Dicke Wirtin was one of my favorite traditional German meals in Berlin and a restaurant I'd…read morerecommend without hesitation to anyone wanting an authentic local dining experience.
We ordered the schnitzel and the bratwurst, which came with cabbage and potato salad, and paired everything with a Berliner Kindl and a Pilsner. The schnitzel was fantastic--crispy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor--while the bratwurst was equally delicious. The cabbage and potato salad complemented the sausage beautifully, and I found myself piling both onto my schnitzel because they were that good! The true star of the evening, however, was the apple strudel. Freshly made, perfectly sweet, and easily the best apple strudel I had in Berlin.
We had a reservation, which I'd recommend since the restaurant filled up quickly during dinner service. The service was fast, friendly, and the staff spoke excellent English, making the experience easy and welcoming for visitors. Since it was a warm evening, we chose the outdoor seating, which made for a lovely dinner, though the indoor dining room has the cozy charm of a traditional German pub.
If you're looking for hearty, authentic German food done right, Dicke Wirtin is an absolute must-visit.
