Aside from loving Japanese food and Kitaro's decent quality (for a franchise restaurant), this particular branch is special to me. It's located right behind the office I worked at in Makati. It's my designated waiting spot for a cab when it's super traffic or if it's raining. I sit by the window, order myself a 50-peso miso soup or 80-peso tamago sushi while waiting, and I hit two birds with one stone: eating comfort Japanese while passing the time until my taxi arrives. (And taxis recognize this branch so it's easy for them to spot.)
It also became a reliable place to get lunch to-go. I usually get their ramen salad, where the soup is replaced by lettuce and vegetables. It's really filling and "clean," but quite pricey at 200 pesos to get everyday. Another one of my favorites is the spicy tuna sushi, also at around 200-pesos but big enough that I can't finish in just one sitting. (In my standards, that means it's really satisfying because I can usually finish my food.) There are a few ramen bowls you can't take out; for the quality, they argue. (Haha come on guys, that's a bit much.) Since my office was less than a minute's walk away though, I've had a few ramen lunches at my desk thanks to Kitaro. read more
