This landfill is very easy to use and the staff is friendly, helpful. They process yard waste into compost of different mixes and sell it for yard supplements at very reasonable prices. There is a camera showing how many people are in line on busy days. The prices are reasonable and it is convenient to use. I live 16 miles away but don't mind the drive. read more

There are a lot of things that smell about local government inside Bend city limits these days. Noting the saying of my Sicilian in laws roughly translated to English "A fish rots from the head down", I'll leave it to you to figure out were the stinking problems originate. That tangentially connected observation aside, this review is to say that one of the things that is fresh as a daisy in Bend is the landfill located in Bend city limits but run by Deschutes County. A dump and recycling center, it is a lovely drive in a location on Bend's east side with a view (go figure, efficiently run by friendly people and the fees are very reasonable. Open six days a week (Mon through Sat), the fee for household or construction debris is only $11 up to 400 lbs as long as the load is secured (as inside your SUV or truck or trailer). The vehicle is weighed on the way in and again on the way out and you pay on exit. They also take hazardous waste at a separate location at the landfill. They also accept yard trimmings and the like at another location. Those items are then turned into compost which you can purchase. Imagine that! Making something revenue generating out of the waste to help keep the fees low. Nice. A couple of times a year they have a day or two where yard cleanup / lot clean up items are free as a way to encourage fire abatement cleaning of spaces around homes. Nice again. Everything about this place is a top notch example for not only how a landfill and recycling center can be run but how to make a local government effort efficient too. And I'm not kidding when I say this...it even smells good here. We've made a lot of trips here over the years of living in Bend and having made several trips in the last two months as part of a project, it dawned on me a "hooray" was in order. It wouldn't hurt if the Bend City Management and a couple of his Department Heads took some notes and extracted the learning from how things are run here to apply to their venues. There are a lot of nice people that work here. I've never had a problem in the numerous times that I've visited to make a dump runs.

The landfill is fine , however the redhead in the weigh station is incredibly rude.

Yeah that's right, I'm writing a review of the local landfill. This is the world's nicest landfill. It's clean and well kept up, the staff are friendly and it's easy to get in and out of. Twice a year we haul several loads of pine needles to the Knott Landfill. They have a free yard debris week in early May and a half price week in early November (dates vary). We dropped off 5 truckloads of pine needles on Saturday and it was not only free they had staff there helping people unload. Don't burn your pine needles - take 'em to the dump. read more

Very nice landfill I may say!!!! it smells 100 times better than the city council and real estate developers ruining Bend. I see a smelly slum in 10 years, But the landfill will conquer!! read more
