Like another Elite wrote, prior to my review, I didn't encounter traffic driving into the 'City of Valencia,' for the Crystal shop, 'Olde World Apothecary,' and 'Valencia Town Center,' for 'Sharetea.' The freeways I drove on were extremely widely open, barely had any traffic, was super free flowing. If I need to be out here for anything I might, but possibly not. I have pics stocked somewhere down camera roll, but will take awhile to locate them.

This may not mean much to non-local So Cal people, but a valley is not just a valley. Communities in each of the local valley areas are all different for sure and no matter where you go you have pockets of not so nice and areas of nice. So in SCV we have lived in Saugus, Canyon Country and now Valencia. Valencia is on the west side of SCV and where pretty much the most new development of business is being put in. Newhall is also part of SCV and there is a revitalization project going on there with new restaurants and a new theater. All in all I would say that Valencia is so far my favorite place to live in the SCV, for one thing I am now living a little over a mile to work, which means I can take my bike to work when I feel like it or going only very short drives to places that I like to shop (Trader Joes, Aldi...). The streets are very wide in Valencia (most of SCV included) compared to San Fernando and the traffic is almost nothing compared to areas of the other valleys. All in all yes, Awesome....! It is bordered by Mission Hills, Northridge, Granada Hills and Panorama City. It is mostly residential. Accessible to and from California Interstate 405, by car, bus, Uber/Lyft and other methods of transportation. Sepulveda VA clinic is located here. Mercados Buenos Aires is located in the same neighborhood. Seafood City and Barrio Fiesta amongst the famous Asian places are also located in the area. Some locations are used in various films like Terminator, Halloween, American Beauty, Step Brothers etc. Over time, I got acquainted with the area. I used to walk to the Olivo at Mission Hills when it was still not revamped.

When Alana said that she had tried to find this art installation, "In the Eye of the Storm", in the past and couldn't find it, I wanted to REALLY look for it. The most challenging part was parking. It's LA... haha... and the police were out and about, so we had to park legally ...lol! Alana had an idea of where to look, so, that helped a lot. Located next to the communication center for LAPD, it looks like an assortment of tall silver dowels surrounding a cylindrical compartment with a sliding curved door. There are many police codes for violations of the law on the ground and the surrounding walls have messages, too. It's a visual representation of the 911 system, showing an anonymous connection with The System which results in an empathic response. There was an eerie feeling as we wandered amongst the exhibit. I also felt more reassured that our police have a way to communicate efficiently with these codes and the 911 system.

The interactive space in The Connection symbolizes that fragile moment when the person in distress calls the 911 system, to make an empathic yet anonymous connection. People on either side of the panel can talk to each other an cooperatively interact and revolve the panel, but not see each other." In the Eye of the Storm is a thought provoking 360 degree experience that walks you through the heart of urban crisis management. As you walk through the installation, various police codes for issues such as "Missing", "Theft", "Mental", "Indecent Exp" and many others line marble tiles under your feet. A vortex with excerpts from 911 calls makes you feel as though you are hearing echo's of past emergencies. None of them are complete sentences. Shiny metal columns seem to pierce the pavement like barbs, adding to the feeling of anxiety the artist is trying to convey. Along the walls, words such as "Rescue" and "Capture" are etched into the cinder blocks like memories that can never fade. Adding to the even greater impact of this piece, it is adjacent to L.A.'s Parker Center, the LAPD's HQ from 1954 until 2009. The artists, B. J. Krivanek and Joel Breaux installed this in 2002. In 2004, three years after his death on November 29, 2001, to remember George Harrison, the city of…read moreLos Angeles dedicated a three foot pine tree in his honor in Griffith Park near the Observatory. Dubbed, "The George Harrison Tree," the simple pine was a special monument to a man who had not only spent his last days nearby in Beverly Hills but who also was an avid gardener and amateur horticulturalist. The little pine tree, which is centered in a circular space, is now over ten feet tall with a distinctively curved trunk. A plaque, set into three large stones near the base of the tree, announces it as "The George Harrison Tree" (in uppercase letters). The inscription, just below the image of a lotus flower, reads, "in memory of a great humanitarian who touched the world as an artist, a musician, and a gardener." Below that, Harrison's own words connect the memorial to its surroundings: "For the forest to be green, each tree must be green." George Harrison was a humble man inclined toward privacy and spiritual pursuits. An ostentatious memorial in a more publicly accessible setting (such as on Hollywood Blvd) would have been inappropriate. To have this vital, organic one seems, somehow, just right. That it is so inconspicuously set aside on the grounds of the Griffith Observatory right next to a common parking lot speaks to Harrison's unassuming character (and to his sense of humor). He would have approved of the tree's location. Indeed, it is easy to miss with so many taller and robust pine trees just behind it and with visitors preoccupied with disembarking from their cars and walking uphill to the Observatory. On the day I was there, many tourists and visitors, in fact, walked right by it without noticing it at all. There is no signage that leads people to the tree, and the memorial plaque is near the ground and out-of-sight. Furthermore, I didn't see any buskers or fans with guitars either playing "Here Comes the Sun," "Something," or "My Sweet Lord" (or any of Harrison's many other well known songs). Instead, with my own private thoughts and reflections, I enjoyed that pine tree in peace just as George, I'm sure, would have wanted it. Die-hard Beatle fans may very well want to make the trek to the Griffith Observatory to see Harrison's tree for themselves; and, when they do, they should be prepared to visit a most unremarkable sight...one that is "hidden" and "lowly" (and one that is faithful to the spirit of a great man).

I've been to the observatory countless times and still can't believe how many times I've passed the tree with no idea of it's significance. The tree is at the entrance of the observatory parking lot. It's on the left. It's more of a shrub than a tree at this time. I read that the original tree was infested with beetles, the irony. Thanks fellow yelper for the info on the beetles! If you're a Beatles fan, you'll appreciate stopping by. The observatory is a beautiful LA staple. You can make a morning/afternoon/night of it and soak in all the gorgeous views after viewing the tree.
