The guys here do a great and professional job. The airport is growing from strength to strength. New departures lounge just opened which includes a new area shopping area. Parking ample, drop off at the door. A great service and facility that more people should use if starting a trip of Ireland rather than getting bogged down in Dublin. read more

I very efficient and small airport! It was clean, simple and direct. Far better flying in here rather than Dublin airport...obviously depending where your end destination is. They have free WiFi and even computers and printers to print of your plane ticket if need be. There are hire car companies and bus connection....there is NO train station. As soon as you get off the plane, you're in the middle of magical Ireland! read more

Proof that once in a blue moon even members of the clergy can have good ideas Knock Airport is unexceptional as a building but has been an economic godsend (so to speak) for this oft neglected part of the country. Originally sited here to cater for pilgrims it now welcomes thousands of the Irish diaspora returning to their homes. Arriving at the airport by plane can be quite an experience too and anybody wishing to imagine what landing on an aircraft carrier is like might get a better idea after touching down at the end of a wind buffeted approach! read more

Personally I think this is a great little airport. Very handy for central and west Ireland, and avoids Dublin. A new terminal is currently being built, which will bring facilities up to a reasonable standard - hence the 10 Euro Airport Development Fee. The beauty of it is though that it never feels crowded. Also when you arrive in Knock,you can get thorugh the terminal and out onto the road in no time at all, unlike Dublin. Sophistication will arrive there soon - Ryanair are still hand writing boarding cards! read more

My daughter's great Uncle designed and engineered the airport at Knock!You may have heard of the shrine here - It's Ireland's Lourdes and Fatima. It is a serious pilgrimage for the faithful and many look for a miracle.In 1879, a divine apparition caused this little place to become one of the Catholic Church's most holy of shrines. The sudden influx of visitors is great for the Vendors, but adds a touch of cynicism to the place.The story is that on the evening of 21 August 1879, in pouring rain, two Knock women saw a vision of Mary, Joseph and St John freeze framed in White light against the southern wall of the parish Church. Thirteen other parishioners joined them.A Church investigation soon confirmed this as a miracle, and quickly followed a number of Vatican approved miracles, such as instant healings. Modern worshippers have a chapel enclosing the scene of the spectacle. Nearby is the huge Basilica, Basilica of Our Lady, Queen of Ireland.There is a folk museum nearby.The airport is useful for the West Coast and the north of the Republic. read more

West Knock is a shed of an airport in a field, which presumably exists mainly because of the Catholic apparition described neatly above by Bluesofty.Now served by Ryanair, it fulfils all the requirements for the classic Ryanairport, i.e. small and remote. Though, as pointed out in the previous review - it is actually quite convenient for the West of Ireland and the North of the Republic. The perks of its small size are no queues for security, somewhere to park etc. The downside is that there's little to occupy your time either side of security.What has lost West Knock most of its stars is the "Airport Development Fee" of ten euros which we were charged upon flying home. This is compulsory, and there is a leaflet explaining why it is being charged, but despite the leaflet stating that they had "advised" all airlines of this levy, the first we heard of it was when it was taken from us at departures.Ten Euros per passenger is both a nice little earner for them and even more of a rip-off than the Irish tat in the gift shop you are thrust into straight after security. While I've nothing against paying a fee to help develop an airport, not making sure passengers are informed of this beforehand is out of order. read more

We love the north-west coasts of Ireland -- the rugged beauty of counties Mayo and Donegal is breath-taking in places. So I suppose we should be grateful someone built an "international" airport in Knock...However, as an airport it's certainly rather rudimetary. Facilities are spartan, and there's a limit to what can be achieved even by good old-fashioned Irish hospitality. The Airport Tax levied on us before we departed left a bad taste in the mouth, even though (if I recall correctly, as it was several years ago now) we were able to claim it back from our airline later.At the end of the day, I'm left in a quandary. Should I be angered by the poor facilities at Knock airport, or should I be grateful that there's actually an airport here at all? Travel to this beautiful corner of the world would be much harder without it...PS: Qype has located this airport in completely the wrong place on the map but I don't think I can correct that...! read more
