Es war eines der großen Bauvorhaben in der oberen Füßgängerzone. Im August 1977 wurden die beiden Anwesen Beck (ehemals Cafe Beck) und Schäfer abgerissen. Die Lücke zwischen Fußgängerzone und dem Schlossplatz wurde mit einem Neubau geschlossen. Nach nur 15-monatiger Bauzeit stand das neue Gebäude. Besonderen Wert war auf ein Altstadt gerechtes äußeres Erscheinungsbild gelegt worden. Die Dachlandschaft nahm die Umgebungs-bebauung auf und auch zur Fußgängerzone hin wurde Wert auf eine filigrane Fassade gelegt. Am 3.Januar 1979 war es dann soweit: Das neue Schloßcafe wurde eingeweiht. Inhaber war Klaus Fritz,der das neue Cafe mit unermüdlichem Fleiß zunächst bis Dezember 1983 alleine führte.Zum 1. Januar 1984 wurde eine GmbH gegründet.

These cupcakes are "American-style" with gobs of yummy buttercream icing. They look almost too good to eat, and they taste as good as they look. I especially like that you can buy a mini version of their cupcakes so you can avoid the guilt that comes with the regular size. They're open during the Saturday farmers market which is a great time to go.

This is off because most of the websites recommending this cafe said they do take away. In any case since we couldn't get a table and they wouldn't let us get take away we left. Very disappointing experience. As an aside, while I'm sure the pastries and coffee on offer are fine, there any plenty of cafes closer to the main square. I don't know that I'd recommend making the trek to this cafe; especially if you are in a hurry or want take away.
