I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. There was no greeting, no smile, and absolutely no sense that customers were welcome. The atmosphere felt cold, unfriendly, and almost as if our presence was an inconvenience. My husband sarcastically referred to it as the "Happy Farm" because it was anything but happy. Unfortunately, that pretty well summed up our visit. My husband is still kicking himself for not simply walking out and leaving our items on the counter. Looking back, he wishes he had trusted his instincts instead of rewarding such poor customer service with our business. After our visit, I read through other reviews and noticed that many people described similar experiences, so it doesn't appear we were alone in feeling this way. That's unfortunate because a business can have great products, but if customers don't feel welcomed or appreciated, it takes away from the entire experience. Hospitality costs nothing. A simple "hello," a smile, or a friendly attitude would make a world of difference. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Until that changes, we won't be returning, and I can't recommend this market to anyone looking for a friendly, enjoyable shopping experience. read more

Koepsel's is apparently the oldest farm stand in Door County, according to a friend of mine. It looks it; it hasn't been spruced up like some of the other farms and I actually like that. It adds to the charm for me because I remember going to farm stands with my mom and grandparents when I was growing up in Oregon before they all became mini amusement parks. The folks here aren't overly friendly, though. And by that I mean they barely acknowledge your presence. They apparently need two people to run the register (perhaps there's a method to that madness--there appears to be a single register in the entire place, so if it gets busy it probably can become a real mess). But when we were here there were maybe a half dozen people in so a hello or thanks for coming in would have been nice. It seems unlikely that everything they sell here is made by them. It's obvious on some stuff--like the Dunkin, alcohol, or noodles--but I'm not sure all the canned goods come from their own outfit, either, rather than being made by other entities and simply sold here. What might annoying me more than anything is that there's a sign on there checkstand that says that credit cards will be charged with 3% fee, but that charge isn't charged on debit cards. I used ApplePay since they take that (which was a bit of a surprise, in all honesty) and it was debit, but I wasn't asked to enter my pin so I assume I was charged the 3% additional fee anyway. First of all, the market itself is amazing! All of the products they sell are top notch!! However, the fact that nothing in there is inexpensive, the people that work behind the counter we're lazy and rude The pink haired person, person behind the counter couldn't even see it in her heart to reach for some of the products that we were purchasing that we had put on the counter, and had to ask us to move them closer to her. A huge selection of all the usual suspects, jams. sauces, pies and chatchkas. This one had some super aged cheddar and we splurged $48 for the 17 year aged. There is also a huge selection of beers and we got some local Ale from Appleton to pair with it. It's true it was not very friendly, all men at check out though the younger one seemed pleased I had bought the cheese, mind you I had no idea it was going to cost so much. Such a shame! I really liked this place. Of all of the roadside "stands", this one probably has the most selection of "Door County type products"in the whole peninsula. Lots of jam, jellies, pickled foods, fruits and vegetables etc. they even have a nice selection of local and unique wines, beers and spirts. And it's one of the few places to have a meat counter. BUT the owners are about as unfriendly as I've seen in any business... especially in a place that thrives on tourism. I've read the other reviews and those that gave this place a low review all had their stories about the owners.... here's mine! My wife and I bought a lot is stuff. Our bill was over $125. (That's a lot of pickles and sauerkraut!) when we paid, I had noticed that the young girl wrapping and boxing our products was boxing something that we didn't purchase. I stopped her and said that it wasn't mine. So she unwrapped it and set it to the side. Then I asked the owner who had checked me out, to give a refund. (They offered no receipt) He claimed he never rang it up... luckily the wrapping girl said "yes, I saw you ring it in" otherwise I don't think he would have refunded it! (Poor girl is probably unemployed now!!). The asshole never said sorry, or anything close to an apology or even an excuse ... he didn't even make eye contact. Not only that, the 2 owners who sit on there rather large asses never even made any attempt to have a conversation or be friendly with me or any other customer in the place. They just sit there looking pissed. Nice place with decent selection... just terrible customer service. I get that it's tough to find good help... especially in Door county. But if the horrible service is generated by the owners, it's a damn shame. Won't be back. read more

