After we talked about the financial side of the lesson (bring cash), we went straight to the beach. The wind was not as steady as it could be for a good beginner's lesson. After trying to fly the training kite, Brandon suggested to go straight to the ocean with the real canopy. After explaining the fundamentals of the kite to me and setting up the parafoil, we were in the ocean within 30 minutes. I steered the kite the entire time, while Brandon held on to my harness and gave instructions. It was unbelievable how much fun I had. Brandon offered that I could continue to play alone with the kite in the water, but I was somewhat exhausted after two hours of fun. What can you expect? You can expect a really cool and knowledgeable (Kauai-born) instructor, water in your face, playing in the Pacific Ocean (Hanalei Bay), looking up at a kite for two hours ... and a ton of fun and excitement. Cassie, our dive guide, was a great instructor for my young girls (11 and 13yo), to quote my daughter, "I learned so much, but it's like she just talks to you!" I will tell you as an open water, cave & wreck diver that the quality of the instruction was appropriate for the demands of this dive, and excellent. Cassies attention to safety was fantastic, and I was impressed by her ability to give an extremely knowledgeable wildlife tour AND keep my crazy kids together and safe. We went on to get the girls their PADI Open Water certifications with Watersports over the next two weeks. We dove a total of 6 times - incredible Honu, fish, eels, octopi - rare species that are only found here on Kauai. JUST INCREDIBLE. The quality of the instruction and guide service was consistent throughout. I saw many other services there at Koloa - Watersports was not cookie cutter, and spared everyone dry lectures while they were stuck in their wetsuits in the hot sun. Scott was wonderful to work with when we started the planning process, as we were traveling with our 4 year old. Scott initially offered to take my husband and I separately down to dive while the other waited on shore with our daughter, which would have worked, but we chose instead to use Kaua'i childcare to have a nanny watch our daughter at a nearby resort pool via Resort Pass. We chose to do a private dive so that we could do two tank dives each (we dove together on both). Scott provided all gear including dive computers, masks, fins, snacks, and water! He had thought of everything to keep us comfortable and make the day run smoothly. The price was incredible considering the value of the experience! On the dive, we saw several green sea turtles, numerous types of eel including a dragon eel, probably up to 50 different species of fish including the rare fire angel fish, and an elusive harlequin shrimp. One of the best things about booking Kaua'i scuba adventures was that Scott was able to take photos of the dive for us and shared all photos and videos with us immediately after the dive! It was like hiring a private photographer on top of a dive master. 10/10!
