Chose Shaw because they were the cheapest out of 5 companies. After 1 month, I now realize why…read morethey're so cheap! My furnace has been clicking since day number 5. Their technician came out and was confident that it was a relay board. I contacted Shaw to see what the update was and when they were coming out to change the board. The wife stated she believes its the brand new thermostat that is causing the clicking noise. So who do you believe, the owners wife who probably only handles emails and phone calls or their own technician? So far, Mrs Shaw refuses to fix the relay board because she still thinks its the thermostat and what her own employee says is useless information. Remind you that he's their trained professional who does the installations.

The technician arrived right on time, diagnosed teh problem, and explained everything. He was professional and took less than 45 minutes to repair teh unit. I was very pleased with him. I received a bill for $757.00 and which included a $130.00 service call, which was slightly high in my opinion for 45 minutes of work, but I understand that charge. The 2 parts that were replaced were a combined $243.00. They were a capacitator, which I believe is a common repair in high heat and a Hard Start. I was able to fnd these on Amazon for less than $25.00 combined. Prior to writing this review, I called the shop and was told the high cost is due to the technician's knowledge and cost to keep parts in stock on the truck. I explained that I do not have a problem with an upcharge of an item, but their profiting was excessive. I also asked if the cost was for the technician's experience, why the $130.00 for the service call. I also used this company approx 25 years ago, and the tech lied to me then about the size of AC unit I had and needed. I could not in good conscience use tis company again

Do not sign a work order agreement until you're certain that you would like to get it fixed by them because they charge a 35% clawback on ordered parts, conveniently not mentioned by our service tech. The cherry on top was being charged the enormous clawback on parts before I gave verbal consent that I planned on cancelling the work order. Very shady way of conducting business!

I had a heat pump and it was replaced with an A/C only unit last June…read more (He said he didn't realize we had a heat pump but it would be fine) It ran non-stop for a month while I contacted him repeatedly and got excuse after excuse for why he couldn't make it when he said he would be there. He finally came out and told me it was still wired for a heat pump. After that the unit would freeze up inside and out. He said he would be out to check it....in July 2018, I'm still waiting. I got through most of the winter because we had a pellet stove. The pellet stove stopped working and we had to use the furnace and my electric bill was $500 for one month. And now it's freezing up again.

Back in February we had our AC and Furnace replaced by Backus Heating and Cooling (Company's name…read moreis now J & M Heating and Cooling). Everything started out fine until I gave them the required money to purchase the equipment. Then it was a challenge getting them out, always had excuses on why they couldn't make it or even better not showing up and not communicating. Quality of work was not to par, the pvc drain line had to be fixed 3 times first time looked like it was cut with a butter knife. They set the ac unit in place after cutting the old lines and never hooked ac unit up, they told me it's better to hook it up when it's warmer but they never capped the copper lines so moisture got into the lines. I ended up paying another company in May to finish hooking up my ac. I was suppose to receive a new ac pad, ac disconnect and ac cover which I never received, the other company that finished the job provided it. Backus offered a refund for unfinished work back in April but I have still yet to receive any refund. They will not reply to any of my recent communications. I know of one other family that is also very dissatisfied, I am curious how many others are going through similar situation with this company. So to end this review, I am very dissatisfied with my experience and quality of work from Backus Heating and Cooling. I refuse to ever use/refer them ever again. If you are looking for Heating and Cooling work use caution on who you pick.