I like this store. It is big and they have tons to pick from. I was there when they had beverage tasting. That was fun! The prices are not super expensive but also not cheap. I agree with some other Yelp reviews in that the staff isn't all that friendly. But I like this store and I like to stop and pick up some jelly, popcorn, Wisconsin vodka, and I found the best bug bite cream. You should check it out. Super cute in the fall time. If you've travelled to Door County and you've made it to this establishment, then there is one item that you must obtain or you can consider your life only half lived. I'm going to circle back to what the item is in a second, but first a little more info on why the heck you should even consider my review before scrolling on. By way of some backstory, I visited several similar farm market operations upon arriving in Door County in the Fall-glorious second week of October 2023. And I passed this location up initially without so much as a second thought--well maybe a partial second thought as my wife, who knows well that I am a connoisseur of pies, made me aware as we passed that the road sign for Koepsel's stated "Great Pies" and I said, of course they would say that, they are trying to sell pies! Lol My history and interest in pies is well known amongst my friends and family. Wherever I happen to be in the world, if there is a famous local/regional pie flavor I'll seek it out. The more unusual the better. I will not go into all the different pies I've tried but rest assured the list is long and distinguished. Of course, some pies live up to the hype and some don't, but I can only recall one time where after I took a bite of a pie I threw the rest out. So, long story short, I like (well really love, but not in a weird way...I'm not trying to marry a pie or anything...come on, don't make this weird people lol) pie and I've had a LOT of pies in my years on this planet. All that said, you're likely thinking, "Get to the point already! What do I need to buy from Koepsel's that will let me die knowing I've lived a complete life?!" (Full Disclosure: I hold no position within any organized, or disorganized, religion, heck I don't even know that much about world religions; so if you've hit all the high points for your chosen beliefs and you consider your life complete then well done you! Lol) Okay here it is, you absolutely and without a second thought must, and I mean MUST eat a slice of Koepsel's Caramel Apple Walnut pie. This is, without reservation, the best apple pie I've ever eaten...and quite possibly the best fruit pie I've ever eaten. After having said recommended slice, or whole pie in my case...well, that's not entirely accurate, two whole pies in my case...I defy you to tell me you've experienced a better apple pie. What about the crust you say? Well, hehe, this pie has the best buttery and flakey dang crust I've ever had in a pie! Hands down! The crust practically breaks apart when your fork is within an atom of touching it...air moving too swiftly toward this crust might cause it to break apart...it's THAT FLAKEY! It's also baked to perfection...on the top AND the bottom! Whoever made this crust has obviously mastered the art to such a degree that if they were a (non-gender-specific) monk living on a mountain peak you would walk until your feet were bleeding to get any drops of wisdom they might gift on you upon reaching said mountain top. (BTW, Koepsel's is on well travelled roadway in Door County. There's no need for you to walk here. Don't bloody your feet for this. Lol) The filling? I have no idea what type(s) of apples they use in this pie, or the walnut type either for that matter. (Are there different type of walnuts? I don't know... If there are, whatever type they have chosen for this pie is the CORRECT one! Also, I don't want to know which type of apples they use. If you know, don't tell me. The apples could be from an alternate universe where everything is bliss. It wouldn't surprise me one bit.) I can just tell you that the apples are so delicately firm and lightly sweet that you will think you have received a kiss from an angel. The walnuts are the final piece of the puzzle that sets this apple pie apart from any other. They are delicate yet firm, but just to the point that you know it's not a baked slice of apple...and they have so embraced their role within the pie that once you have eaten a slice you would be sorely disappointed, and possibly outraged, if your next slice was absent this