The views are beautiful, especially in the spring and fall when everything is green and wildflowers are blooming. The road winds through the hills, so you get nonstop scenic views. Driving with the top down and the wind in your hair makes it even better ~ super relaxing and enjoyable. It's the kind of drive where you just take it slow and enjoy the ride. There are several lookout spots where you can pull over, catch an amazing sunset, and later see Hollywood and San Fernando Valley city lights at night. Plus, there are plenty of spots perfect for Instagram ~ worthy photos. Definitely worth the drive.

I first drove up there way back in the early 90s, and I remember being totally blown away by how big Los Angeles looked from up high. I have been back plenty of times since then, and that twisty drive along the top of the hills honestly never gets old. Even though the world down below has changed a lot, driving that road still feels exactly the same as it did on my first trip.

By the time you're adjusting your camera and telling your family where to stand, it's already "okay time's up." Like... we just got here?? Honestly, I'd rather they charge more and give people a few extra minutes. Let us actually take it in, enjoy it, and get decent photos without feeling rushed like we're on some kind of aesthetic speed run. That said, it is a must-see at least once. Just go in knowing it's more of a quick visual experience than something you can really sit with.

On Friday afternoon, my family and I reserved tickets for the Infinity Room next to The Broad…read moremuseum in Downtown LA. Just a heads up, you'll need to book in advance if you want to secure a time slot to see the infinity room. We picked the 3:45 PM slot and waited about 5-10 minutes before entering. There's no food, drinks, or flash photography allowed (which makes sense). To be honest, I was a little surprised by how small the Infinity Room actually is. It's just a tiny platform you stand on surrounded by mirrors so be careful not to get too close to the edges. I think the photos online made it seem much bigger and more "galaxy-like," so I had different expectations going in You're only inside for about five minutes before it's time to exit for the next group. Still, it was a cool experience to check off the list and afterward we walked around The Broad, which made it a fun afternoon overall. I'm very grateful for the memories my family and I got to make together! Quick Note: If you get hungry, Grand Central Market is close by and has a great variety of food spots to choose from! This same sentiment emboldens risk-takers with a promise of safety regardless of the level of wreckleness attached to their choices. On the other side of the tortilla, we have the phrase, look before you leap, to empower the cautious with comfort that their spreadsheets and detailed- planning is not excessive because after all they cannot buy a car or a scooter without fully understanding what comes after the purchase. This same notion annoys the fools that rush because it reminds them that sometimes running without knowing what is in the dark is not just adreanline chasing but can result in being eaten by a big bad wolf or piranahas. I say all this to give weight to the following contradiction: some people have lived in LA so long that they believe everything has been seen and done, while other longtime Angeleno residents believe that there is still wonder to discover in LA's streets. I kind of settled into the I have seen much of LA, there is little to discover. And then I went to Barnsdall Art Park and i was reminded that LA's beauty is truly never-ending. I have never been to this park, even though I had heard it. And I know this is easily challenged and debunked but I arrrived to this place on the night I should have visited. Because when I went there was a celestial event viewing my stroll: a lunar eclipse. That is why the views were more than stunning, they were uniquely framed by what seemed to be an organge blood moon. But before we get to the moon, I have to discuss the parking situation. I saw an open space in font of the park. But I decided not too park there, LA parking can be weird with its signs. So I entered the park and drove around for about 15 to 20 minutes trying to find a place to park and then I did. It was easy but required patience and not exiting the purpose due to frustration. Patience is watiing, enduring frustration is intention. I walked into the park and the first thing I felt was that the air and sights seemed to be scorching quietly and without menancing intent. Like the air on top felt on fire but the fire did not burn, it was embedded into the early-evening-moment like patches of quilt sown to make two, one of the whole. Then I saw the steps that led to a gorgeous lush scene with those big tall trees that line a palacial walkway to the palace's ornate front door. The same kind of trees that kind of define Greystone Mansion. This was being in nature in a comfortable way. As I continued to walk I discovered the art festival they were holding in August. I am not recalling the name. But, as it was explained to me by a vendor, that it was PBS giving free airtime to folks and people could view the taping. Maybe I am wrong, but it sounded about right. There were also vendors selling items. One of them was selling taped recordings of his podcasts. Very nice market, I know. But he said that him and his partner discussed different funny stories, like for example a hitman was hired to kill some ducks in Florida. And he and his partner would make riffs off that---- one might be, the ducks had their final bill coming. But who listens to tapes anymore? After that I came to the view. There it was, LA in a summer night. It was epic, Like seeing LA for the first time, and feeling its old wonder at the same time. I brought a towel and sat. And sat. There was a wine party going on in the back. But I just sat. And then, 9 to 5 came on, the Dolly Parton song. She recently passed. I have heard Jolene, I have seen Dolly on the Orville, I have seen the billboards that reminded us to see the good in people as Dolly does. Her death struck me. The moment allowed me to cry just a tad. Not really because of Dolly but because the moment allowed for tears to flow when one things about stuff. Meaning that the place was honestly one where reflection became appropriate and easily achieved. The place had serenity and space. Siddharta could teach here and match his name's reputation. I continued to walk and then I saw the sight of the Griffith. One I had seen many times before. But here the Griffting changed its form. I am not sure if it was the summer night but that is what i saw--- a stronhold lt by fire on sticks that was placed on holders that lay on walls. Then I continued to walk and saw the moon over a housed area of LA. The moon was full and it was orange. The houses seemed like villages, lit by candlelight too. I thought if there was a real version of a Halloween town this would be it. I was honored to take a clip because it was a moment scored by happily-eerie moonlight. The majesty of the pictures might just be the result of my latest i-phone. But I would like to think that I witness/captured a moment of LA beauty that was ephemeral in the loveliest way!

