The Kona Community Aquatic Center is a great facility located in central Kailua-Kona, just behind Target. They have a beautiful outdoor pool and access to the pool is free. If you live here on the island or if you are just visiting I'd highly recommend a stop at the pool to get some lap swimming in. The pool will certainly meet your needs weather you are an occasional swimmer to an Ironman athlete. There are even programs for keiki, so there is something for everyone at the Kona Community Aquatic Center. Please not that they are still operating under a covid safety protocol, so please call ahead to confirm hours. Lanes are available on the hour for periods of 45 minutes and you need to be there 10 - 15 minutes in advance to register.

Fabulous and FREE!!!! I could not believe it when I came to swim laps and found a beautiful community pool that charged nothing at all! Every city and town should have something like this. I appreciated the clearly designated lap lanes and the cleanliness of the pool was excellent. Friendly lifeguards keep a good eye on things. Lots of parking. Solar heated warm showers. Senior swimming is scheduled in the mornings when kiddies are in school. When Ironman comes to town, it is crazy busy here with the triathlon athletes preparing for the big event. 5 YELP STARS for the awesome Kona Community Aquatic Center Pool.

Main pool, kids pool, deck n changing rooms.

Free admission, friendly staff, generous hours n reasonable class fees. What's not to like? Pool's about 4 feet deep w short-course lanes (width of pool) readily available. Open weekdays 7-7-ish. Weekends too, although not sure about hours. Only drawbacks? Mid-day closure 2-3pm-ish. Solar-heated hot water in showers that can get used up when pool's crowded. But the price is so right n people are friendly! ALOHA!

Lots of lanes to swim in, including an easy swimmer's pool, a kiddie pool with a fountain, and an actual lap swim pool. Numerous pace clocks around the deck for swimming sets and well staffed. To top it all off, free swim is free! :)

Took this shot at the 2016 May swim meet of Cameron Wells who made state times.

This gym is centrally located in Kona. I wish I had more good things to say but the amenities and…read morebuilding leave a lot to be desired. The locker rooms and bathrooms are really dirty and often emit a really unpleasant odor. In the pictures you can see there is possibly mold growing or something else making the walls fall apart. Come on, the Planet Fitness down the road is in better condition. My biggest complaint is there aren't any available lockers!!! I don't understand why this gym lets people keep lockers overnight. No other gym I've been to allows this. This means that there's no room to keep your valuables when working out or showering. You will frequently see people lugging their gym bags all over the workout area because they don't have a locker to put their things in. It's really frustrating. My hope is that the owners change this policy to one where lockers are day use only, which is standard among every other gym I've been to on the mainland and in Hawaii. Additionally, there is a very limited offering of workout equipment, most of which is for weight training and not cardio. There are about 5 treadmills and 4 ellipticals, one of which is broken. The sauna breaks frequently too and last year the pool was drained for months on end. In summary, this gym is unclean and isn't big enough for the needs of the community. For a membership that costs about 100 dollars a month, I would expect a much better quality experience. Front desk employees are pleasant. Parking during mid day frequently is full.

Real phone number for gym is 808-936-1069. Yelp shows an outdated phone number…read more Great gym. Very cool staff. Plenty of equipment.

We found out about this oceanside swimming pool (250 feet long)from the Big Island Revealed app…read more It's five feet deep in some spots. Bring your water shoes and snorkel gear! It's 2.7 miles north of the corner from Highway 132 and 137 (so, go North on Government Beach Road). This is a paved road. Around 2.7 miles, you'll come across a small hill, on the downside of the hill, you'll see a dirt road on your right through a hau bush (twisted looking trees that are entwined). If you hit Pakaka Road, you went too far. There is no parking lot. There is a small one-spot parking space that you can back into (perpendicular to the road). There are two roadside beams indicating this spot. You can also park along the road. From Government Beach Road, on the dirt road, it's 1500 feet to the shoreline. The pool is 100 yards to the left once you hit the shoreline. I do not recommend driving down the path to the shoreline because the branches are low and it's super muddy. It's an easy walk. Towards the shoreline, you'll see an abandoned turquoise minivan. It's obvious that someone was squatting in the van at some point. The engine has been torn out, windows broken, carry-out boxes everywhere, and the rainforest has started to entwine itself with the car. On the coast, there were more signs of squatters. The pool was beautiful. We went during high tide and the pools were super full and the waves were crashing hard against the rocks. The app said we should go during low tide...whoops. We didn't run into a single person. It was super secluded and beautiful. Although the walk was really neat through the hau bush and having an oceanside swimming pool to ourselves was cool...I would not do this again. Honestly, I didn't feel safe. We didn't see any squatters but the signs made me uneasy. There is no cellphone signal and your completely isolated. I recommend this for large groups of people only.