nutty goodness. Fear not, the walnuts are plentiful and are exactly as proportionate as you would expect. To finish, I do not work for, am not affiliated with, and don't know a dang soul at Koepsel's. I just know that whoever is making this pie for them is INDISPENSABLE! When I come back to Door County, I will be entering this location again and buying this pie and, after purchasing said pie, if I make it to my car without jamming it into my face and gorging on it like a ravenous rabbit eating a carrot after a week long fasting (this ravenous eating analogy is ripe for getting gross quickly, so I opted for the cute and nearly inoffensive bunny rabbit to do the lifting here), then I will consider that a personal success with exercising restraint...of which I have none when it comes to pies...I'm totally going to make a fool of myself, and likely a mess too. read more

I have been coming here for a decade and used to love this place, but after the way I was treated this last time I don't think I will be coming back. I walked in, and as soon as they saw we had a family, we got glares. I mean, we were clearly getting glares. We bought a few things, and then when we were looking at some fairly pricey decorations we were actually thinking of buying accidentally broke (and obviously paid for) one of the precariously placed jars of overpriced product. I haven't felt this judged in a long time and haven't encountered that rude attitude in awhile, so I will take my business elsewhere. Honestly... this place! I went in just to get smoked whitefish, because I knew they carried it & it's closer than Charlie's in Gills Rock. Went up the counter; the woman there said "Yeah?!!" as if I was wrecking her day! I told her want I wanted, she hauled it out, wrapped it & slapped it down. She did tell me when it was smoked & how long it would be good, but she was SO unpleasant, as was the man who cashiered. Not a word-- not hello, goodbye, thank you or even F-off! Was here the weekend after Sister Bay Fall fest. Walked in looked around found the restroom waited my turn and went in. While I was in there I hear scratching on the door. I walk out to find that the lady sitting in the deli had slapped a big sign on the doors for both restrooms that said for customer use only. I thought I was a customer? I wandered through the rest of the store, and bought my items. I was with a group of about eight people and when we got to the car three more of them mentioned how rude the lady behind the deli counter had been to them. No free samples, she would not even turn around to answer a question. Don't know if she's had enough of the season and tourists but she does not need to be in the store anymore. The people that man the counter don't even get up out of their chairs to greet you they just sit at the table and wrap your product don't say have a great day or anything or even thank you. I go by here frequently on my way to Sister Bay. Being ahead of schedule with a little time to kill I stopped in. First off let me say you dont stop in for a few minutes. There is so much to browse through. They have a massive selections of preserves. There are sample tables to entice a sale. I was impressed with the large selection of beer and wine. Something you don't usually see at a farm market. There is a refrigerated case with meats and cheeses. This is a pretty complete market, but the prices are high. Unless you're a visitor and really want to buy something from Door county, the prices are a turn off to the locals. I know of other markets in the area with more reasonable prices. Great stop in Door County! Jams and jellies and flavors of fruit butters that we've never seen before. Plenty of no sugar added products versions, too. Please beware that this place of business adds a surcharge to your bill to cover their credit card fees. This for me was an unpleasant surprise on my bill. This appears to be another way of squeezing a few extra percent out of the customer. I have shopped there many times and admittingly I have not paid much attention to my bill in general, but now that I know that a surcharge is being added for the use of a credit card, I will have to think twice whether I will purchase items from this store or recommend this store to some of my friends who visit Door County. This attractive roadside stand looks big and inviting, at least until you enter and meet the staff. Or, rather, they meet you. At a recent stop here we were met with disgusted looks, eye rolls, and head shaking...and this was all within the first three minutes of entering the store and looking around. That was from one person; another person at the register had a suspicious habit of covering the credit card machine screen with his palm while we were entering a pin, making us wonder what we were actually being charged. I have never felt so unwelcome at an establishment, especially one