Whether you want to lay out a blanket for a cute picnic, bring a book and unwind, or gather a few friends to just chill and vibe, this park sets the tone. It's calm, scenic, and has such a refreshing energy. Bonus: you're surrounded by so many great restaurants nearby, so you can easily turn your visit into a full day experience. A Fantastic Afternoon on Olvera Street!…read more My wife and I decided to spend the afternoon on historic Olvera Street in Los Angeles, and we're so glad we did! We originally thought about making a YouTube video for The Michael Show, but we were having way too much fun to stop and film! The restaurant, the sights, the atmosphere, and the history were absolutely fantastic. We especially loved being able to support this wonderful community and experience a place with so much character and tradition. From special events like the Blessing of the Animals to the historic surroundings, there's always something interesting happening. Parking can be a little challenging, and yes, it can be a bit pricey--but honestly, once we got there, we forgot all about it! It was a beautiful, fun-filled afternoon, and we just wanted to give a big SHOUT-OUT to Alvarado Street. If you're looking for history, atmosphere, good food, and a first-class afternoon, put this place on your list. We had a fantastic time and can't wait to come back!

I love stairs! Hearts are extra…read more We parked up on the hill to walk down to the stairs - much easier than looking for parking around Sunset. From the hilltop we walked down the stairs, grabbed a matcha at Alfred Coffee, climbed up the Music Box Steps, and explored a few more staircases around Silverlake before heading back up to the car up the Micheltorena Stairs. Such a fun way to get 7-10k steps in while getting to know the neighborhood.

I was totally drawn to the adorable heart painted stairs on Sunset and Micheltorena. The stairs…read moreinclude 177 steps with 40 of the steps painted with hearts. The history of the stairs in Silverlake is actually quite interesting. Apparently, back in the day, the stairs made it easier in the hilly section of the city to access stops along the Red Car Electric Railway. The stairs were unofficially painted in 2015 and in 2019, it became an official public arts project. We took the steps beyond the painted hearts and you're essentially just walking through a neighborhood. It's a great spot for pics and a shortcut through the neighborhood.
