patio. For the restaurant we've dined next to the vines which is just stunning view. The food is fantastic and has great variety. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Only con is that they don't make their own naan which is a shame but oh well. read more

Really really expensive, 4 of us was $350.00. The food isn't authentic, they purchase THIER nan bread from Gordon's food service. The wait staff isn't very interacting nor happy. We tried to get our server to smile but like she said What are you expecting I've been here 6 years!!? The menu is tailored to what sells and it tastes like it was also purchased pre-made. If you want REAL AUTHENTIC Indian food, there is a hole in the wall in osoyoos called AMBROSIA. WOW real nan and real authentic food including goat curry. 1/4 cost, get take out! We have eaten here on vacation a couple of times. Their menu and website take pains to show what items are GF, and which are not - like the naan and poppadums. The latter due to the sharing of the fryer with gluten items. The chicken Biryani is excellent, especially when you pour the Raita dipping sauce on top. The chicken pieces are high quality meat, and the spices are wonderful, including the cardamom seeds. read more

Food was ok but way too over priced, we each paid $100 for lunch! I can imagine there are not a lot of Indian restaurants in the Oliver wine country area and it was a nice winery where we enjoyed the tasting and each bought a bottle of wine, but the food was certainly tourist trap prices. We started with the paneer pakora $15 and as we went for a later than planned lunch, and after 5 wineries, we probably ate those too quickly. Then we ordered the Lamb vindaloo $36 hot spice level and it barely had any lamb in it. We also ordered the butter chicken $26 medium spice level but it was just average. They do not make tandoor naans as they served store bought naans which was disappointing considering their price points. Unfortunately my friend also ordered the samosa platter $14 raita $6 and a bottle of Karma wine $46 (which I also bought and surprised they have a mark up of their bottle of wine at their own restaurant) and we could only drink a bit and had to take some leftovers and our chais $10 to go, as we were too full. I could understand why the restaurant was practically empty and it makes sense they do not post their prices of their menu online as would be reluctant to pay this much for linner but was a nice way to end our wine tasting but kind of disrupted our dinner plans as neither of us felt good after the meal so was not sure if it was the food or the wines. read more

Sat down and ordered immediately, then proceeded to watch 5 tables who came in after us get their food. Mind you, we have a 1 year old on the verge of losing it at any moment. Samosas were really good. Butter chicken was fine (a little dry), but definitely not worth the $20 price tag. Were planning to do a wine tasting after lunch, but frankly were annoyed and lunch took too long. In summation, lovely patio, customer service left wanting, and mediocre (but expensive) food. Finally! An Indian restaurant in Oliver/osoyoos area. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the sunset. The waitstaff were very attentive and the food came out quickly. I had a light rosé, and they even made my mom a white wine spritzer We had a starter of vegg samosa and fried cauliflower fritters (aloo gobi? I think) And then we had the lamb. Super tasty and exactly what we needed! The naan was tender and perfectly blistered. Wish they had Peshawari naan. Love that! We will definitely go back. Hoping that the inside seating is warm enough in the winter, as it's a large space that's wide open. read more

Stopped here at the Masala Bistro for lunch. I was immediately welcomed and seated by friendly staff. I ordered the korma and went with the suggested wine, the karma. It was very delicious and the perfect amount of food. The wine was excellent, wish I went to the tasting room after but did not. My girlfriend and I were on vacation through Okanagan wine country. Over six days, we visited sixty wineries. You can follow our various locations with this disclaimer. That's sixty wineries, not an exaggeration. We ended the trip with 120 bottles acquired. It was fate, destiny even, that Kismet Estate Winery would be our penultimate visit on our second day of our wine tour. See what I did there? Yeah, I know, it wasn't clever at all. Kismet was in truth our first winery this day, but it had yet to open, so we ended up passing by on our way back to the hotel. I enjoyed Kismet immensely, for a reason which does not appear immediately obvious. In a sea of repetitiveness where the majority of wineries all share the same shade of mustard seed paint, I applaud Kismet for embracing a rusty red coat. It also boasts a very nifty logo dominating one wall, a cross between a skeksis from The Dark Crystal and the door-knocker from Labyrinth (double Jim Henson reference for the win). And finally, and I know it's not entirely appropriate to bring this up, the owners and staff are members of an ethnicity rarely seen in the region. The name of the restaurant, Kismet Masala Bistro, should be a giveaway. I think this is fantastic, a refreshing shift in both presentation, manners, and cuisine against the customary French/Italian fusions. Alas, the restaurant, presently open and welcoming, had yet to open last summer when we arrived. The interior is not as impressive as the exterior, just a simple bar with shelves of wine. However, it was here we discovered bead trails. Some of you laugh, and others need an explanation; basically, nearly every winery from Osoyoos to Kelowna sells their own uniquely shaped bead, which can only be acquired (so goes the claim) at the winery. Most are designed to relate to the winery in question--some even have two. My girlfriend, who was discovering quickly that she cannot handle wine in large quantities without passing out for eight hours and waking up with a chip larger than Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction, discovered her purpose. While I drank, she would collect these trinkets, probably the motivation behind visiting sixty wineries. From this point on, we wouldn't visit a location unless it had a bead, and would go out of our way, detouring for thirty minutes in some cases, to acquire a single one. Dedication. It started at Kismet. The problem was, it was the end of day two. It was 5:00, with most places closing at 5:30. And with that, we loaded into our car and raced around every winery we had been two in the last two days to pick up beads, a habit we would not break. As for the wines, Kismet is a strong player in the region, though I admit breaking from traditional in claiming their strongest bottles are their dessert wines. I mean, seriously, their cabernet franc icewine is to die for. So yeah, Kismet, great place with great people. Hit it up. You wouldn't normally think Indian food pairs well with wine, and you'd be wrong. It works. read more

