I've actually dined here on two separate occasions. The first time I came here with a couple of people and we dined out on the sidewalk dining area. The second time today, I ordered just take out. I found myself with very little time after work, so I wanted to just buy sushi to take home. Overall I felt that the in-person experience was slightly better for a couple of reasons. The ambiance and the service. Tonight I ordered a sushi mix which included ten pieces of various types. I wish I remember the exact name of the platter. The broth is rich but not heavy, with that perfect balance between spice and creaminess from the coconut. The noodles soak it all in, and every bite feels layered without trying too hard. We came back a second time for sushi and the assorted sashimi was super fresh, the roll was great too. But the space might be my favorite part. Tiny front area that's always packed, classic counter seating, and a lively back courtyard with the prettiest lighting. The whole thing has such an authentic Japanese vibe. Every single time I come to Mexico City this place is my guilty pleasure spot for sushi. I come here just for their super fresh O'toro. It is so buttery and silky it practically melts in your mouth. Please open a location in LA! Its super hipsterish and in one of the best locations to echar chisme. Come here if you want a good sushi lunch alone or a dinner date night. read more

We stopped in for dinner & wasn't disappointed. The Miso Ramen had a lot of flavor, the noodles were fresh, and it came with 2 types of char sui. The tonkatsu curry had a thick & tender piece of fried pork swimming in a rich and delicious curry sauce and served with white rice. It's really hard to mess up such classic flavors. read more

Two stars solely because the sashimi was some of the best I've ever had but the customer service was TERRIBLE. When we waked in we loved the ambiance and were seated quickly, however when we received our order, my partner heavily disliked the pho de res. I tasted it myself and it was watered down and flavorless. We sent it back and asked for a California roll and tempura roll only to be served a Philadelphia roll more than 20 minutes later. Not only did our waiter largely avoid us, but the woman working at the door did as well. After waiting an hour for a table at Galanga and giving up, my friends and I ended up walking to Koku for dinner before it got TOO late. They'd all been there before, and it was my first time. What a cute spot! Restaurants in CDMX really know how to decorate and create the best ambiance. We sat at a high top table next to the menu in front. I started with a lychee martini (all their cocktails sounded delicious) and it was probably the best drink I've had on my entire CDMX trip. They nailed the flavors and level of sweetness! For food, I got the Unagi Don, which was colorfully presented with generous portions. That and the edamame weren't as memorable as the cocktails but still good. So many options on the menu for everyone! Whether you want noodles, rice bowls, or sushi rolls (haha that rhymes) Koku has plenty to offer. They even have an extensive list of sake. Personally the wall menu was easier for me to read than the one online. WiFi and cell service here was awful between the four of us, but you can't go wrong with what you get, so just pick something. read more

We planned to sit down for dinner but our baby was getting a bit cranky. Thankfully, our waiter was very understanding and helped us convert to a to-go order. They were fast at making our food and everything was incredibly delicious once we got home with it! It's on the pricier end for Mexico City but very reasonably priced for comparable food in the U.S. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous and in a great, walkable neighborhood! read more

Better priced with a more eclectic menu(s) than its expensive sushi neighbor up the block, this smaller venue reminds me of a coveted sushi bar I frequented in the lower east side of Manhattan ( this place would fit right in there). I go for the always inventive sushi starters and main dishes, though sometime I would like to try their curry menu which is more Thai than Japanese. Koku is always busy (a good sign), outdoor seating at curbside, and pet and infant friendly. Always crowded so expect to wait 5-10 minutes, much less wait time than the best places in New York. read more

I swear this spot gave me food poisoning I had a dragon roll, shrimp gyoza (which tasted really soggy and burnt). I think the fish wasn't the best quality. My sister had the ramen which was WAY too salty. Compared to several others in the area, this is a favorite and good value for the Delicious Food, Options, Dining Experience. Always a pleasure to dine at Koku. Here you sample several plates, consume drinks, and a desert for a fraction of the price of some we have dined at even on the NYT food list. Decided to give this place a try after reading so many positive reviews. The service was ok, until it was time to get my check & no one brought it to me, however I wasn't impressed by the teriyaki ramen bowl. I didn't like the big chunks of chicken in it and overall it didn't really have much flavor. The only things 5-star about this place are the service (ours was a delight) and their adorable outside COVID patio. The sushi is REALLY sub-par. Sake was not even that good. So delicious! I had the vegetarian curry, and it was flavorful, hot, and delicious. I got it medium spicy and it was perfect. Not too spicy, but very flavorful. Came quickly too. Ginger tea with honey too. My friend got the green curry, and it was one of the rare things he had in Mexico City that was spicy enough for him.
