I'll preface this by saying Krystal was AMAZING! You can stop here and hire her now if you want to save some time. Otherwise, read on... I have two small boys (4yr and 2yr) that are as predictable as Texas weather. If I'm lucky, I might snap 2 or 3 photos per month that I'd consider 'good'. The other million attempts are not even Facebook-worthy (and I have a very low opinion of Facebook). Having never hired a professional photographer, I didn't really know what to expect. Several questions swirled through my mind. Could a complete stranger hold the attention of two toddlers for more than a few minutes? Would my boys have fun and laugh while getting their photos taken? Was an hour enough time for all the different poses, scenes, props, etc.? Did I leave the iron on? Spoiler alert: the answer to all of these questions was 'yes'. I informed Krystal upfront that the photos were going to be a Valentine's Day surprise for my wife. Translation: I was going to have a lot of dumb questions for her that would normally be fielded by my wife. But Krystal quickly set me at ease by walking me through the process and sending me documentation that explained exactly what to expect and how to best prepare for the big day. She was very quick to reply to emails (always within a few hours and sometimes in just minutes). On the big day, the boys had a great time playing different games that Krystal came up with. Their favorite was trying to scare the invisible bird off of her head by growling. Some of the best photos came from those silly, playful moments. In total, she captured 50 beautiful photos, many of which will be hanging on our walls for a lifetime. A few other random thoughts on the experience... * If you're like me and a little wary of having your family photos on the internet, you can simply write 'decline' on the contract where prompted and the photos will be kept completely private. * If you purchase digital photos with printing rights, make sure to take the confirmation email to the print shop. These photos do NOT look like they were shot by amateurs w/ iPhones, so they will not release them until they see that email. * If you're still on the fence about hiring Krystal, JC Penney Portraits might be more your speed (cue slow eye roll). KM Photo studio is everything that I was hoping it would be, except much more. We set up our appointment which was super easy, we relied on her to place the backdrop of our family pictures with sort of vague details. She chose the perfect spots for the best backdrop. Now, I've spent literally thousands of dollars through the years with several different photographers, I never felt so comfortable as I did with KM studio, she set us in different poses that just felt natural, then to top it off, she was getting us to come up with ideas as well to pose, since I'm not a mannequin, I requested just natural interactions between our family. The shots that she captured were the perfect ones, laughing, conversing, just us being us in our happiest moments. Five stars plus for KM Photo Studio! Krystal did a mini session for our engagement pics and we loved those so we got her as our wedding photographer. She did a fantastic job from start to finish. She met with me in advance to make sure she had all my preferences and expectations in line. At the wedding she was on time, appropriately dressed, efficient, and almost invisable which is wonderful during the ceremony. Krystal had a sneak peek up on her blog by the time we returned from our honeymoon (less than one week from the wedding!!) and our entire picture gallery was up and viewable before our one month anniversary, two to four weeks earlier than promised! I love all 399 photos so I have no idea how to pick the ones to print and for our wedding book, but that's a great problem to have!! Thank you Krystal! The pictures where good she was a good photographer and would have got 5 stars from me, but we had our pictures taken a month and a half before our sons 1st birthday so we could use them for invites and mothers day cards and told her that. it took a month and 3 days to receive our pictures so no mothers day cards or invites. So if your looking for a good photographer and aren't in a rush to get your pics then I would recommend her. If you need your pics in less than a month I wouldn't recommend her. I'm not saying don't use her, but just make sure you schedule well in advance. Her timeliness was awful so One star from me since she didn't meet our needs like she said she could. Our sons 1st birthday was supposed to be special for our friends and family that live across the country and can't make it, but now we have nothing to send them. And are having to send simple invites to the people attending. Again great pics, but not what I was expecting out of a photo shoot. And timeliness was not what good. read more
