One of our favorite family Christmas traditions is selecting and cutting our own tree at the Kolarik's Farm.

We always hit Cherry Republic (which is down the street) and then, while my husband let's the kids run around in the (beautifully redone) park across the street - I head to Imagine That to take it all in. The place inspires in me what my husband refers to the "Target-Thousand-Yard Stare" - which apparently the look I get on my face when I browse the aisles of Target, child free. (You know what I'm talking about, fellow moms ;). The shop is beautifully curated. You know that whoever does the buying for this place puts a tremendous amount of heart into the items they select. There are seasonal items like graduation gifts, Mother's/Father's Day presents, and even Christmas ornaments that are perfect souvenirs to remind you of beautiful Glen Arbor in all its summertime glory when you're putting up your Christmas tree in December. They have home decor, coffee table books and a nice selection of candles. They also carry beautifully designed jewelry and a stylish selection of scarves. Imagine That is a small shop, but with its charm and splendor of goods - I always manage to get lost. :).

The deer have eaten most of the veggies I planted with my starts from the students at school, as I reckoned they would. Figured flowers on the porch would be nice. I got 3 orange and pink flowers called 'persimmon,' and then, 2 pink flowers and 1 yellow flower. I put five of the flowers in two boxes and one in a hanging basket. Expensive hobby, but I enjoy watching stuff grow.

Unlike other well respected Nurserys in MI, Barker Creek only provides a 60 day warranty on their trees. You are not provided any warranty paperwork and it is not posted on their website. Others, like Harder Warner in Grand Rapids, Begicks in Bay City, Warmbiers in Auburn, provide a minimum 1 year warranty on trees. Unfortunately, we purchased a Maple tree from Barker Creek ($395+) in Oct 2024 and purchased planting supplies (we were in the area), the tree survived the winter but in June began to die. We watered and fertilized but no luck. Gordon, an owner, informed me that there is no warranty, but would be willing to meet with me to find a different tree. He may offer something to offset, but won't commit. Well, my drive time is 1.5 hrs and a 'no warranty' tree is not worth spending an additional $400. Sorry, you have lost my business. I will travel to a reputable nursery. Buyer Beware.

He listened to what we were looking for (10'-ish) and showed us a tree that hadn't even made it to their store lot yet. He trimmed the bottom for us and loaded it into our truck. Talk about full service! We've had Fraser Firs before, but this tree is absolutely gorgeous! We're excited to support local farmers, and we love how convenient this place is to our home. We will be repeat customers for years to come.

Their prices are $10 per foot but what they didn't tell us was that anything larger than 10 ft is $20 a foot. That's not $20 once you reach 10 ft but $20 a foot for the entire tree. How does that make sense? When we selected our tree from the orchard, no one was there to help guide us on the size of the tree nor was the tree marked at all. We were told we had to tag it then return to the office and someone would cut it and bring it back. Once they did, they measured it and said it was 10 feet and that we needed to pay $20 per foot. And this is the stick that took it to 10 feet that we cut off to fit our topper. If it was 9 1/2 ft we would've paid $95 but because of this we had to pay 200. When we questioned them, they weren't willing to offer any compensation and just said, well it's a nice tree. Merry Christmas. We could have walked away and not purchased it but we felt bad now that it was cut and thought it was the right thing to do by taking it. I tried to message the company on Facebook and they blocked me. Please don't support a company that puts greed before good customer service.