I had called ahead to place an order for pick up at and arrived 10 mins early prior to pick up to only have the server say "I had told you the food wouldnt be ready yet you have to wait for another 10 mins" sure not a problem ..... waited and waited and waited .... Other customers came in placed order 30 mins ago and had there meals ready ... after 1hour and 30 mins from placing meal I had finally received my meal for take out ... poor service .. this hasnt only happened once but I have ate there before and server never came to our table for over 45 mins ! Apologizes and states no one told her about our table but passed us many times. Great food but HORRIBLE service !!! Only come if you have the patience ... or if you in for a gamble to see if they mess up. This restaurant is a joke. Step up your management ! read more

The restaurant attached to Kismet Estate Winery, Masala is a fantastic place to enjoy the scenery the staff and most importantly the FOOD. We went there to celebrate several birthdays and a graduation and were surprised by the restaurant manager Rose Ann with cards signed by the staff which we felt was so sweet and thoughtful. Sue was our server and made fabulous suggestions for items to share so we could maximize our tasting potential. We loved this restaurant, the food and the warmth of the staff. Last year had a great experience at the winery and purchased 3 cases assorted. This year the only person working the tasting was arrogant and rude. The counter was busy but he received no help from 2 younger guys who just sat in the corner. Consequently we only bought 2 cases this year. I'm sure the wine was as good as last year but the overall experience was not great. read more

I have always been a big fan of this winery for their non-traditional approach to wine making. This is a family owned business with extensive experience in farming so bring that base expertise but on top of this are working to create wines that match with Indian food. We have tried some wine and food pairings of theirs and have enjoyed them immensely but this was the first time we ate at their bistro and it is fantastic. We were there for lunch and the portion sizes were perfect for lunch. The flavour profiles are amazingly complex. The vegetarian dishes are very well done and worth trying whether you are a vegetarian or not. Above all try their wine pairings as that is what is really cool about this restaurant and don't be afraid of some of their unusual blends as they are very purposefully done. If you are looking for a great meal in wine country that is unique, this is the place to go. read more

No one asked how our food was when we eventually received it. They were busy when we arrived so we tried to be patient but by the time we left, there were only two other tables and the service had not improved at all. read more

Super disappointed in the Masala Bistro. We popped in here before driving back to Vancouver and ended up waiting a full hour for a mediocre chicken korma and average wine. There was only one other couple there so I'm not sure if no one was working or they forgot about us. Also, didn't really care much for the store bought naan bread. We visited Kismet while in town for the Half Corked marathon. We were a large group of 13 and didn't have a reservation, but were welcomed and treated amazing! The wine is incredible (2nd year stocking up!), but the food and the service were truly top notch! They went out of their way to ensure that one of the ladies with a food allergy had more than enough to eat. We will be back every year on our annual ladies trip! Now off to open a Moksha! read more

A lovely setting and some very drinkable wines but the food was just a little underwhelming. We started with Pani Puri Chat and some veg Pakora. The Chat was very nice but a bit off traditional. The Pakora, crispy and tasty but a bit indistinguishable. The chutneys were good. The disappointments came in the mains and sides. We ordered the Channa Massala and Mixed Veg Curry with the intention of sharing. To our surprise the gravies on both dishes were the same, the only difference what one had vegetables and the other chic peas. Both dishes were served with a side of pickled vegetables and rice. We ordered a side of Naan and for a place touting a Tandoor the Naan seemed like pre-packaged with no tandoor flavor and it was just two small pieces of Naan cut in half on each plate. We also ordered Raita which neither of us thought was very good. Having lived in India for 6 years has certainly raised our expectations for Indian cuisine but we have tasted better. read more
