I needed to replace a large wooden front door and frame at my condo, the original of which (25…read moreyears old) had been frayed by termites and weather. I needed the door to be very close in appearance and quality to the original, durable and beautiful. La'aulani satisfied all the criteria, and the project came out beautifully. it was expensive, because it required a from scratch fabrication of a new door and frame (instead of a rehab of the old one), and painstaking removal of the old (complete with glass insets) and installation of the new. I was thrilled with the result, and all who've seen it are impressed. I highly recommend La'aulani for any projects involving woodworking.

This is a small family business that we have had two experiences with. Jay's daughter runs the…read moreoffice and is most knowledgeable and helpful in her consultations about the design of a kitchen renovation and tracking the process as it unfolds. Her husband and Jay's son in law is in charge of installation, and he and his team are courteous, competent, and thorough. On this second design and installation he returned to adjust the tolerance of hinge settings to assure a tighter close when he noticed mold on our glass cabinet doors. He took them for further treatment and re-installed them when that task was completed. We were fully satisfied with Jay's Custom Cabinets' first design and installation in our first home. When lava took that beauty and we found another, we, of course, turned to them for the updating of the kitchen of our new home. We experienced the same level of courtesy, competent expertise, and working relationship. Sadly and unfortunately, the pandemic forced the company to purchase wood from a different manufacturer and from the start Jay informed us of this. We were not sure why he did this, but now we know. The bamboo cabinetry which is beautiful is molding. Black and white mold on the front and back of the cabinet doors. They gave us a spray bottle of mold remover, but it is ineffective as mold has seeped into the bamboo and is no longer merely in the surface. We know that they sealed the wood and that they did the expected. But they refuse to consider their liability any further than this. They informed us that since we live in a tropical area with heavy rainfall, ww are partly responsible. But they ignore the fact that the home we bought is 26 years old, and its original cabinets did not mold nor smell moldy. Sadly, they are saddled with inferior wood to work with OR perhaps it's only the bamboo option that is questionable. We can recommend Jay's Custom Cabinets but beware of the poor quality of wood they are stuck with. Bob C

In looking for not HD cabinets I found Jay's. Robin greeted us as we entered their showroom and…read moreimmediately made us feel welcomed and valued. We were so impressed with Jay's that we ordered our new houses cabinets from them. Jay's took great care to make sure that the cabinets would be correct by taking onsite measurements and submitting very detailed drawings of the cabinets. Dates were agreed upon and contract signed. To our great surprise and delight our cabinets were ready early and I actually had to ask for a small delay in delivery, which they graciously agreed to. Day of install arrived and Jay's was perfectly on time. The whole crew were extremely professional. And I am the proud owner of not just cabinets but well built pieces of art. If your looking for quality cabinets on the Big Island do yourself a favor and go see Jay's Custom Cabinets.
