Dr Benjamin examined the tooth and did appropriate tests to determine if a root canal was needed. Once anesthetized, he started and completed the treatment efficiently with the use of a microscope. He took an intraoral photo to show me the crack in my tooth. He answered my questions and provided thorough written post operative instructions. It was painless. You also had the option to be able to watch a tv show of your choice during treatment if you wanted. His staff were nice and gave me tour of the office.

He did a free x-ray for me which was quite kind and offered to do a feeling for me so my tooth didn't end up being lost for free which was also very nice. But when I went into my appointment they numbed me with the gel and then we're getting ready to put the needle in my mouth and I asked are you doing a block. He said yes I said I have a traumatic experience with a block please do not do a block. Insisted that it was the only way to do it and then if it didn't happen he wasn't going to do the procedure and instead of trying to console me that my experience wasn't going to be the same as other ones he just said well if it's not going to be done the work isn't going to happen so now I have to look for another dentist which is going to take over 2 months to get in and I'm probably going to lose my molar in the process. I feel in this aspect even though he was kind enough to do it for free which I greatly appreciate there was a lack of understanding and compassion. I thought this was my forever go to dental place and unfortunately I've been let down again. He even insisted that if they were to pull my molar they would have to do a block too and I said I've had two molars pulled and they didn't have to do a block and it went fine. So instead of trying to do it my way which is the way that other dentists have done it and it's been fine he wanted to do it his way. Or I don't get the care that I need and I feel that is the opposite of what health institutions should be standing for.

If you plan to come here for a consult, you will need to clear at least 2 solid hours from your day, if not more. And that 4 minutes cost me $89. I am here to prevent you from learning the same $89 lesson that I just learned. As soon as the dentist recommended full, unconscious IV sedation during minute 3 of our conversation, I knew this was not about me and my teeth but about dollar signs. I am upset with my general dentist for even referring me here!

This is nothing short of a billing game to charge $89 for an unnecessary visit and a complete waste of time. This is a clear example of why medical costs are so high. I felt at home since the beginning, which has done a lot to reduce any anxiety I had been having over the work to be done. The office is also technologically up to date with digital xrays, as an example. The doctor seems very savvy and knowledgeable, and is willing to offer good care suggestions and answer all my questions. I had good insurance so he kept me coming back and coming back, racking up charges for office calls and procedures I'd already had done, telling me repeatedly "We don't want to rush into this" when I'd ask him, "When are you going to treat my Thyroid?". Over a period of several visits with nothing being done I also developed Graves disease, and my physical condition continued to worsen with a weight loss from 175 to 142 in one month. Needless to say two days after my last visit with Meriden I went into a Thyroid Storm. My personal physician had me admitted to the University of Iowa Medical Center that very day, (their Endocrinologist said "I arrived just in time"). Thanks to Iowa City and their excellent Endocrinology Department I survived but my recovery took several months before I could resume working. My family physician actually apologized to me for referring me to Meridin.
