I also enjoyed the beer called Fucking Hell, which was advertised as a special, also excellent value and very tasty. Then the bartender proceeded to tell me the funny story behind this beer and its name. All in all, a fantastic evening at a wonderful bar. I'll be back next time I'm in Berlin.

Eventually we all finished our drinks and we're about to buy another round when we were again confronted with the server's insistence that we order another round of drinks immediately or get out so, needless, to say, we got out. The main serving lady was actually (no kidding) physically pushing us out the door of their half-empty place. The time was 10:45pm and we were geared up to settle in for the night. They could have made a lot of cash out of us but, as we were made to feel so unwelcome, there was no way they were getting any more of our cash. That wonderful ambience aside, the 'live music' was essentially a dodgy karaoke guy singing by himself in the corner. The drinks menu was, shall we say, limited and the place was just generally a bit poky. Berlin has tons of great bars down the road in Kreuzberg so avoid this dog and head there.

One person in my party ran the marathon, and needless to say, they were very hungry. Between us, we had ordered the pig knuckles (it was huge - about the size of someone's head), schnitzel, and a meatball dish. We all enjoyed our food, and it seemed like it was a great taste into German food (can't be sure it is authentic since I'm not German myself, but judging by how everyone else in the restaurant was speaking German, I think it wasn't a tourist trap). The ambience of the restaurant was stellar. It was located on a quiet side street near a park, and a bit hard to find since it was off the main roads and was raining the night we went there. The walls of the restaurant were adorned with many old pictures and posters dating back to the 1930s or so. The restaurant had a front room, and also a fairly large back room that isn't immediately obvious when you enter. The whole feeling of the place was one of a historic, quaint old German pub. The feeling was magnified by the fact that the waitress did not speak any English, so you can tell that not many groups of entirely foreigners wandered their way over to here (luckily one member of my party spoke enough German for us to get by). The cabbage and potato salad complemented the sausage beautifully, and I found myself piling both onto my schnitzel because they were that good! The true star of the evening, however, was the apple strudel. Freshly made, perfectly sweet, and easily the best apple strudel I had in Berlin. We had a reservation, which I'd recommend since the restaurant filled up quickly during dinner service. The service was fast, friendly, and the staff spoke excellent English, making the experience easy and welcoming for visitors. Since it was a warm evening, we chose the outdoor seating, which made for a lovely dinner, though the indoor dining room has the cozy charm of a traditional German pub.
