The sausages, beer and other traditional fare are very tasty (the spinach dumplings especially so), and the outdoor seating had an incredible view of the alps and the valley below. The hike isn't particularly strenuous (and it's mostly shaded by surrounding trees), but those visiting the area from sea level might feel the altitude - you're hiking from 2000 ft at the base to 3000 ft at the top. It's an unpaved path, and though you could walk it in sneakers, light hiking shoes will make your ascent and descent more comfortable. A wonderful place to take a leisurely walk, eat some tasty Bavarian food and enjoy a wondrous view.

Let me preface this review by stating that I am not the biggest fan of Bavarian food, but felt…read moreobligated to have at least one traditional local meal while traveling through Bavaria. We had the beer-fried cheese as an appetizer; it was a good comfort food. I had the veal schnitzel which came with a cornmeal coating. I am not sure the cornmeal coating worked as it was more crunchy than crispy (1 star off), but the veal was tender and seasoned well. My husband got the bratwurst with sauerkraut. The ground meat to make bratwurst in Bavaria is more homogeneous and smooth than that in the U.S.; I liked the texture and flavor. I left still feeling the same about Bavarian food unfortunately, but this place gave me a bit more optimism.

The waitstaff is really friendly and accommodating to foreigners who don't speak German. They have an English menu too which is great. Everything my party ordered was amazing! There was no food left on the table once we were through. I ordered the roasted salmon and it was amazing. So flavorful and fresh tasting. My husband ordered the salmon pasta and that was really delicious as well. They have plenty of seating indoors and even have a kids seat. I highly recommend if you're in the area. I'll definitely be returning again if I'm ever in town.

We stayed here on the recommendation of a business partner and were extremely happy with our visit…read more The first evening we arrived late and the business held the kitchen open as we were the last to arrive for dinner. The meals here were excellent. Breakfast was wonderful, such variety of fresh delicious foods! Our room was comfortable ( except it was unusually hot outside so it was pretty warm inside. This is a European problem -- with very old historical buildings. Next time I'll bring a little fan ). The pool, spa area was lovely. We were there at the time of a wine festival outside which became very loud and boisterous in the street, so it was noisy, but that was unusual. A great location for walking around the town. Such a great town, I could live there! Very convenient driving to castles, and nature parks, which was a bonus since we were there on business. I hope I can return some day!

Unfortunately, my expectation for a great Bavarian meal in this quaint town of Partenkirchen ended up with a somewhat mediocre food (IMHO), but they were with very generous serving portions (photos). My roasted pork needed more flavoring...tasty crust was so well-done that it was very hard to cut or chew. Bread dumpling was cold and lacked flavoring, and potato dumpling was just OK. Fortunately, red cabbage with apples was very tasty. Salad with roasted chicken breast was just that. Vegetables were not pickled like most of Bavarian vegetable salad is usually consisting of. Chicken lacked flavoring and tasted very plain. I think no one can accuse of the food being too salty or over-flavored here. To make the matter worse, garlic toasts were getting soggy--I think they should serve them on a separate plate to keep them dry and crunchy, but that's just me. This old-fashioned/traditional gasthof perhaps is needing some updating. In a small dining room we ate, some of the lamp shades were cracked. I can deal with a dim room, but it didn't give out any pleasant ambience here. Restaurant was not crowded at all on Saturday afternoon (perhaps a little past normal lunch hours)--a tell-tail sign of this place being not too popular. On the positive side, we had the dining room all to ourselves. Fortunately service was decent--our server came back to check on us a couple of times. Credit cards are accepted, but they want tip in cash. One of the best-preserved painted buildings in Tyrolean tradition in Partenkirchen. It's very beautiful and gorgeous from outside.
