Having read all the good reviews we booked fairly early (7pm) on as Saturday night. We were the…read morefirst customers, so expected a fast and efficient service. The welcome was certainly friendly and efficient and we were quickly seated in the largest dining room with roof lights, interesting wall paintings and pictures. The menu (which has changed from the one on the web site) is quite extensive. We chose a mixed starter for two (£11.95), a large plate of fried onions and bell peppers (capsicum) with two each of: Onion Bhajee, chicken on the bone, chicken and lamb tikka, Sheek kebab. This was pretty good, but on the whole rather greasy especially the onions and peppers and the Onion Bhajee, and some of the elements too mildly spiced. We followed this by two lamb curries (around £9.00 each), one medium spiced and one Madras hot, with Garlic Naan Bread (£2.45) and Bombay Alloo potato side dish (£3.45). Unfortunately the medium dish was much too cool so we had to send it back to be re-heated, this proved to be difficult as the restaurant had started to become busier and the service seemed to be struggling. Overall the food was pretty good, but not special. My Madras hot dish was quite spicy, but temperatures always vary as you travel across the country. On our single experience I'd rate both the service and food as variable between 2 and 4 stars. Given everybody else's comments, we'll probably have to give it another go sometime and hope for the best. The pricing would be pretty good, if the food and service were up to scratch. The location is in the middle of town with no private car park, but there is a reasonable amount of parking on a side road almost opposite.

Went to the Mysore when a friend was visiting England and wanted to go for a curry. There was a…read morelarge party (15) and they took us with no booking, that has got to be a plus! The food was really nice and more traditional than a normal curry house. As other curry houses have there was lots of choice for veggies. Mmmm making me feel hungry thinking about it. the restaurant is quite small and they were not too keen on the buggy being up in there but the baby of the party was asleep in it so folding it was not an option. The service was good and the food was a decent price. I would go again, as the food was so delicious. Parking is limited if you want to park close by and there is one disabled space, although there is a car park across the road a short walk away.

The Indian Cottage is the "go-to" place for my parents and family when we are getting a meal in…read moreNewport. We have celebrated forthcoming weddings, birthdays and numerous big occasions with a number of naan's and tons of tikka. Located at the top end of Newport Pagnell High Street, it's just a short walk from anywhere in the Central town area. It's got a smart white exterior and the building is obviously well cared for by it's owners. If you don't fancy popping in, they do offer orders for collection or delivery too. I believe they offer a discount for collection (if you can be bothered to go to the venue and pick up your order). If you do decide to eat in, you won't be disappointed. As you walk in you will receive a warm and friendly welcome from the staff in the venue. We haven't ever had a problem with reservation or booking and they seem to know most of their regular customers on a first name basis. The interior is crisp, clean and bright. The menu selection is massive (over 8 - 10 pages of Indian yumminess) and they offer banquet menus and a buffet on certain days. The spice indicator is pretty reliable as well, so you can pick a dish to fit your preferred heat levels without worrying. I have tried numerous different dishes at this venue but most recently had the "chef's special" mixed tandoori. The plate was overloaded with different kinds of meat and came with an order of "special bread" (some kind of fried naan type thing). As a top tip, you don't need to order naan with this dish - the bread it comes with is enough! The vegetable side orders are always really tasty too - I personally recommended the Bhindi Bhagee, but I am a huge Okra fan. On our last visit (a group of 6 adults) we ordered 6x mains (ranging from seafood to lamb), 3x rice dishes, 3x naan breads, 3x vegetable side dishes and poppadoms to start. We had a 15% discount (as one of our number became a "loyalty member" for free on the night) and the bill came to £20 per person including a bottle of wine and several beers. For the price, the friendly service (even the owner came over to say hello) and the quality of the food; I would certainly recommend a visit to the Indian Cottage.

The food was ordinary. Not excellent, not horrible. We took…read moretwo mains and two starters lamb based, and the meat was not tender at all. Sauces was ok for the main. Saag paneer is something we don't let miss on our indian menu, and this was very good. We have also enjoyed a similar dish, this time peas based (can't remember the name). Price wise the restaurant seems ok, but unfortunately our digestion was not. At the time I'm writing this review on Monday morning I'm still attempting to complete it. Had no breakfast to compensate the burning that both my wife and I got. I can only suspect the problem was with the mains, as our daughter that eat only the vegetable dishes is fine. Re the environment, the restaurant is very old. Poor decor in all honesty. I appreciated the tablecloth and the napkins on the table though. They sought of very high quality. But the floor ultimately requires to be cleaned. Staff is welcoming and friendly.
