Not only was everything well organized, but he did everything in his power to ensure that we were comfortable. During the visitation services, he circulated and kept an eye on the family. If anyone was standing on their own, he would go up and talk to them to ensure they were doing ok. He did a great job to keep everything on schedule without being overbearing or bossy; he gave gentle suggestions and let us handle things as we became comfortable. They even delivered the flowers after the ceremony to the various homes. I am so grateful to have had Doug and his team to help us through this time.

We have used Opsahl-Kostel twice now for our family. Our Dad passed in 2008 and didn't want any…read moreservices. Mom passed just 2 months ago and we decided to have just a small family-only gathering. We also decided to add Dad in since we never formally grieved his death. Opsahl was very kind and accommodating and Kevin made some excellent suggestions that made the service even better. The reason I gave them only 2 stars is because of what happened after the services. The first issue we had was that the songs listed in the program were wrong. We did make a change the day of the service - about 5 hours ahead of time - so we understood that maybe they didn't have time to fix that (even though it was a relatively easy fix. Clearly the programs are just printed off a regular color printer and folded - I wouldn't think that would be too much trouble). Later we received laminated copies of the programs - which looked really nice but contained the wrong information. They completely omitted one of the songs and they also had Mom's birthday wrong. My sister made them aware of these errors and said they were pretty rude to her. They did not offer to make any corrections. I thought maybe management wasn't aware of these issues so I wrote to Kevin Opsahl and told him. This was about 10 days ago and I still haven't heard anything back. I even asked them to give me the Word file (or whatever they used) and I would make to corrections myself and also get them laminated. I mean, these programs will be in our family for generations - we would like to have the information correct. Nothing but crickets. So while they are very nice people and were helpful to us prior to the service, I am very surprised at the lack of response by Opsahl-Kostel and will probably not use or recommend their services in the future.

Update: they haven't given $ back and it's been a week. Had to file a protest with my cc card. They…read morewanted me to rent after how I was treated.. It took finding someone that cared to get my $ back after computer error. I was treated like crap . WELL I HAD HOPE- I PROVIDED PROOF they took my $ and I didn't sign a contract (see pic) . Payment posted. They acknowledged it and offered a space. I told them I wanted my money back. I shouldn't have had to beg to be a customer in the first place. End of week now, and they DIDNT REPLACE $. PLEASE PLEASE do not do business with them. I'm out $40 bucks!

Their website says: "Our on-site crematory allows you to be sure your loved one is never out of our care. It matters!" When I picked up my mother's remains and death certificates, I was incredibly disappointed to read that cremation was actually performed by Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton! No one even called to let us know! THIS MATTERS!

The duck pond was well stocked with ducks BUT no Swans. Do miss the swans. Grounds are being kept up better. Roads are getting fixed. Memorial day weekend they had staff on hand to assist with finding plots and handing out flags and surveys. If it continues in this direction in a couple of years it will be a superior place again. When you visit a loved one, be sure to bring a wheelbarrow and your own lawn care items because the grounds have been in a state of disrepair for over a decade. If you have mobility issues, don't even bother trying to visit your loved ones and pay your respects because the potholes are so deep it is scary to get through them in even a car. Sadly, the only recourse is to file ADA violation complaints because other complaints are just given lip service with zero intent on fixing the many problems. This USED to be the most beautiful memorial park around. Now it is the butt of jokes and the source of endless frustration.

A couple weeks go by and I called to tell him where the remains need to be sent and how many death certificates I need. Another week goes by and I send an email in which he replied he will ask the doctor to sign off so he can order the death certificates. I don't hear anything more so I emailed again a few days later. I received no response. I called twice and was always told he was not available and never received a call back. It's been a month since his passing and I had yet to receive the death certificates so I chose to pay the money and order them on my own. I received them within 2 days. I was frustrated with the lack of integrity and follow through in a sensitive time when I need specific documents since I'm executor of the will/trust.