in a tourist area. Upon reflection we should have left our purchase right there at the counter and left the store. I will say the products are decent but the historical overall experience with the poor attitude and rudeness was so over the top on this visit I will not be back. Sadly it came from the owner and his daughter. Asked for help with purchasing expensive aged cheese in the case and it was like I was asking for the world and it was all she could do to get off of her chair. Was standing their waiting for her to get it out of the enclosed case . She priced it and set it off to the side and walked away. Confused I looked around as I wasn't certain if it was mine. grrrr. Does anyone else think it's strange for a "farm market" to have very little produce? I went to buy veggies, and left with a bag of adorable mini animal crackers and a carton of unusually tasty gummy bears. But no veggies. There was a small area with corn, a few potatoes, green beans and tomatoes. But not what I was expecting from a "farm market." The jelly was great, though. If you live in Milwaukee, Green Bay or Chicago, there is a high probability that you've been to Door County at least once in your life. Chances are you've stayed on the Bayside though. As soon as 57 merges into 42, the vast hordes of tourists often leave the quieter Lakeside to the locals. That's a shame though. Baileys Harbor and the area just north of it on Highway 57 is full of interesting shops and attractions. My fiances Aunt and Uncle own a place in Baileys Harbor, and we were lucky to spend some quality time of Eastern half of the peninsula for the Fourth of July weekend. Along 57 is a wonderful farm fresh market called Koepsel's. Inside is a wide selection of Door County and Wisconsin products. As an Illinois transplant originally from Wisconsin, it's always heartening to see the products I remembered as a kid. We enjoyed the shelves upon shelves of homemade jams and sauces from Door County fruit, with tasting stations! Cherries are king here, and the sheer variety of cherry related products is astounding. Also astounding is the selection of Wisconsin cheeses and beers. I love that I was able to pick out random beers to make my own personal six pack. All told, we left Koepsel's with a bag full of Wisconsin goodness and a warm, fuzzy feeling from our time in Eastern Door County. read more

We hit up Koepsel's every visit we make up to Door County. As others mentioned, plenty of good canned goods - pickles, maple syrup, plenty of jellies/jams. The homemade pies, donuts and rolls are excellent. Love the deli counter as well - they have some 10+ year old aged cheese that's fun to by on occasion. They also sell craft beers and you can build your own 6 packs, which is nice to do when on vacation. They also have a massive pumpkin supply in the fall - we usually grab a good amount from here. read more

Would not recommend. Owner gets upset if you use the bathroom. Then yells at you in front of other costumers for costing her money by using the bathroom. I really couldn't believe how unprofessional she was. It was embarrassing for me as a costumer to have an experience like this and really embarrassing for the establishment to allow some one to be treated like that. My wife and I have been stopping here for years hoping that the 'vibe' would change. You can literally walk in front of them and they won't get out of their chairs or even greet you or smile. I made a purchase anyway (even though we told ourselves that we shouldn't buy anything till at least we get acknowledged). We got back to the resort we were staying at and decided to try the items with a glass of wine. Wow was it ever stale. When I looked on the back of the bag there was no expiration dates or anything. They seem to have a huge stockpile of goods but buyer beware on when it was made because I am guessing a lot of it won't be fresh! read more

A bit pricy, this is the loveliest looking farm stand and has a huge selection of canned foods. I always purchase their Dill Pickles and often their sauerkraut, apple butter, strawberry-rhubarb jam, and pears. They've an appealing amount of sodas, fruit, soaps, beers, pies, cheeses and sausage. Halloween Decorations are beautiful and they've attached an antique store next door (big bureaus and chests, tables, desks, all quality items. It's been an annual stop but.... the owners are very unpleasant people - not the younger family members but the overweight adults who should be happy to welcome and serve the public they lure in who are their bread and butter!!! The lady was stocking candy boxes and the guy was operating the adding machine, gruffly telling the beautiful young woman 'don't put the soup in with the food', something she probably wasn't going to do anyhow. Sheesh. Count blessings, man. Other new farm stands are cropping up - might be time to check them out. read more
