I hired him because an ongoing, vicious family feud between an affluent, non-related Step-mother/Step-Grandmother "temporary" Guardian and a blue-collar parent resulted in my being denied visitation with my grandchildren by the non-related Guardian for a year based on hostilities, power and control issues. During the hearing, it seemed to me that the judge had become disgusted with the non-related Guardian and the parent who both sought to slander and demean me because I am a Grandma that lives on a tight budget (an "Underdog"). MR. GUSTAFSON SKILLFULLY NEGOTIATED WITH THE WARRING PARTIES AND WE WILL GET TO HAVE OUR GRANDCHILDREN ON OUR LITTLE FARM FOR TWO WEEKS TO LOVE AND HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME WITH IN THE FUTURE. I hired Derick Allison to counsel my wife on a custody case filed under false pretense. Derick was…read morequick to accept and substitute counsel from a previous lawyer who wasn't as adept in child custody. My wife and I followed Dericks lead for the majority of the time he was representing up until court. My wife and I built a solid case against both opposing parties showing that not only did they lie about everything but that both parties have been doing things that the judge would deem unfit for a child to be involved in. I spent seven thousand dollars building a case to help my wife, emailing, pictures audio everything you could imagine. Derick at times would be more aggressive towards myself and my wife instead of the opposing parties which I seen as a red flag. He allowed interrogatories to go well beyond the time limit before submitting anything on the docket for the judge to see that the opposing party was not following the rules and procedures. Another red flag to me and my wife and I began losing trust in Dericks counsel. He was told on multiple occasions that my wife was not getting to see her son or even call for months which was against court order. He was given all information showing how both parties were in constant persistent violation of court order and again nothing was truly done. We had the law on our side, and all the evidence and it was time for court. My wife shows up to court and it just so happens the judge alloted only 2 hours supposedly for the hearing. So all the lawyers decided to do backroom deals whispering and coming up with some form of a plan. My wife specifically told derick we want to fight against the other parties and not make any deals. Derick was told directly what to do and he made deals anyways stating the other parties regardless of our proof and evidence would have got some form of what ever. My wife being fed up and feeling like there was no hope from her own counsel did not know what to do so she went with it trusting Derick. The order was wrote up and Derick sat on it for 2 months and did not sign and did not let us know there was some error. Instead my wife and I got extremely upset and thought we was being back stabbed like in court and when we told Derick we wasn't signing a new order he said we agreed and that he would file to withdraw as representation. I am leaving this review to let everyone know that Derick does not listen to what his clients tell him, and he does not defend his clients or at least not my wife. My wife deserved a counsel that listened to her and the law and the evidence and not make behind closed door deals we did not agree too and actually show the judge the proof and facts. If you're in a custody battle be very leary of Mr. Allison as he has lost all my respect and trust and his counsel will never be needed again into the future.
